Ke30 Lights Into A Ke55
oh what a nissan feeling! replied to gorms36's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
The round headlights will fit on the square headlight front, but you need to chisel off the mounts for the square headlights as they are in the road. So once you do it, you cannot go back to the square ones. Grills are interchangeable, there are two types of round headlight holders though, so you need to get the ones that go with the grill you choose. -

I welded up the heater hose holes in the firewall and re-drilled them on the other side of the motor, hidden under the inlet manifold. The heater pipes are quite easy to re-route under the dash to the new location. This removes the need to run heater pipes behind the engine taking up valueable space. Looks like you've already welded up the heater holes anyways, same idea? keep the updates coming :y: -
I have found that cos its so old, if you get a start on it, it mostly falls off. Your sillycar must have had a good life. As reed mentioned, dry ice is the known cure, put it on the inside of the car and wait for it to have an effect underneath? Ive never tried that btw. The other option is a butter knife and a whole lot of persistance.

Nice work man, going to a fair bit of effort for the old girl. Not sure whats to be gained by the minor firewall mod? but anyways carry on! Edit: Was just thinking, if you are going to this length, you may want to remove the seal along the back of the bonnet, and weld up its holes and the seam under it. Nearly forgot about mine, cos its not quite in the engine bay. -
Radiator sideways  i think you may have missed the point of a radiator........... :hmm:

Nice work with this car, just read through it, i think you need a 2j to keep the front wheels on the ground!

cool, man that is one expensive and fun way to get to work, i bet everyone wonders why you have a constant grin. So, where do you purchase this juice from, and at what cost? -
straight swap. completely interchangeable.

In a straight line perspective, i have seen a mid 11 sec car drop 0.2 of a secound purely because of removal of big ugly chromies on the fronts, relaced with standard wheels. In a situation where this amount of weight was removed from the body, the difference in time would have been measured in 0.0x instead. Will your braking improve with this new calliper package, or is it just weight? If you are going to full slick tyres, you will require more brakes than you have previously, will your existing setup be sufficient? I honestly think that there is more lap time to be gained in better brakes around qld raceway. As an example, i would gladly take on Xkg per wheel if i knew my braking ability was going to improve significantly. I spent a fair bit of time on QR with my zx10r.

I used a filler from the wreckers, i spent about an hour checking every car until i found one that was metal and deemed suitable. I think it was a fwd pintara or bluebird, i very conveniently wrote it down somewhere i will never find it. I have a flip down plate holder off an LH torana, it is real bulky though, so its very likely i will be making my own instead. Sounds to me like you should perhaps convert to a rear sump? I havn't seen your situation though so you would know best.

Just found this thread, nice work mate, you have some smart little ideas. its good to see you showing everyone how to make the best of what they have, with very little $$$.
-
Man that sucks with the old engine. good to hear youre back at it though, plans sound like a win! Seriouly though, change the sump, not the crossmember, you will be happier with the result. Also, whats wrong with the gearbox adaptor? Custom bellhousing sounds expensive, perhaps a cut and shut bellhousing?

Me too, i spent a year choosing my last colour, and then a week before i was about to paint i nearly did a rush change to a retro dark brown with a slightly lighter brown pearl. Which for some reason i still think is cool. If there is one thing i have worked out with pearls its they have to be very similar to the base colour, usually a few shades lighter, just enough to give a good shimmer in the light.

Tailight Conversion ?

Ah cool, thats good to know, i think the master my bro was using must have been off a later model commo, maybe a vt one. I gave him a spare reseviour i had here and assured him it would fit, but the holes didnt line up, so he is stuck with the funny looking angle reserviour. -
what a shot, that is one solid launch. :blinks:

too much fuel really, especially with the expiry date on 98. Internal pump is so good for hassel free and simplicity, but doesn't quite give me the peace of mind of a surge tank. A lot of the factory internal setups can still starve with the right amount of crazy driving. I know a custom setup is better with trap doors and all that, but still not the same peace of mind. E85 is likey, setting the fuel system up for it, not going to use my 750cc injectors anymore as they wont have the 30% left in them. Probably go with 1200-1500cc now, goodbye smooth idle and crazy good economy. meh, who cares. I think maybe a small seperate e85 tank will be the go, I'm not really aware of a device available to redirect the fuel lines though. -

thanks man.Drop tank is 75 ish litres, i havn't had it changed to suit internal, I'm not putting the surge tank in the boot anymore, and thought i had room to put one on the drivers side of the drop tank. It turns out the room there is limited, and a bit of a headache. In hindsight i should have got the tank modified to run two bosch 040's internally, but i now have an expensive holley 150gph lift pump, aeromotive filter and 044, so i really need to make a surge tank work somehow. -
Cool, wow 4.5 is so low gears. I remember one night when my car was n/a i was running 15.5s for about 5 or six runs, on my last run of the night i let my tyres down to 20psi, and ran a 14.9. It didnt even feel quicker on that run either, must have made the difference though. I can't remember what 60ft i was getting though. Good to hear youre getting out there, I'm getting very anxious to have a decent car to drive again soon......

Yeh mate it does bolt straight up, but only on the 15/16 commodore one, if you use the 1" the ke55 reservior does not fit. Well thats what my brother found when he was trying to do the same thing. I think the 15/16 ones are found on the earlier v6 commos (vn ish). They are pretty cheap to buy complete new, probably the best option. -

yep all standard firewall, not allowed to mess with that here in qld, the motor will hide most of the funny shapes i think.
