  1. ok... so maybe its NOT the points :bash: not a good way to spend your Saturday night / early hours of Sunday morning stuck on the side of the highway had to leave it overnight on the side of the road and get a tow truck the next day. didn't matter how much I adjusted the points or rechecked them - the hesitation / lack of power under load is still there. :( mind you, once it got home and rolled off the tow truck, I started it up, ran fine, drove it up and down the front yard (not wanting to go further than I could push it) and it seemed to drive fine! :hmm: Wondering now if its some crud in the fuel tank / fuel pickup that is getting blocked after a bit of driving and then just causes the carbie to lean out gives it just enough fuel to run/idle - but as soon as you step on the go pedal it chokes and hesitates then you leave it for a while, and the crap floats away / unblocks whatever Looks like I might have to drop the fuel tank and clean it out. but still has half a tank of fuel in it! fun fun fun
  2. yeah - what he said
  3. ok... who had money on distributor points ? one of the simplest little things that seem to be overlooked. had a couple of mates mention points gap, but without a feeler gauge handy I had no way to check. picked up my new ignition points on Tuesday that I had to order in from the parts store. went to fit them in the dizzy last night and just for interest sake, thought I would see what the gap was like on the current points. borrowed feeler gauge from my brother. turned motor to TDC - no gap backed it off a little to high point in dizzy shaft - hardly any gap ... couldnt even fit a 0.2mm in there WTF... ?! So just to confirm this as the problem, I loosen the adjustment screw, which was tight as by the way - and regapped the points to about 0.457mm (which is the gap spec I noticed mentioned on another thread) replace rotor and dizzy cap, start up 4K motor REVVVVVV... singing along beautifully :laff: Happy Days! even took it for a test lap around the block and gave it some stick - ran fine in summary, have no idea how or when the points got so far out of wack, esp with the adjustment screw tight. and EPIC FACEPALM for me not checking the gap sooner before starting a new thread in the tech section and causing concern. :bash: I guess thats what you get for a n00b backyard mechanic working on his first car that has ever had dizzy points to be replaced  I will fit my actual new set of points on the weekend and gap them properly and hopefully that will be the end of my ignition problems for a while *fingers crossed* now I can go back to modifying!! Damo
  4. awww... bye bye Corolla hope we still see it kicking around Perth. Do you have any idea what the new owner has planned for it?
  5. cool thanks mate. really hope its not something in the fuel tank - that would be a bastard! pulling out the choke is the only real way to try and keep the motor running. it brings the revvs up just enough to keep it running for a while. but its still coughing and struggling with the same symptoms
  6. yup, I've replaced the condenser thats attached to the dizzy. although today I noticed one similar thats attached to the coil? does anyone know if this is the same part?
  7. :no2: I checked majority of the vaccuum lines that were easy to get to. Is there any that I should look at in particular?
  8. my super Rolla has hit its first stumbling block after a few weeks of reliable driving... she's got a total lack of power - and I don't just mean cos its a 4KC motor so wierd that it was running perfectly fine one day, and then went to drive to work the next day and this problem occured basically coughing and spluttering and struggling to idle. I can put my foot flat to the floor and it just coughs an pops and backfires. Can't even get the car to move under load, it just stalls. upon purchasing from the previous owner, I know the following things have been claimed to be replaced within the past 12 months (and they still look in good condition): - coil - leads - new mechanical fuel pump - battery last weekend I replaced fuel filter, distributor condensor, and sprayed a hell of a lot of carbie cleaner in. Still seems to be getting fuel in the carby, so seems to be more an ignition/spark issue. checked coil, still sparking this weekend new spark plugs new dizzy cap new rotor (new points not in stock - now on order) All vaccuum lines appear to be connected and in good condition, nothing dried out or cracked that I could see. so far STILL no joy in fixing my problem. :bash: any suggestions on things to check/test would be helpful :hmm: cheers Damo
  9. ok... so found out I have the bosch dizzy. BO dizzy cap and rotor are bigger. all fitted now - but intermittent ignition problem still exists :bash:
  10. Dang!... well now I am having the same problem!.. got dizzy cap, rotor and points - and they are all wrong!.. My dizzy is a lot bigger for some reason. Does this mean its the nipon denso one? or the aftermarket Bosch one ? and that said - what part numbers am i meant to be chasing down then??
  11. saw that one advertised on Gumtree. also see your car on there too. the old picture of the car is kinda out of context and confusing, you should delete that one and just have current pics up had any bites yet?
  12. nice first car man! lucky lad She's gonna be a beast after the engine rebuild :) people are asking a packet for Simmons wheels these days - but not necessarily getting them sold. Your wheels look nice, good offset, bit of lip, about 15inch(?), good condition. probably get about $600 for them - or might find someone that wants to do a swap with you First cars are always a great way to learn more about mechanics and working on cars in general Keep up the good work Damo
  13. hahaha... quoted for truth!... WOMEN :rolls:
  14. great to see another canary E70 ! ... your car is looking so tidy mate, great job  Damo
  15. I think they are these wheels ... XXR 941 I like the black centre with the polished lip. mmmm
  16. i reckon these wheels would look nice on my car... but maybe with black centres
  17. hey man - what wheels are these? Thanks for the suggestions guys. Keep the replies coming  Damo
  18. I don't know where exactly to post this topic. Couldn't really find a exterior or wheel specific section... Just bought a KE70 sedan with some horrible ugly looking wheels on it which will be removed as soon as I find something I like (and can afford) I've done a few Google searches, but just wanted to get opinions from Corolla lovers - in your own opinion, no judgements, Whats the best wheels you've seen on a KE70/AE71 that really suit this model car ? pics of said wheels on the car would really be appreciated. cheers Damo
  19. hey man... nice build-up thread. this Rolla has come a long way since the purchase! good effort!! :y: Damo

  23. Dear all I have entered a charity fundraising walk to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF). A team of walkers has entered the event from my work, as they do every year, and this year I will be joining them. It’s a long distance walk totaling 7km, and all money raised by our team will go to JDRF. To find out more about JDRF or to sponsor me to do the walk, please visit the below website: http://walk.jdrf.org.au/WA/DamienFerraz/ Sponsorship donations (you can pay online above) accepted by Credit/Debit cards Also remember that your donations are tax deductible, so the more you give, the more you can claim back on your tax next year :P Anyone can donate to this worthwhile cause, so please also feel free to forward the above link onto anyone you think would like to help out with a bit of $$.
