cheers man I'm alright with paint except for when I rush like tonight I should have waited till tomorrow because it was too cold and it blushed so I will have to redo it tomorrow anyways. It wont be long now and she'll be rockin! within 2 weeks all the drive line will be done and it will just be the body work to get done. So I estimate 2 months and she will be on the road.

Another Update got some more done tonight. Got the Crossmember, steering rack and LCA's out. Painted up the castor rods and the brackets they mount to but unfortunately it was a bit cold and the paint blushed on the brackets so will have to redo those tomorrow. Just gotta change over the ball joints and bushes in the LCA's and fit the Rack ends and Tie rods and then I can start throwing all the front end back in. I expect to have the whole front end done on Saturday and with a bit of luck have the rear end apart. Some Pics.

On Saturday I got my front Suspension painted and fitted the struts and new springs. Also got the Front swaybar out, strut bars, the points they mount to out going to pull out the steering rack and crossmember Monday then get them all painted up. Also going to spray body deadener in the arches and the front of the under carriage. Pics!!

Found some AE86 struts and brakes going to run them till I go turbo.
-
Got a bit more done on the weekend. Pulled the front struts out only to find that my inserts don't fit my struts so going to sell off the springs and everything and buy some 86 gear as I need stopping power. Anyone got any struts for sale?
-
Yeah I was actually thinking the exact same thing. Been speaking to a bloke on AE86DC and he had a T25 from his experience it sounded like he was hitting max boost at 4500rpm which does suck for a 4AGE looking into prices of T28's and stuff at the moment. The 1000rpm extra lag wouldn't matter as when I've driven a 4AGE spirited I've always kept it between 5000-7000. My mates gen5 rex is the same deal with the stock turbo between 3500-5000rpm its great but then from 5-6500 its just crap.

So I was being lazy and haven't started pulling the front apart but will today cause I finished 1:30 and the rest of my bushes rocked up today and so did my Adjustable swaybars! 24mm front and 18mm rear. Also bought a little present for my birthday. I got pretty much all the bits just need to make a dump pipe and buy some GZE injectors and an adaptronic.

Over the last couple of days put the dizzy, rotor, dizzy cap, covers, water pump, mounts and everything on. Only things left is to paint the intake manifold and throttle body and fit them. Also got to get some stainless cap screws for the clear cover and spark plug cover and buy a lightweight flywheel and fit it. I'll start on the car tomorrow night removing all the running gear. I don't want to do the paint until very last as the car is sitting at my work and gets covered in sand, metal, overspray and whatever else comes out of our metalfab joint. It feels like sandpaper at the moment lol. Any idea's on how to remove the rear window as I've never done one in a corolla before. I'm assuming just feet on the inside of the glass someone supporting outside and just push it out or does the seal need to come out first?

Cheers man I've spent a lot of time on the motor but I want it to be good when its in. Spent about $2000 on the motor very cheap build I reckon. I just didn't want a flogged out 4AGE will be great having a fresh motor. I've already painted it black. I'll do a trial fitting and see how it looks. Do you mean shooting flames and pissing oil out near the engine? lol. I hope oil doesn't piss out in the engine bay that would suck but it is going to get a very hard time once its run in.
-
Cheers man yeah I decided to paint the cover gloss black. I thought exactly what you were thinking. It will look much better with the blue leads. My headers are black and I was thinking of painting the intake manifold wrinkled black with anodised blue throttle body. I'm thinking It might all be too much black though since the engine bay is black too. Just paid for a selbys 24mm front and 18mm rear swaybars, adjustable panhard rod and T50 shifter rebuild kit.

Didn't get as much done as I'd hoped over the weekend as I had heaps of family shit between the missus's and mine. Anyways got the cam gears and covers finished and done most of the final assembly. Just gotta fit waterpump, water outlet, timing belt covers, spark plug cover, dizzy and intake and exhaust manifold. The longest part of the motor so far has been the cam covers it took me about 3 hours to tape up the letters so I could paint the covers black. Then the paint chipped off one of the 0's and I had to recoat it so you can see it looks darker. I'm pretty happy with how its looking but think I should paint the spark plug cover a different colour from black as it maybe too much black. I have blue NGK leads so it will break up the black a bit.

