Hey guys, long time since an update, unfortunately no piccies as someone decided to steal my camera! Anyhoo, here are some things that have happened. - Guards have been completely flared. - Coolant system checked and filled with glycol. - Gauges wired up and working. What still needs doing. - Rear window put int (I NEED A SEAL!) - Rear seats/parcel tray etc put back in - New bushes for Swaybar to LCA (no idea?!) - Fix idle problem. - Oil in gearbox. - Drive. I need some help sourcing my rear windscreen seal if anyone can help? Also i need some bushes for the pin that goes through the LCA (XT130 LCAs). I have a whiteline 25mm swaybar with the 5 point adjustable blades. They have that weird S piece with a pin the the bottom that goes through the LCA. (i'll take some piccies tomorrow and get some measurements) but has anyone had any success with bushes for these things? surely someones done it before. Anyways stay tuned for some piccies in the next few days.

Hey guys Alec here, with Kaye my '83 KE70 Sedan. Just doing the last few things to get it back on the road and i cannot source a rear windscreen seal at all, no where in Townsville can help me out, does anyone know any good ebay sellers or anyone out of town that would ship me one? i need it to get the girl on the road :( Cheers fellas. Alec PS found this on ebay, would rather get one in Aus, but this is right isn't it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOTA-COROLLA-KE-70-TE72-REAR-WINDSHIELD-WEATHER-STRIP-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27ba10a0b4QQitemZ170625376436QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

if you're not looking for performance and you wanna keep the reliability i'd just get another stock one in cook working order. the simplest upgrade would be a 32/36, but there are differing opinions on whether this is overkill for the ol 4k. You said you have extractors and an exhaust, this is a good start. Getting a reground cam would help too if you went the 32/36 route.

i'm using speco gauges. got a three pack for about 120 bucks. oil pressure, oil temp and ammeter. oil temp is useless tho, i have no where to tap it :( they seem to work well, they look good too.

had no trouble getting the gutter trim chromes off (the ones along the top). the way i did it was to put pressure on the very tip of the chrome at the windscreen adn slowly twist it without warping the chrome till it pops off. mine came off, just be gentle (disclaimer, this worker for me, might not for you  ) the ones around the front windscreen you can use a special tool to get off, its like a hammerhead screw driver but i just snapped mine, then went to my local spare parts store and bought some generic replacement clips. The chromes are always VERY fragile tho, i've done this a few times now (i'm no expert) but i damaged a few before i got the good ones off, always saves to have 3 of these suckers haha PS only relevant to e7s

is a S series diff the same as a "jap" diff. Because didn't the early KE70s come out with S series diffs?
-
yeah i bought VHT too, and it just bubbled off. my paint prep was fine too, strange, dodgy can maybe?
-
referring to the heat of the extractors. i sprayed mine with 600 degree celsius resistant paint, and well, and it burnt off within 20 to 30 seconds of running. heat resistant paint is a joke

haha touge noobs who don't know how to drive told me that, haha. He was actually driving an EG6 tho, so who knows. My 4k LOVED climbing hills, 3rd gear, 4500rpm, love it. he was talking about a ke70 with a 4k in it tho. Not a 4age turbs.
-
yeah thats just dumb saying you have an exemption because you're a mechanic. also performance parts for a 5k are not only easy to get, but cheap as chips too. There's a list as long as my left leg of camshaft grinders (Tighe, Crowe etc), oversized pistons and internal upgrades are easy to source and extractors are everywhere. good luck tho man.
-
Hey mate, do you race uphill or downhill touge? people always say uphill in these cars is useless, but when i used to race in my area the 4k used to LOVE hill climb, just rev its guts out haha.

i am interested in this altezza. could you pm me when you've written it up. i'm slightly depressed about the news i'm hearing about these elec dissys as i thought it was an "upgrade". Can't be spending thousands on a K engine then have it pull like a van ahah

Thanks Dave! Yeah its been alot of time and effort haha. but yeah hopefully she'll be abit of fun when she's done. I had alook at those shocks, they have this punched into the bottom of them KYB KG4623 SF28 I've looked on a heap of online catalogues for KYB and i cannot find these ANYWHERE! One spreadsheet said they were for a Corona? and another parts catalogue kept showing up a reference to an Isuzu and Suzuki part? i have no idea. Might just bang them in and see what happens like you said dave. then if they're crap get em rebuilt.

no but it gives a good indication to the safety personal on the track of where the battery is. So it can be disconnected quickly in the event of a crash to minimise chances of a fire from a spark from a short. -
thanks blz, i just gotta get that loom sorted, but i could atleast get my manifolds on cos that loom runs on the other side of the motor  gunna have to run it in on a stock aisin tho :glare: can't find my 32/36 Its a VW/Audi deep blue, it was the only blue colour that didn't look purple in the sunlight. haha i'll have a gander at the code when i go downstairs and get back to ya

Haha, i was going to say SWEET, i collect 'formers, haha. Nice progress mate!

