  1. Evan I feel your pain. At least you found it before it became a problem CYA Andy
  2. I got a ke30 rego'd a few months back, and They insisted on the 5th belt, I got sick of arguing with them about as once again the compliance plate said 4 seater, so I just chucked on in from a commodore.
  3. Thanks heaps all Got it sused now Andy
  4. I'm shelling out a speedway sedan. It's a KE30 auto, I will be converting to manual. Will be having 3k engine with 3k four speed. Has anyone does this conversion and what issues can I expect ? A few questions Is the pedal box the same or do I need to source manual pedal box or does the clutch pedal bolt in ? Is the transmission tunnel the same ? Do I need to source a manual crossmember ? Any problems putting the clutch cable retainer on the firewall ? Thanks Andy
  5. Depends on if the brakers were made in japan or aussie. I like the smaller Jap brakes as there a bit lighter and as we change diffs every few weeks or so, Its easy to change the whole housing as the diff is now lighter and, as the brakes are smaller its easyer to get out. We have one diff with the big brakes and seems to be no differance between the two types its just more difficult to get the diff out. There are also two types of diffs, the Jap one has the removable centre ( Banjo style ) and the Aussie borg warrner has the non removalable centre ( salsbury type ) ( well sort of non removalable you can change it if you know what your doing), There are a few axle variants as well, We only run the salsbury type, but one of our salsbury has big axles and a bigger spline to the rest. I have a few spare jap diffs but as we havn't blown up a salibury yet so havn't used them. Generally the jap diff will have the jap brakes but not always the case. The brakes are interchangable between the two diff types, its just a bugger the the axles out. Ratios are normally 4:11 but there are a few 4:22 and 4:33 and the odd 3:89 getting around, There should be a tag on the diff hat stating the ratio. Or if the tag is missing go old skool and start spinning and counting. Cheers Andy
  6. Had a look in the toyota 3k and 4k service spec's same beast. But different governor and vac advance curves for nippon denso. Dosn't cover the bosch dissy but guess would be the same, I like the Bosch dissy dosn't matter 3k or 4k we get them recuved anyway. Holden 186/308 points drop straight in if you can get then XU1 have a higher spring tension better at big revs. If you want to get real techo I think the bosch had a different dissy cap between 3k and 4k but there interchangable. I always go for the 4k cap and rotor if I can get it as the spacing between the HT leads is greater. Andy
  7. I'll add my 2 bob's worth. Mineral oil on startup. We change the oil and filter after cam run in, then every meeting. There's nothing better than fresh oil to make an engine last. Cam run in 20 minutes at 2200. If you want to synthetic oil, wait till the ring bed in, but if the engine has seen a few km's stay with Mineral or your seals will start to leak. Bedding the rings in, avoid high RPM and no load. We just go out and start racing it. Andy
  8. We weighed in our KE30 less driver at 850 kg. Andy
  9. Aggree I was concerned about scrub radius and bump steer as not only is the strut moved out it is also moved forward. I tested the plate a few meetings back and found no negitive effects, steering does pull left a bit but as we spend more time turning left than going straight causes no problems. Wholes are drilled out larger on the part that mounts to steering arm so uses factory spigots, the spigots do have a habit of popping out, this can effect toe as the plate is then free to move around so a extra spigot on top fixes that up. Cheers Andy
  10. Lachie GMP racing sell tire softner, The Super Sedan blokes use a 50/50 mix of WD40 and water then glad wrap them for a few days. I tried the 50/50 mix on some old Kart tyres I had in the shed that had gone hard, I'll be testing them at nyora this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes. Hope to CYA at Alex. Andy
  11. Camber and Caster correction is legal and as were not changing or modifying any stock compenets we therefore fall into the rules. We do however need to check track as this little work around can push us past our track limit of 1345mm, we are carefull what mags we run when we have the plate in. Also the other good this is toe remains the same. Cheers Andy
  12. Blokes Here's how we do it speedway style. Instead of bringing the top of the towers in, we bring to strut bottoms out. Sorry about all the mud. Works a treat. Andy
  13. All The info on speedway. Class is 1200 junior sedans. Car is basicly stock, with a lumpy cam and locked diff. Roll cage is very serious and strong. The car gets checked prior to each meeting and a full going over once a year Age is 10 to 16 years. No passangers allowed Its controlled by NSAR. License (NSAR), Rego (ASCF) cost about $200 per year Race suit and gloves boots undie's ect ect about $1000. You and pick up a runner for about $3000, for something really good about $6000. Regs can be found at http://www.speedwaysedans.com/page.asp?Pag...0Specifications Now Camber woes. Stock setup will give you mega understeer. Where running a camber plate between the strut and the ball joint, works a treat but need to beware of not excedding track limit of 1345mm, we control under/over steer buy changing stagger and spacer on right rear, more stagger / spacer more oversteer. I'll put a pick up of the plate and you will see what is required. CYA Andy
  14. bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. All Trying to track a 3.89 diff for a KE30, All I seem to find if 4:11 and 4:33. Was this ratio a option for the KE30 / 55 ? or should I be looking to swap the centre with a KE70 ? Thanks Andy
  16. All Thought Id send this to the rollaclub brains trust! Two Questions / Problems We attemped to do a gearbox swap on a mates ke30, as the KE20 2nd gear ratio looks like is about 2 to 1, Where as the stock KE30 gearbox is about 2.25 to 1. We came up on a few problems, being the gearbox output spline is different and one of the bolt postions on the bell housing is different. The KE 20 box has a sticker on the top saying KE20 and has studs in the bottom plate where as KE30 box has bolts. Whats the best way forward on the swap ? Guessing get a KE20 tail shaft and drill the bellhousing ? I have a gearbox simlar to the KE20 one with studs in the bottom and a 2 to 1 2nd gear ratio but it has a sticker on the top saying KE30. The Output spline looks like a stock KE30 spline and the bellhousing also looks 3K. ( But I have not checked as have no spare tail shaft or 3k laying around) Is this box OK for a direct swap in KE 30 with 3K Thanks Andy
  17. Opp's bugger sorry! We burnout 3k starters every 12 months or so. Keep your old one, pull it apart and fix it. Once your done one there all much the same. Catch ya Andy
  18. Bet ya its the brushes, The solder joints have a habit of melting, If you go down to your local auto elec he can sell you some new ones for about 15 bucks, or take the starter there and you will pay over 200, Just be sure if the starter type as could be a bosh or nippion, the nippons are shorter and easy to get out.
  19. Crow cams don't stock any 4k billets but that can regrind a cam for you.
  20. Sounds like the anti deiseling solanoid on the side of the carby. Check your getting 12 v to it when the ignition is turned on and it clicks. Cheers Andy
  21. There a few types but all fit. I'd go for a denso as the bosch is bigger and a real bitch to get in or out. Beware we have the solder on the brushes melt when we run at full revs for to long, thats why I like the desno 5 minutes and its out. Andy
  22. Could be the hot Idle compersator thing, Leaning the mix out. Andy
  23. Mate If you live in Melb I'll lock it for free, We do it all the time for speedway. Cheers Andy
  24. Hi Has anybody installed a 24 mm venturi insert in to the primary of a Ke30 carby ? How did you remove and reinstall the accelerator pump discharge nozzle ? Was there much performance gain ? and is 24mm the largest venturi insert I can get ? Cheers Andy
