Just use a 4k head from a flat top motor.... unless you have the dished 5k bottom end in which case you should by shallow dish pistons from acl. You could then use a 4k head and have a relatively good CR. I get around 135psi or 9.1:1CR. You may then also have to source diffference pushrods becuase there is a rough 6mm difference between deep and shallow dished heads.... depends what you have currently and I don't know what you have...

Looks like the head is cracked around the valves and ity appears to have been welded around the spark plug hole. Looks uck-fayed to me....

You could blow a 4a-c. And you could blow another man. It's the same thing... I'm using an Exedy Sports Tuff. It has an organic clutch plate with a heavier than standard pressure plate. Google exedy. They have a variety for every application.... except 4a-c :rolls: (which is very nearly the same application a the 4age...)

Because they are hard f@$kers to come by. I still have the original but the back is bent inwards and its shit. If you have them handy feel free to mail me one!

I say yes.... :y: :y: :y:

Lifter pre-load in hydraulic lifter pushrod motors becomes an issue when the head thickness is changed (*shaving) or the cam profile is modified. Otherwise tensions are as standard. And for the above I think 40 pounds on the torque wrench would be plenty.....

OK. f@$ked around and f@$ked around until everything was sore or spent. No progress. Narrowed it down and confirmed #3 & 4 cylinders are misfiring. Swapped lead and plugs and dignity. Nothing changed. When I hold the leads close but not on the plugs it fires up good enough to set the idle and timing. Otherwise its bullshart. The distributor is going to the auto electricians. If that doesn't fix it... Thors hammer will!!!

Figured its time to update. Carby's are good. The dude who fixed them is a true artist and unwittingly turned out to be an aquaintance of my dad. It's a small world. The mains have been brought down from a 135 to 115 just to get it drivable. Dyno will sort the rest out. Lots fiddling been going on over the last month or so. Not a great deal of progress. Having ignition issues which has taken some time to narrow down to the electronic distributor. I still have an issue with the indicator regulator and tail lights. Otherwise just killing time and saving a dollar. I have the Cheviot mesh on for a short while. Just because they've got good tread. The superlites will be back on once they get a re-dress and some decent rubber. Otherwise here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure.

Yeah I may have to ditch the 16$ Bosch leads....

Ignition fuse. btw- Is the washer bottle pump the first thinkg you check everytime it doesn't start? :laff:

But don't wind them in to far or you'll blow the seal in the back of the steering box when you turn it to lock.

ok. I'll try hook it up that way. Hopefully I haven't already fried the dizzy. I haven't swapped the single carb back over yet. I was hoping to nut this out with out it. If I can't, i'll pull the head off and check the pistons and valves.
-
I'll check all the earths. I swapped leads around a couple of times. I might just get some better quality leads and ditch the bosch one. All the plugs are firing. The leads are just standard bosch items. I'm running the twin solex's. Initially running far to rich it would turn the garage into a fuel bomb after 2 minutes of idle. we rejetted the mains from 135's to 115's. Could I possibly have wired the distributor incorrectly? There are 2 wires on the dizzy, black and black & orange. I hooked up the original dizzy wire from the lume to the black and ran a line from the black and yellow to the positide of coil. I can't even get it to fart if I hook it up any other way...

Compression is pretty whacked. Between 125psi and 135psi on cylinders 1,3 & 4 but down at 110psi on number 2. I've cranked the engine over repeatedly by hand when doing the timing. All the rocker gear appears to be functioning. What gets me is the part where if you remove the number 2 and 3 leads while its running and hold them close enough to the spark plugs for it to arc across they start firing properly. This is what leads me to believe its an ignition issue.

New coil and new leads and i've used to difference electonic distributors with the same result.

I'm using a nippon-denso electronic distributor with internal ignitor and GT40 coil on my 5k and it seems to be running on 2 cylinders. When you pull the plugs lead off the miss-firing cylinder hold it close enough for the spark to jump from lead to plug that cylinder fires up again. The problem began when I removed the dummy carby and manifold I was using for the twin solex's. Wierd shit. The timing is correct. It's been checked more times than i've had wet dreams. I have traced the problem down to the distributor. I've swapped leads, coils, plugs and swapped out the distributor for another and the problem persists. I think I may need to regraph the distributor due to the cam before I ever get it running on all four. Does anybody know what other issues would cause the engine to run on 2 cylinders? I also found this on my search for the answers. Looks interesting though probably been seen here before. A electronic replacement for breaker points in distributors Hot Spark

The will need to be pulled down to bare parts, the cast alloy can be dipped as can the brass. You will then need to rebuild them with new kits. Also a good time to get close jetting. This website is the one for you....RM Carburetors, solely solex/mikuni.

Good work man. Looks overrated.

if you've got short stroke inserts you might need spring compressors.... their about 30 doi at ubercheap autos.

mmmm, i say gearbox....

It should say "Drive it till the cops take it off me."

Whats The Most You'Ve Ever Seen A K-Series Pull?

Big controlled compression plus high flow equals high end power!..... You'll probably kick the 150kw mark, making my previous statement concievable. -
I think they may be talking about the chrome trims along the weather channel. (ie. the roof). I wAsn't overly keen on getting them off the 55.