Oh almost forgot to ask, i've got some wiring problems, first with the alternator. Basically i forgot to take a pic of how it was wired up before i took it out, haha :bash: silly. Basically i have these 4 connections and this i what i THINK they are for. If someone could clarify/correct me it would be great! :laff: A: Pretty sure this is the charge wire and this leads directly to the battery positive (+) terminal. B: This black wired ring connector runs into the loom that runs to the battery positive (+) but i have no idea what it is for, i assumed it connected to here because it's really the only place that it can? C: This one pretty much plugged in so i'm guessing it's alright. D: Is this an earth of some sort? It's connected to that little barrel thing (resistor maybe) but i can't remember where it connects to? or can i just run it to an earth, the cable is mighty short tho, so i'm stumped! :hmm: Alrighty, now with this part of the wiring loom that comes out of the firewall. So there are 6 connections on this, but i'm assuming that a couple of them aren't used because they could be for an auto (this is pure speculation haha) So i'm guessing i need 2 connections to the gear box (1 single wire, 1 dual wire), connection to the oil light sender and a connection to the temp gauge. So i've labelled them: 1: The reverse switch to the gearbox? There's a two wire connector on the gearbox and this is the only two wire connector on this loom so i thought, hey, easy... right? 2: Now this one looks like it connects to the single wire on the gearbox, no idea what it's for? but looks like it is the only one that can reach  3: No idea what this is? another one for an auto gearbox maybe? can someone clarify this? 4, 5, 6: I have no idea, so one needs to be water temp and one needs to be oil pressure. No idea what way round. Maybe 6 is the water temp, as its at the end and stretches the longest? haha. 4 or 5 is the oi pressure light sender? Sorry to be confusing guys, just knocked off work and i'm rooted haha, just wanted to get this out so i can finish her up tomorrow. I had a gander through my haynes manual but its crap and confusing haha, should of bought a Gregories, oh well live and learn. Ok guys, i'm out. Tomorrow is a big day!!! Cheers for the help in advance!

Thanks man! I'm trying to keep it documented well so i can show my old boy where all my money goes, haha  Ah, thanks for clearing that up, i gotta pull that resistor out of there now, haha, can't be too hard. okay then, updates updates updates!!!1 So i FINALLY got everything together to put my clutch in. First i lost a flywheel bolt, then i didn't have any loctite or grease, but it all came together. Here's a few happy snaps for the visually inclined. Here's my good mate helping me align my clutch, well doing it for me cos i'm lazy haha. Here's the gearbox on and ready to go in. Aaaaaaand VOILA! I also found these random shocks in the back of one of my corpse cars. They have a whole heaps of Japapanese writing on them and they say KYB on them aswell. How do i tell if they're ok to use? they look a little ratty, but they depress and extend nicely and there is little to no sideways movement. Just try em out? Sorry bout the crap pics, they're off my phone, someone decided to steal my camera when i was on holidays. Other than that, everything's almost ready to fire. I've just been flaring the other guard slowly, it's so damn hot here! :bash: Oh yeah, the radiator is in and i've wired my thermo fan to a missile switch in the cabin for the time being until i can afford a thermo switch. Should do the trick haha. Big things happening tomorrow so expect more updates!!!

why not rebuild the 5k? cheaper than a 4age or sr/ca conversion and still fun. also could be cheap depending on whats wrong and what you do to it

is that the side of an Autobot logo on a bonnet in the side of that pic there?
-
all good mate, i'm not looking for net-beef, it's too gamey for me. Was just trying to give you a tip that might help you in the future on this website. but you're obviously sweet bro, continue....

probably should have said you'd already looked on google but you were seeking the opinion of others on the forum of a RECOMMENDED auto electrician on the gold coast.

Putting Proformence Carby Air Filter On 84 Ke70 Wagon.
RainWarriorDregs replied to Kezzar's topic in General Mechanical
I put a left over pod from a mates car on my stock 4k in my ke70 and it didn't do much except for make a whole heap of noise. Performance increase was non existent and cops would've had a field day on me so i took it off. Honestly i wouldn't bother mate. -
I put premium in my car (4kc KE70) like whatever the most expensive one is at Shell my car runs like balls on anything else.

doesn't seem like much will be happening today. rain rain rain. there's about an inch of water under my house :(
