  1. Philbey Guess its just a process of evolution. Pitty a excel cannot match a KE30 with locked diff in the dirt when it comes to the fun factor. I guess we need to start driving Excels backwards. Cheers Andy
  2. Hey Guess what she carn't count. 200,000 cars off the road at 2,000 a pop cost = 400,000,000. But there only putting in 396,000,000. Cheers Andy
  3. I'm guessing it's the housing the thermostat is in ? For 3k its thread is M16 pitch is 1.5mm I Think 4k would be the same. If youre unsure just measure the dia of the hole, If its 16mm or thereabout you should be ok. Cheers Andy
  4. Not good for the speedway blokes, Our KE30 bits and shells will be harder to get and hence more expensive, Also less KE30 on the road less aftermarket stuff, This will effect open wheel classes like minisprint that run 1200 to 1600 Toyota / Datsun engines ?, Could even impact formula ford ?, But guess at the end of the day just anothor rule change, we will end up racing newer front wheel drives and the like, Will this match a field of KE30's and Sunny's ?? don't think so. But hey what happens to the price of my daily driver (KE30) once the fund stops ? cause I'm not selling
  5. We don't run a spring on the secondarys on our vac sec, But the accelerator pump has a few mods to squirt more fuel so it may be compensating for the sec opening early. The other factor is my 11 year old races the car and he may not know what a bad carbys with a flat spot is like. He does say the mech sec are better. I haven't run this carby on the daily driver, If you want I can chuck it on and give you a real report. For the street I like altezzaclub idear of a lighter spring, This may do the trick for you. Note The 4k-c came out with mech sec and the 4k-j had the vacuum sec, I think the 4k-c had the throttle postioner diaphragm and 21mm pri and 25mm sec, The vacuum sec had bigger sec again about 26mm???. The 4kc carbys are hard to get, The basic body is much the same as the 3k, just a few extra holes to plug up, and remove that hot idle thingey it will give you trouble Here's a pix of our setup on the vac sec carby. Beware we don't run the standard throtle return spring as that got removed along with all the choke stuff ages ago Cheers Andy
  6. Not all 4k secondarys are Vac operated some have Mech sec with the flapper valve
  7. Agree looks tricky. wouldn't be to fussed with smoke as very lean or no spark could look the same. Whats the spark like ? when you crank over. Andy
  8. Is it mech or vac secondarys ? If Mech Sounds like the flapper may be jammed open, or the jet blocked. As both jets are in the bottom of the float chamber don't think it is float level. The secondary jet is the one that screws in vertical and should be a 144 or 141 or 126 for 3k not sure about 4k could be 144 or 156 ?? Note also pri jet is yellow in colour and the sec jet is silver. You should be able to rev the engine with the air cleaner off and slowly open the secondry butterfy early, Hard to explane open pri with thumb and sec with index finger and fuel should come out of both verturi boosters. Don't discount the fuel filter could be that as well. Cheers Andy
  9. Be guided by your Cam Grinder, If you were in Melbourne I'd say give Wade Cams or Clive Cams a call. In the past we have used imported cams like Sigerson Cams and Crane Cams (in Holden V8's) and while not wanting to bag there product we havn't looked back since we moved to the local product. Cheers Andy
  10. I had considered welding some mounts inside the sump and bolting some supercheep grill mesh to it. I would need to put the oil pick up through the mesh prior to to bolting the mesh in, and then fiddle about a bit to get the sump on. Does anyone have a photo and measurements of a 4age windage tray ???? Also have just flug that mob in the US an email I'll get size of the Moroso windage tray to see if it fits. keep you posted Thanks heaps so far. Andy

  15. Evan I have a spare oil pump in the shed, if you want it. Was running good just prior to taking the top off number 4 piston Cheers Andy
  16. I've got some spare 3k solid lifters they will need refacing, But you can have them if you want. CYA Andy
  17. Down and dusted I think 4k rebadged for what ever reason to 3k. For the record The engine number. The crank The deck high note distance between water pump bolts and block face. For good measure here's what a 3k should look like. Cheers Andy
  18. I suspect you may be correct, the problem is in our class of racing they measure the stroke when the engine has its head off, you then put the head on they install a seal, if the seal is broken you cannot race. Bugger.
  19. I have a 3k engine stamped 3k, however once the sump is remove the crank has 4k stamped on it. I checked the deck and yep the deck is 10mm higher than a 3k, The stroke is 73mm. Are there any other marks I can look for ???? Cheers Andy
  20. My guess is the short ones came off a head with the old style valve retainers, but I'm not sure. Andy
  21. Found what I think are 4k push rods in a 3k engine of unknown history. this prompted me to pull apart a few other 3k's I have laying around, Now I'm confused. Push Rod 1 Length end to end 186mm and from Lifter to Rocker 182mm. ( suspect 4k) Push Rod 2 Length end to end 176mm and from Lifter to Rocker 172mm. 3k Push Rod 3 Length end to end 175mm and from Lifter to Rocker 172mm. 3k Push Rod 4 Length end to end 172mm and from Lifter to Rocker 169mm. ( suspect early 3k bigport ???? ) Note Also different cups Cheers Andy
  22. My son says one of the Kids at schools old man was offered 5,000 from top gear for his overrated Ke55 so they could trash it, He told them to jam it.
  23. Evan If we race fender bender I'll give a call. 5 gears in reverse would be nice LOL CYA Andy
  24. Has anyone setup a windage tray on a 3k ? Rules state I'm allowed to modify the sump as long as it looks standard on the outside. Any advise and a few pix on how other have done this would nice. Thanks Andy