Just some more pics of a little bit more I did last night. I gave the engine bay another coat as I ran out of paint the other day and some spots weren't totally covered like in the gearbox tunnel, chassis rails radiator support. Sorry for the darkness was about 7PM. Just one of the car in the booth. Can you tell we spray a lot of blue?
-
Did a bit more to the motor last night. Got the rear oil plate, oil pump, baffle plate and sump on. I fitted the head just loosely for now but I'll tighten it down tonight. One of the threads in the oil pump where the sump bolts to at the front is stuffed the bolt goes in but just turns. Also the two guide pins on the sump have been trashed and the nuts wont screw on anymore. I'll recut the thread in them and will have to see if I can tap the oil pump hole bigger.

Ok so got a little bit more done last night I started putting the 4AGE back together. Also had all polyurethane bushes and Boge shocks rock up from AJPS.
-
Got my engine bay rubbed down on the weekend. I sprayed it too but I ran out of paint when I was almost finished.
-
The last 2 days I've done a bit more work. I got my new pistons onto the connecting rods and painted all the pulleys, cam gears and fuel rail in anodised blue. The cam covers I did anodised blue writing but I am still yet to paint them wrinkled black. Some pics....
-
I picked up my block finally on the weekend I had it bathed, Bored, Honed, New gallery plugs and New brass welch plugs. Painted it up yesterday in Ford light blue now its ready to assemble can't wait! Also painted my lowered springs in the same colour. I painted the pedal box pedals too just a fresh coat of black.
-
Got the old pedal box out last night and threw in the AE71 pedal box. It was a pain in the butt to get in. The steering column couldn't go any lower and I didn't have the dash cap off so the top bolts were hard to get to because they were behind the windscreen vent. The brake booster came straight out once the pedal box was loose. I drilled the holes for the clutch master but I need to make the bottom hole a bit further over to the right as its about 5mm out so the brake master holes are just off. Gotta love that plastic on the firewall it reminds me of a chocolate easter egg how it breaks.
-
Got some more work done last night. Pulled out all the old pollution crap, coil, master cylinder, some of the brake lines and wires. I can't seem to get the brake booster out. I'm pretty sure I've got it undone and its just stuck but I don't want to force it and break something. I took off the master cylinder, the 4 bolts on the interior holding it in, I removed the pin that connects it to the pedal and the spring on the pedal too. It seems loose but it just doesn't want to come out. Have I missed anything or should I just jam a big flat head screwdriver down behind it and pry it out? Just a pic of the engine bay now. I also bought some 20thou pistons and rings and a spigot bearing this morning so I can get the engine finished. I also bought some front and back wheel bearings.
-
Tell me about it but at least I've got most of the shopping done. Last bits to buy are spark plugs, oil, bearings and I'll be buying of AJPS this week full super pro bushing kit and boge shocks. Going to do some more work on the engine bay tonight just rip out the pollution gear, drain the brake fluid and start cleaning it all up. Going to take the front guards off and run the wires from the battery through to the underside of the guard then back on the top of the engine bay. Then prep the engine bay for painting. I'd say she wont be finished for say 2-3months at least unless I ditch the missus and work on it everyday but I can't see that happening lol.

Engine is up for sale in for sale thread and on ebay
-
I got stuck into my rolla a bit more last night and the 4K is finally out thank god. Going to start cleaning up the engine bay tonight and the engine and gearbox then throw those up for sale. Some Pics!
-
Liking the rolla man its looking pretty good. Rims look waaaay better than stockos on KE70's they make them looks heaps tuff! I like that you've now painted the bottom lip the same colour as the car instead of black. Don't know about the taillights I was going to do the same but I want them dark. Could you post a pic of how they look with the brake on in the day?

