Will be going along to watch Sloth! Hope everyone can make it out there for at least one day!
-
I'm sure it's not what you're thinking, Joe! Right?? :S

The 16V block appears to be out of commission, as the "big gouge" is at least 2 millimetres deep (how I do not know!). As for the head, it would cost more to re-use than buy one in better condition, as the cam journals are all scored. You're right about the engine being the cheapest part of the conversion, Dave! Keep your eyes on this thread guys. Instead of a new block and head, I have something else in store for the engine bay! :)

Hi everyone, This is my new beauty that I hope survives longer than the life of all five of my previous cars put together (not very long at all)! So it's a Tumut Blue KE70 sedan with the regular 4A-GE engine conversion. It also features some suspension modifications, including front coilovers, stiffer rear springs, adjustable shock absorbers, some larger sway bars, AJPS adjustable panhard rod and also an aluminium fuel cell in the boot, which will make it's way under the boot at a later stage. Here's some pictures! I picked her up on Friday off another RC member in Canberra and eagerly drove it home, knowing that the engine could explode any minute... 7000rpm later she's still going okay, with the odd occasion when something non-combustible ended up in the number-3 cylinder. I decided that it had a blown head gasket at minimum, as I was informed of the compression being low in one of the cylinders. Oh how I was wrong!! Going on long into the night, I removed the head off the block to discover what the problem was.. Yes there was a blown head gasket, but there was a much bigger problem at hand, unfortunately. "Something" fell off/into the third cylinder and caused a whole lot of damage to the side of the bore and squish area of the head, which looks, in my opinion, unable to be salvaged! Pics! When I was adjusting the AJPS panhard rod I noticed part of the equation to it's super tight handling. BIG Swaybars! I've never been around race cars or heavily modified street cars designed to handle, but I didn't expect the swaybar to hold BOTH sides of the car up. Pickachurrs.

Good to see so many Canberra guys out at Toyota Fest! I was there, but without wheels unfortunately. Definitely something I'd like to see running at the SDMA hillclimb or Wakefield Matsuri ;)
-
Turn out for ToyotaFest was awesome! Soo many RollaClubbers hanging out there.. There was in excess of 10 guys there.
-
Have a look and you can let us know! It will take you half an hour.
-
Probably not. I don't know how bad it is yet!
-
Wow that is keen haha. I'm a goer for 5am, but it depends if I can get my mates lazy ass ready in time! Let's hope I can get a certain Blue Corolla ready in time too! ;)
-
Can't complain though! My mate/s and I are probably heading up to Toyota fest on Sunday! Should be a good day.

Was at the GM, Chrysler and Ford show and swap meet in Queanbeyan earlier today. The turnout for number of cars was pretty good, with around 100-130 in show suit. However, the swap meet side of it had a little to be desired. Considering we arrived at 9:30am on the 2nd day, I can understand why! It was good to catch up with you guys at the hillclimb! How did you go with your last run, Joe? The alcoholics decided to do a no show. They know who they are haha. As for the rest of the guys make sure you're ready for the next one!

More pics of wagon, Ben?
-
It's just not your style, J! I think it looks shit too. Pretty cool that he's rockin a 1ggte, though. What a shame that blue KE70 has a fuel tank the size of mars taking up the boot.

Can you confirm this date, Sloth?
-
That KE10 err.. Publica looks awesome! I thought I'd write up your to-do-list for you. You can thank me when you've ticked the list. * Pull out 3K, install 5K with: - Cam regrind - Raised compression ratio - Ported head - Twin downdraught carburettors * Cut down old exhaust. Weld old exhaust into fancy letterbox sculpture. * Install extractors, and new exhaust.. NO MUFFLERS * Paint "69" racing numbers on door with Team Toyota and Castrol murals on bonnet and tailgate. * Replace 90's rims (who would even put them on :hammer: !) fit 13x7's. Big rubber! * Beat Datsun's. Do it! :)

Pm if you like. Didn't have phone on for a couple days mate, but should work now.

