  1. Thanks Sian, Yeah, Doesn't seem too bad of a job. I might give it a go this weekend. I'm gonna pick up the kit tomorrow and once fitted I'll take it to get gassed at my mechanics. Cheers.
  2. Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I got a quote today from a wreckers for a full AC kit for a AE101 but without the air compressor (I already have one attached to the engine). They quoted $250 for it, is that reasonable?? Would it be much trouble fitting it myself? The engine won't have to come out as the compressor is attached already. I think I would need to remove the radiator to hook up the condenser and piping, and run the piping through the firewall into the dash. The dash will have to come out, would this be tough to do? Don't have much experience working on cars but I have some know-how and I figure that I could learn along the way and ask questions on here, everyone seems pretty helpful :)
  3. I want to fit Air conditioning into my 1994 Corolla Seca AE101. It has the 4age 20 valve silvertop engine in it at the moment and the air compressor is ALREADY attached but it requires everything else as it didn't come standard with AC. 1. Does anyone know what AC kits from what model corollas would fit to the compressor already attached to the silvertop engine? Are they interchangeable? 2. Can you recommend a wrecker for me to call that might have this part or deals with corollas? 3. Would it be hard to fit myself? The compressor is already attached to the engine so I imagine the dashboard needs removal to install the buttons/interface and the radiator would need to be removed to install the condensor, piping, etc. Anyone done this before?
  4. Might do it this weekend Thats handy to know, thanks :y:
  5. :laff: These didn't come with strut braces stock and therefore no mounting holes, If I can be bothered to I'll drill some and bolt it up.
  6. Hey all, I'm new here. Got my 1994 Corolla AE101 Seca CSX a week ago as I needed a reliable daily. I chose this particular car because of its hidden prowess. It has a fairly fresh tiwin cam 4AGE 20 valva (aka silvertop) It was a nice surprise to me that it also came kitted with the interior for a corolla trueno/sprinter which feature much nicer sportier seats that are so damn comfy which make my everyday commuting a pleasure. Here it is as I bought it, It was also lowered with lovells lowered springs: And the 20V which has 90,000km on it, strut brace is a nice little bonus as well. Here are some more pics with some new 17" rims I bought for it, they have Federal 595 fitted up front (205/40/17) Plans for it so far: - Get some decent speakers for the rear and wire them up to an amp. - Get a 2.25" press bent exhaust system made up in mild steel with a high flow cat, resonator and lukey muffler (want it to remain fairly quiet) - Buy some extractors for the exhaust and get it dyno tuned - Fit a 3A pod filter and design an airbox for it with a cold air feed from the front bar. Beyond that it doesnt need much else. :)
  7. I will do a transmission oil replacement to see if the problem goes away. Can anybody recommend some reasonably price oil to use for the gearbox? I'm not too sure what these gearboxes use.
  8. Just wondering if anyone here can roll my rear guards? I have a Corolla AE101 seca liftback. I'd like them done well enough and not be too shabby. If anyone here can do it or reccomend a place in sydney that will do it for cheap please let me know. Thanks.
  9. Thats a relief, thanks for the help mate. I'm becoming a big fan of the rolla the more I drive it.
  10. yeah, I've realized this issue has come up a few times for these gearboxes. It seems to be the norm for gearboxes with high km on them or ones that have been thoroughly abused. I'm gonna wait and see how bad it gets. at the moment its still pretty ok, especially if I rev match or blip the throttle a little bit before I drop to second. If it does crunch though, is it actually damaging the gears or something major?
  11. yep, ive been using that technique since I got the car to avoid that horrible crunch, it works mostly but still ocassionally hear the crunch. I'll be ok to stick with it for a while until I can source the C52 gearbox at a good price ($200~) or C56 (which i hear has slightly better ratios but costs a little more and harder to track down) Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.
  12. I recently purchased a 94 Corolla Ae101 which has a silvertop 4age 20 valve engine. The engine is running great but the 5 speed gearbox in it seems to crunch when going from 3rd gear to 2nd gear. I think it might be due to a worn out synchromesh, is this correct to assume? If this is the case it means the gearbox will need to come out and get reconditioned which could get expensive. 1. would it be cheaper to just buy a 2nd hand gearbox and get it put in 2. Could I do it myself or does it require lots of expertise and mechanical knowledge. 3. Most importantly, what is the name of the gearbox in my AE101 seca, couldnt find the name anywhere. 4. Are there other corolla gearboxes that will also fit and mate up with the silvertop 20v? I'm new here and new to toyotas so any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks :(