I thought I'd update this page as I haven't in ages! Reason for that being I haven't done much to the car but I have got lots and lots of goodies. $6,666.15 worth to be exact. So far this is where I'm up to. I took out the tail lights and took the rear bumper off to get a good look at the rust. Also pulled off the plastic strips down the side and the chrome trim from around the window. I totally stuffed the chrome strip around the window. It was sooo flimsy and the plastic inside it broke like it was a cheap chocolate easter egg. The rust looks way worse now I've taken a screwdriver to it lol. Both these top sides I'm going to cut out and replace with new sections I have. This part I'll just cut out and weld a plate in. The bottom section here I'll just cut off the whole way along then just press a new piece up and weld it in its place. I pulled apart my 4AGE so I could start rebuilding it. The last owner of the motor said the head was rebuilt 15,000km's ago but I find that hard to believe as it was filthy! Here's some pics of how bad the top end is and how bad the parts are. Looks like it hasn't had regular or decent oil changes. This is the rust in the number one bore. Its from sitting outside with the spark plug not in all the way. I got the head cleaned up the shop charged $110 with stem seals replaced supplied by me. I acquired 3 more bigports off a guy on AE86DC I swapped a pc for them. 1 was setup for carbys in rwd with a 7 rib block, rwd water pump and alternator bracket so I've stripped that down so I can use the block. Also the cams in there look as though they have a higher lift than the stock ones. I measured them with the vernier and they're about .5mm bigger than my stock bigport cams so I've put those into my head. Here's a Picture of the cams in the Head they are a lot cleaner than my ones too. This is the 7 rib block that I'm going to get cleaned up and use. I pulled apart the 7 Rib block and was having a read through that bill sherwoods 4AGE page turns out this block is a 7 rib big port. Its 7 rib with no oil squirters. Check out how much bigger the connecting rods and gudgeon pins are than the standard bigport. Don't know if they are stock but these came off the carbied 4age apparently it was in a ke30 race car. Got stuck into the interior and ripped out most of it. Seats, carpet, centre console, lower console and most of the dash. Ripped off the chrome trims on the outside of the car gutters and got them off without ruining them. Took off the headlights, grill, bumper, beaver panel and blinkers. Can't wait to get the 4AGE in. Going to paint the engine bay black then throw in the 4AGE and get it running so I can take it for a spin then have some incentive to get the rest of the car done. Just a pic of the engine bay so can get a before and after. I was going to do a full respray but as I'm going white I'll just paint the whole outside, engine bay, door jams and boot and underbody in body deadener. The floor doesn't have any rust neither does the inside of the roof so I don't see any point repainting them if I'm just going white. I got the bonnet off, tailshaft out, exhaust off, engine and gearbox totally loose and ready to just lift out and removed the radiator about 1 week ago. I took my time and attached tags to all the wires and pipes so I know what goes where and can work out what I do and don't need. Sorry for the massive post but just getting this thread up to speed as I want to become a more frequent member on here as I'm mainly on AE86DC.

Ok so I picked up the wheels on Thursday and they needed a bit of work. I spent 14.5hrs on Friday and Saturday cleaning the black off the front of the spokes with thinners and a rag. After I took the paint off the rims we're pretty badly pitted so I had to use steel wool to remove most of it. I then used a polishing pad on a drill to polish the wheels up. After that had to mask each individual spoke which took like an hour per wheel. The finished product after painting. I only got two done the other two I'll do this weekend. I think they came up pretty good though. This is the only pic I have of them on the car I took at like 6am this morning in the car port. Will get some more soon. Oh a two weeks ago I also put in a tacho dash and fitted some blue LED dash lights and a Gizzmo dual stage shift light I had sitting around. The shift light really has no use on the 4K as I set it at 5000rpm to get ready to shift and like 5750rpm to shift but it takes like 10 seconds to go between the two. Oh yeah also spent $100 on new wheel nuts and centre caps but they only had speedy stickers to stick on the centre caps.
