kickn5k is it your old cam! the gap between the rocker arm and the top of the spring is about 2mm Taz it is a 5k head with the hydro lifters.
-
With the Tappet noise i measured the push rods and they are 150mm long. would it be woth buying the 156mm ones to stop the noise? the pistons i have ate the shallow dish type.. i have ran out of ideas to stop the tapping noise..
-
Cheers. And yes it does have an intercooler. a nissan r32 one

I goes well. not the quickest car, a quick corolla though! and it gets a few looks as the turbo spools!

Well the Car is COMPLETE. It still has a tappet noise. but that is most likely due to the push rod sizing. i may need to go 1mm bigger. or something because there is a fair gap for the valve clearance However, the dyno wasn't as good as i hoped due to alot of detonation issues. may have to look at making a complete new exhaust manifold up which is a good thing as the one on the car is bad design. anyway the car is making 80rwkw at 6psi and no pinging or any problems. its a safe daily tune.. so itll have to do for now. the car is 98% complete, just need a new set of tread and its done. Now that's this is done looking forward to future cruises and starting my next project. which ill start a new topic and keep everyone updated!

If the lifters have bled down how would i fix that issue. Also i have noticed i am running fully synthetic oil... would that be an issue?
-
After replacing the camshaft to a not so lumpy and aggressive one, will i need to do all the valve clearances? The motor is still really loud like there is no oil on any of the lifters or something.. i don't want to run the motor too long as i don't want to damage the engine. any suggestions? Cheers, Gerard

Well over the weekend i kept busy, I added the oil to gear box and motor, connected all the components of the engine. added coolant and new oil filter and fuel lines and filter. put a battery in the car with some fresh fuel.. and after a little tweaking of the dizzy the beast came alive!!!! although it has really loud tapping noise...I'm guessing ive got too thin oil in the motor.. I'm very excited that I'm 95% complete.. just need to get a tune, tires and rego and she is good to go! ive added a pic, sorry its blurry it was a bright day. I am hoping to have the car complete by the end of the year but with Christmas sneaking up so quickly the funds are not in my favor.

Well since the good weather i have been getting down and dirty.. the pics will show you... So the pic with the bug.. he was being sneaky! the pick of the starter motor is quite close to the manifold.. it'll most likely burn out so ill need to modify the manifold. Thanks - Gerard

Just a quick little update.. Ive been sneakily working away on the car... guards, 1 door and bonnet are ready for topcoat. Other door, boot and body are almost ready for primer. and then ill be painting it the next nice weathered day.. well inside all the doors so then i can put everything back on the car and do a spray. I can't WAIT!! ill try and upload some piccies if my computer lives... and also have a surprise for the rolla club members but that will come later! ;)

What, i still can't hear! hahah yeah.. Also Kickn5k ive put that cam i got of you i think the standard one? in the motor already.. so now i got a lumpy cam sitting around being lumpy.. ill probably sell it once i know the cam i got in the motor will be ok for the turbo!
-
4 YEARS??? what... that long ago.... FML.... well i need to get this done ASAP!!! hahah wow way too long! And yes i didnt think it was that old school of a microtech... i think is a microtech lt10s.. i got it brand new. and can't wait to get out on the streets again in the car.
-
hahaha yeah I'm trying hard to keep maximum space... but give it a few years and she'll be full!
-
Well its been over a year since ive posted on here, and no the car isnt done! ive since moved house and buit a shed to work on the car! i am now getting stuck into it. the motor has be built with the standard cam and the new turbo. Time to start getting into the body work! i want the car painted and running but need some patience!
-
No. The 5K is the same as the 4K only bigger capacity, all mounts and exhaust fitted fine when i did the engine swap. with no hassles at all. Taz_Rx - Thanks for that info, i wont be rushing in and getting a copper head gasket. -Gerard
-
Didn't see this thread, I too have a K-T setup. Cable aswell.
-
ahh too easy, thanks guys, i want the car to run at least 10psi. itll be enough for what i need anyway. I mean the more the better, but also the more $$$ and then where does it stop... I was told the motor was built to suit a turbo, it has a copper inlet and exhaust gasket. but who knows.. Ill keep everyone updated as i go. Thanks Gerard
-
Small update. Well, gotten all the fiber glass on all the panels, ready for sanding and then body filler and more sanding.. I started to pull down the engine and ive found that the motor didnt have a copper head gasket. and being a turbo do i need one? The pistons and valves have a little carbon but apart from that i recon they look all ok. -Gerard

Well all the welding is done on the panels now, next step is to fiberglass them all for the added strength and fill in the holes. all the steel had to be tacked in couldn't do full welds, would blow through too easy. but all panels are strong. Here are some pictures, everyone likes pictures.
-
i've seen them pop up on Ebay. I got mine from ebay for $250 and i saw one on there not that long ago i recon.. just an option i guess.
-
Well got some process done on the car this weekend, Dad came over and gave me a hand doing some welding. managed to get one side of the car done! i'm quite happy with the process. we couldn't get full welds on the panels just alot of tacks. but enough to make it solid. once ive finished welding the rest of the car ill fiberglass the panes and then bog it all up and fish oil it.. which wasn't done when it was fixed the first time.
-
Yeah good point, just the trouble tho as soon as the weld sparks it blows the hole! ill just have to find a good setting! Thanks everyone for the useful tips! -Gerard
-
Yeah gasless is messy with all the splatter, the weld its self isnt too bad! but like you said nothing really beats gas shielded. i might have a suss and buy those little bottles from the tool shops and give that a go. But at the end of the day practice makes perfect.
-
its a cigweld 150. i think it ranges from 41A to 130A
-
well ive got 0.8 wire going through. i must be doing something wrong i mean don't get me wrong ive welded plenty before. just need to practice on the really thin metals. maybe i should get a small roll of 0.6 wire? so you recon gasless is ok, or is my welder too big for car panels and thin metal?
