Can i run a 4k head on a 3k block, is it worth it apart from better valve stem seals, newer, i will recondition it, as i was planing to do to my 3k head, but it seems more logical to recondition a part and keep the car running till its ready to put on. Or should i just do it all to a 4k and save the trouble
  2. hey fellas just scored a set of hitachi su's but I'm chasing a manifold cause i got a datsun one. Is anyone running the su's and what size do they run with what jets? Is the performance noticable?
  3. found a coupe today bit rough round the edges definately needs paint and bit of panel work, interior is fair condition, but it has a 5k and weber and cam what do u guys reckons worth asking?
  4. the mufflers all been modifyed, the benefits of knowing 2 different exhaust fitters. problem is paying the money to get a sound like a wet fart in a can its a 1200cc corolla, i don't wanna be heard 3k's away going up a hill or stretching out a gear, its quiet now but it's leaking to much out the muffler just wondering if u run a resonator cause they change the sound a bit, i might get a reverse muffler see how it sounds. How does the 4k sound with your setup? does it drone on the highway or sound real buzzy? i just want a tight note thats why I'm thinking of leaving standard 1.5"
  5. i gotta get my muffler sorted out its got holes etc.. i have a turbo tuff muffler in the shed 2". the car runs standard 1.5" pipe should i just get it welded on the rear and how loud will it be?? what sound have people got out of what setups?
  6. you don't think a 32/36 would be too big??, having said that I'm contemplating twin dellortos/solexs if i could get my hands on some. anyone got suggestions on a carby or do u reckon to have real small jets? darn it'd be good up top end with that carby
  7. i like the way the 3k feels ive been driving it abit lately, probably just get the head done with a little port, sort out the carby, and do cam and lifters with the head off, should drive nicely. wont cost much to get that sorted and i can always build a 4k up with the car running the 3k. next question would be what carby to use with a tighe cam, exhaust, regraphed dizzy?
  8. cheers for the info fellas, from what I'm thinking is buiding up a 4k and running my 3k manifolds, losing the egr gear on it. Is there anypoint in grinding this heat triangle to try separate the 2 manifolds and cool down the air in the inlet?
  9. hey guys this is my story. Picked up a ke35 coupe off an old couple 2 owners done 114000km stock as a rock, rear venetians, awesome interior and exterior, motors alright, if anythin it probably hasn't ever been revved past 2000rpm. its valve stem seals are shot so blows a little oil, compression is good at 140 each cylinder. Now my story is that my misses wants to keep it standard, but i wanna put an sr20det in it, so instead of the sr, I'm thinking of freshing up the motor so it's reliable and quick. The 3k's got good compression and i was thinking of getting the head reco'd next week so it stops blowing smoke, but then i'll be tempted to get a cam, and then exhaust, then carby. I'm planing on another muffler cause its f@$ked, its running 1.5" pipe so that should be big enough for a 3k right? the carbys leaking at the plunger pump and the inlet/exhaust manifold gives me the shits cause its joined by that triangle shit. Has anybody done the swap of a stock 3k to a stock 4k and was it worth it? Whats the 4k like in comparsion to the 3k is 100cc that much of a jump in power, with the compression that i've got should i keep the 3k in there cause its all standard and shit, or should i step it up to the 4k? the motors sitting on between 4000-4200rpm at round 105km in the 3k, will the 4k rev lower? Whos got the information bout these motors that wants to have a chat that i can ask some questions i love working on old cars cause there simple and usually cheap when u can find parts I'm in brisbane so if anyone can give us a help would be good, cheers
  10. are 4k exhausts and intake manifolds and 3k exhaust and intake manifolds interchangeable?? i know its a stupid question but just want it clarifyed. having said that is there a better or worse intake or exhaust manifold that i can put on my 3k?? is a 4k, 5k inlet bigger or longer?
  11. gday lads just wanting to know if theres a rule of thumb when adjusting the air/fuel mixture on the carby, like tighten it then back off 2 1/2 turns or anything similar to that?? I'm running quite rich and don't wanna get a paided tune until i fix my muffler
  12. gday i've got a 3k with a starter problem I'm assuming, drive the car for an hour or so, turn it off to go in to the shops, servo etc... jump in turn the key get the oil and brake light up on the dash, turn the key to start, expect to hear a crank of the motor and nothing.... no sound no throw out no solanoid sound nothing. the car with clutch instantly, and in some cases will start again if turned off minutes later... Now i've read that the older starters had sticking problems under heat, and the 4k ke70's came with a heat shield, but is this my one and only problem?? its just heat sticking preventing from starting or what?? has anyone had anything similar to this that can help recitfy before i go and fit a 4k ke70 starter cheers
