  1. Pretty sure the dual outlet exaust manifolds only came out on ke70's. The big ported manifolds came on some 3k ke20's. Its still unknown why you can get a big port head with single carb, but it's not a "big port" as such. I have one of those manifolds and it is an original casting.

Took this thing for its maiden voyage yesterday. It's pretty fast. At first estimates I'm guessing around 25-30km/h on a 100m low to mid gradient hill. It weighs 23kg. The steering is super sensitive. Tyre pressure set around 45psi. At the moment the front axle is routed in behind the steering king pin. I'm going to spin the whole around axle around so it's forward of the king pin and hopefully it's a little more controllable. The brake works well with dual rear callipers. I totally forgot what driving one of the things at speed was like. Fast & Scary.
  3. I had the cam bearings changed at the local engine shop. I picked the block up and there was a score mark in the first bearing. It was likely honed because it was smooth. I was told it wouldn't be a problem. It's been 2 years. Hasn't been a problem.

Is that the best & easiest engine conversion under 100$? Being a 12th year apprentice I'm on a tight budget!

    Wow!
  7. I swapped over to a 4k points dizzy from the 5k electric. Dialed it in to 48 degrees dwell and 8 degrees advance. The 4k has a way better ignition curve than the electric one. So much more mid range power. Usual downside, harder cold starting & breaker points. But I don't mind points as I rarely rev out past 5000rpm so welding and float issues won't be a problem.
  8. Tighten them in a little to crack the seal the undo them. A breaker bar is helpful or a steel pipe over the end of you socket wrench.
  9. So I swapped over to the ke70 4 speed last weekend and it's a great little gearbox. Problem is its a 100km round trip to work each day and last week saw a considerable increase in fuel consumption for obvious reasons. I have now enlisted a wonderful piece of old tech to help me control my heavy foot. The econometer.
  10. Wow. That primary is really quite small.
  11. On my 5k it's 50/55 idle, 145/150 mains & 165/160 airs. I'd say you should be 50/50 idle, 135/145main & 150/160 airs. You need to buy an assortment of main and air jets and start playing.
  12. Idle 50 pri, 55 sec. Straight up. Between 1 & 2 turns on the mixture is primo. You really need to be doing plug dumps at certain rpm's. Drive it slowly on the pedal when it starts to cut or bog down, clutch in & kill the engine. Check the spark plug. White is lean, black is rich. My money is on rich idle & progressive, lean main.
  13. 18mm & 22mm in the twin carb 21mm & 24mm in the single carb.
  14. Are you able to open the 5k carb and tell me what jet sizes it contains?
  15. Here's some other useful info. Ke20 3k carbs came out with a 21mm primary Venturi as opposed to the 19mm in the later 3k and 4k units. The Venturi, if your trick enough is interchangeable.
  16. That would be great. Ive been mucking around with these stock carbs on my 5k. The best jetting I've got so far on the 4k unit is with 47 idle, 108/153 mains and a 90 power jet. It goes well under what but it's real lean at idle and low speed driving. I'm think of going up to around 55 idle and 125 primary main.
  17. My ke20 SE had the same blacked out section on the boot.
  18. Float setting is 6mm and 50mm. Carb top to float top and car top to to float bottom. Base setting for idle mixture is 2 turns out from seat and idle speed screw is 1&1/2 in. Not sure how that 3k twins run on a5k with standard jetting considering I can't get a standard 4k unit to run right with standard jetting on my 5k. I'll say though that the early ke2# series single carbs did come out with some larger jetting than the later 4k carbs
  19. I know a lot of people aren't interested in playing around with the stock K series Aisan carburettor. I reckon they're tops and if it wasn't for the ridiculous cost of a rebuild kit and a dip in the acid bath, i'd spend my days rebuilding these little gems. I've handled a quite a few 3k and 4k variants but i'm looking for any information on jet sizing in regards to the 5k version. I know there are variations between each and every carb but sizing on the idle, mains and power jet would be great. Below are my ke70 4k and ke30 3k carbs.
  20. Full retard mofo at the servo parks me in while I'm paying. I get in the car and knock it in reverse. Lights obviously telling Dickface I'm reversing... does he move? I start moving backwards... does he move? A little more backwards and ill have enough to get around the car in front.... Chode is now on his horn! You want ʞ©$ɟing DANCE! :eatlead:
  21. I think its a combination of timing and fuel delivery coupled with low engine speed and a sudden loss of manifold vacuum when the throttle goes wide open. Having vacuum secondaries is likely the source of the issue because there is a momentary delay between when your foot hits the floor and the secondary throttle opens. Fuel delivery from the accelerator pump is instantaneous so it could be overly rich for a moment.

  23. Sorry. Was pretty drunk last night. Please disregard my previous comments.