Go the Rollas! Good to hear we're running the competition 1st and 2nd J. That'll make my day seeing some more good times, so I'll make my way out to the last 3. I was being silly and sliding the wagon a week before I was leaving for Queensland and ran headfirst into an embankment and tipped it on the side. FR chassis rail and castor rod mount are both twisted, plus the obvious cosmetic damage. Would be fixable, but I haven't the time or money as it still is quite extensive. Registering my 82 Mazda was a bit hectic with only a week to get it done! I have a spare fuel line, John. My new number is 0404 484 235.

Hey guys. I think the hillclimb is an awesome idea, Sammo! There is a BBQ on already and it would give us a chance to catch up with RC members, dream, and in general make a good day out! A cotter cruise every now and then is always on the cards. What weekends are the hillclimbs on? I'm not in a Rolla at the moment, however, I hope to get back into one at the best opportunity, whether it be starting work on the KE30, or another daily. The problem is I'm not 100% sure on what I'm looking to buy for a daily as I've been through THREE KE70's. Yep, I broke the wagon too :( I'm wide open to opinions, as I've been looking at almost every brand of car for something that I like. To name a few I've been looking at Ford TX3 Turbo (AWD); a friend from work is wanting to sell a 1 owner 80,000km 1980 Mazda 626 Coupe; RX2/3/4 (too exy); a 4AGE powered *E7* or any KE for that matter; S13; some sort of bimmer; Subaru Brumby is what I've been looking at recently. Bit open-ended, but haven't found anything good come up yet. Any suggestions? :)

I'd sticker bomb my bedroom wall before I did my car. But I'd sticker bomb my bike before I did my car. I'd also sticker bomb my computer case before my car. Maybe my stove also. Then I'd be out of stickers.. Therefore I wouldn't sticker bomb my car.

The ducks nuts mate! Just flicked through your oldschool thread. Couldn't stop gawking at the amount of custom work on it. Well done to have it driving!

Need An Advise: Buying A Corolla
seabiscuit replied to Ifemamamja's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
If you're looking for a reliable car, you'd have to judge the quality of modifications done by the previous owner for yourself. If they were done quickly and haphazardly, you may need to spend some money to smooth things over. If the mods are done well, with maintenance and reliability in concern, you could be in for a good buy! Fuel consumption would be higher in the 2T, although climbing hills and keeping up with traffic will be easier! I know of a 2T Celica with twin carbs, exhaust, TRD cam and also headwork, which uses 10-12L/100km, depending on the driving being undertaken. The engine is quite "racy", but still very drivable. It could be worth it to buy the car and swap the carbies (and make some money back) for a single 32/36 Weber (or similar) if you were looking for a better fuel economy. You could expect anywhere from 8-10L/100KM if there were mild modifications done to the engine. 2T is a much better design of engine than 4K! :) What do you plan to use the car for? -
I recently went to my first JDM meet in Brisbane just recently and it is a very controlled event, considering it has no official organising committee etc. There were also police there and - being an import tuners gathering - there were obviously some very defectable cars! Because of the behaviour of the event, I think the police would almost encourage it, seeing as it is a great social event for people of the like! Now, the reason that you would have been picked on and defected, was because you put your defect on display (the steering wheel). The unlocked car fine would probably be the cheapest thing they could have given you. I'm sure if they wanted to ream you, they would. But seeing as you didn't have a go at them for doing their job, you got away with it pretty easily! In essence, they didn't mind you bringing along your unroadworthy car, but as soon as you start making a display of it being unroadworthy, they wanted to warn other enthusiasts not to do the same. As the saying goes, "monkey see monkey do!" ps. There is no excuse to have bald tyres. The money you spent on your new quick-release steering wheel should have been spent on some new tread. I've had bald tyres once and I'll never let it go that far again.

Feel kinda bad for my mate, but we gee'd him up for a prank because of how into cars he was. Sad thing was... he didn't know a thing about cars. vvv Rhys: "G'day mate. How much would it cost to install this turbo into my Jimny?" Mechanic: "That's a waterpump, mate!" Silliest things I've done was, drop a diff on my head after undoing all of the bolts; Driving on a bendy mountain road at 1am like a race car driver; doing up a steering arm to strut bolt without loctite.

A 5K will rev to 8,000rpm you know, right? :moon:
