  1. Looking good :) Why the 55 lcas and ta22 struts did you have them lying around or is there a benefit over xt130/ae86 gear?
  2. What's does that accomplish Rob? Stripping the synchros further? Changing the gearbox is the best option if you plan to drive the car a lot. But be prepared to be anally raped with no lubricant if you pay someone to do it. Toyota quotes 12 hours for a clutch change. I converted mine to 20v after the original motor had no comp on the 3rd cylinder (420k kms and it was still driving fine just down on power) and my box has been fine. Probably cheaper/easier to find a whole car than it would be to source a box.
  3. Locked diff and stock suspension? Nice clean 71 :)
  4. Did the cops come out as soon as it happened? From what you've described it seems as if you didn't come into contact the other car at all. Unless you've got witnesses or an admission of guilt from the other party you might get screwed. Not hard for them to claim not knowing anything about it and that you were driving like a knob and put your car into a pole. Especially if they see the youtube video (ps take it down it's shithouse)
  5. Out :worship: Motor is done but not run in and don't want to run the risk of something going wrong in the middle of nowhere. :y:
  6. Probably no use to you now but I've got a 400 odd page pdf 4age workshop manual if you want it (pm me). Step by step everything. I've just about finished my rebuild using it. Not sure what prices are like over in WA but seems to have added up a lot for your converison. I know that feeling well. Got bent over nicely getting full balancing and lightened flywheel lol.
  7. Why not chin70? At least post something constructive :) More power over the front wheels = less understeer. You might get more oversteer but that could be adjusted out with suspension tuning. Other option is to mid-mount the motor. Try a search it's been covered before. There's apparently a guy floating about with one that's made 245rwkw and still not running properly (obviously not standard motor). I was looking at my empty bay today and chatting to a mate about it and looking at his rb30 long motor on the ground right next to my car. It'd be a very very tight fit. You'd need at least custom mounts, wiring, firewall and tunnel mods, r31 diff & box, shortened tailshaft etc etc Kiss any chance of rego goodbye too.
  8. Shits rough man but at least you still got your car. I've had 2 grands worth of stereo gear ripped off out of my first car (heart breaking when you're a 17yo) and almost $2k worth of motorbike gear plus a video camera stolen out of my first ke70 from my old works so called secure car park by some junkie scum. Hope they DIAF along with your guys. My advice is to invest in a top quality alarm. I know a lot of us are into your Rollas because they're cheap but it's money well spent IMHO. Paging technology is the way to go these days, GPS tracking is pretty close to being dead. I bought a Rhino RAM V2 from eBay a few weeks ago for $165 delivered. :) Haven't installed it into my daily yet but depending on how involved it is I'll probably be getting another one for my other car.
  9. Hate to break it to you mate but the R32 GTR turbos are T25s :)
  10. Thought I might of got a roasting for saying Megasquirt :)
  11. Yeah I know it's kind of uncharted territory. The whole point of my Rolla is to do everything possible myself, learning as I go. I'm shocked at how far I've come in the last 12 months. For the cost I'll take the risk with it. Got a few clued up mates helping out. What was pre-edit? :P
  12. Megasquirt is what I'm going to try on my 16v ae71 then later on my ae95 20v if it's successfull, mostly due to the cost and the fact that my best mate will be tuning it.
  13. Here here. That's one of the things I'm trying to do with my 71 is make it neat and tidy, body & paint will be getting attention once I finish a few other things not that it's bad now, probably better than 90% of the other *e7*s out there (on the road not just forums :P ) I've spent nearly 1k just on machining and parts to rebuild my bigport so it's not something you do to make money, I would of been better off getting a second hand runner, hell I was even looking around for a whole car with a twin cam for a while but nothing came up at the right price. It's a hobby for me and a learning experience even if I did almost cry forking over wads to the machine shop. The 116k kms ae101 20v half cut I bought and converted into my AE95 only cost me $1250 :P
  14. How much do you spend on fuel in a month? I can bet it's close to if not more than $200. You really think it's worth skimping on something like gaskets which if they stuff up can result in engine failure and a costly rebuild? Considering they last a lot longer than a month average the cost out over the life of the motor and it will be diddley squat. I know a lot of us are into Corolla's because they're cheap but as all people that have a few years experience working on their cars will tell you: Do it right the first time, save yourself the money and the hassle in the long run.
  15. I just replaced the 4afe in my AE95 4WD. 419,500 kms, no compression on the third cylinder for the 10 months that I drove it around daily before changing it. God knows how many before that. Thing never missed a beat, used hardly any oil, no smoke at all, just no power :P
  16. I paid $4250 for mine midway through last year. Clean stocker with a bigport transplant just done (and done properly) and 12 months rego. I'd say realistically around $4 - 4500k? There's a certain someone on here or ae86dc who paid $7k for a stock slant ke70 with a purple respray, 20s and stock interior and driveline so you could get more if the right buyer comes along. Carsales is the way to go if you want big dollars. No one on forums thinks anything is worth anything until they want to sell their one.
  17. Dunno about the smallport kit on a big port, the heads are different so I'd say the gaskets are as well. Bottom end is same same for both motors. I found the cheap ebay kits after I already bought my rings, bearings and gasket kit. If I do it again I might try one. I paid $400 for it all from Bursons, probably worth paying a bit more to make sure you get the right stuff.
  18. DEFINATELY IN! w00t missed the last one cause of work, I'll make sure I'm off for this. :P Now to get my arse into gear and finish my rebuild and the fab work on my slant chrome bars. Otherwise I'll bring the wagon but noone (other than maybe Kev) wants to see that :P
  19. Dude, I've got a good mate down here that does sand blasting, pretty sure he does soda as well. I'll give him a call tomorrow and get you a price :hmm:
  20. GZE is the really the best option here IMHO. Better engine out of the box and much more potential if you're modifying for power later on. Remove supercharger, fit T28 BB turbo from an S15. Aftermarket ecu, tune, fmic & zorst should keep you happy for a while. You'll end up with ~160fwkw setup properly. If you must stick with s/c upgrade to an SC14. Tell your mates with Gen 3s to choke on it when your whole engine package costs less than their gearbox rebuild. :) I paid $2200 to get the auto in my VTII SS recod :P After that sold the car and bought two rollas :P :)
  21. Good shite! Was snoozing the other night on msn when you msged. Get some pics up  How'd you get the cars from wherever you bought them to yours? Expensive tow I'm guessing?
  22. Well if you have the paperwork who are we to argue  Want to buy some parts? I'll help you take your rolla from sick to hektik and it'd only cost $5k. That's half of what it cost to get it to fully sick, bargain!
  23. Lol 2 litre. That's not what the 20 stands for buddeh! Doesn't look like it's had a respray or got different seats, so you spent 7.5k on those "quality" Racing Fear wheels, JUN muffler, TRD sticker and engine conversion? I'm with Luke, AE82s have to be one of the ugliest rollas ever made, especially in liftback guise. School holidays has begun!
  24. 4AGE it's the motor for me  Get a decent 86 or 100kwer in there with exhaust, intake, cams and ecu. If you can't find a motor cheaply have a hunt around, sometimes you can find whole ae82s for under $800 running and that gives you nearly everything for the swap. If you want to go 13BT then you need to start making custom bits. All the parts for a 4AGE conversion can be sourced from factory cars and will bolt straight up with minimal fuss. Plenty of people out there with hybrid car/motors, I personally like to keep it in the family and have 2 rollas, one 16v & one 20v.
  25. Doing my first ever rebuild. Spending the money's not fun but I'm enjoying the experience. Just finished my 20v -> AE95 daily conversion. First one of those too, loving driving it atm even if everything else about the car is shit  Snow!
