Gave it a really good clean up today, washed the outsaide, pulled the back seat out and vacuumed the lot. One bonus I found while degreasing the engine was it is fitted with an electronic dizzy. Things to fix before reg Front indicator Rear brakes/diff Speedo 4x tyres rust hole in the vent area rust in sill washers I might also have to put a 3k back in until it has been reg'd. :sob:

Driving A Kexx Long Distance, What To Take?

don't know how long it had been sitting, has not been on the road officially for 3 years + Drove home just fine :sob: -
Yeah about the primer being porous, it is living in shelter for now, it does need a little bit of rust cut out (and a socking big hole behind the dash in the vent area). For now I will treat the rust as it turns up and on a time/money basis work out a new scheme for it, I like the primer idea as it reminds me of a rough rod type of thing.

Here is a short vid of part of the trip, I know my steering wheel isn't on straight :sob:

I picked this up from shepparton victoria this morning after buying it off eBay for $610. It drove the 3.5 hours almost flawlessly. Lets see, It appears to have some type of king springs in the front they are yellow and new, new shocks. a 2" sports exhaust, it sounds really really good, except it drones a little at 95km/h. a 5k, unknown mods, goes like a shower of shit compared to any 4k I have ever driven, stock carby, ke70 radiator. Needs a new diff I think, something is grinding in the back end, it I think is a stuck brake shoe, or f*cked bearing, will see when that comes. 1st gear syncro is shot. will crunch if not put back into first very gently. Only drama I had is the alternator shit itself somewhere and I had to push start it at jerilderie. I got pulled over once for no number plates but the cop and I had a good chat about the car and were on our ways. Plans.... Repair the few small things it needs Rego I want to leave it in primer, makes it look a little rough but I like it as is. Cheers guys!

Home safe and sound, will start a rides thread later. Didnt use anything I took, the alternator shit itself but bump starting it at jerilderie got her going the rest of the way and also a brake pad on the back grabbed all the way also. -
Bloody hell!, this is the second ke I have heard of in the last couple of days being crunched. NO good mate :sob: especially after all that work on the paint.

cost $46 for a week. Way cheaper than driving the ute down, renting a trailor and whatnot. -

lol, taking the boss of the house. Bought tie wire and zip ties today, Have the unreg permit ready, just gotta go fill up dads car so he can drive me down there on saturday. Should be okay, its only 3.5hrs lol. Who wants to hedge bets on how many times I get pulled over for having no number plates? -
I paid $125 per guard, if that is a rough guide on price for you,
-
Are you giving the throttle a good couple of pumps before trying to start?

I got some aftermarket ke30-55 taiwanese panels not long back, very poor fit, I found them good for rust repair sections though.

Looking at his other posts it would be a ke70 wagon.

When I used to do these missions more often when I was into commodores, I remember coming up from melbourne with my bargain for the week, and just hitting shepparton (I was going to central nsw) I dropped a lobe off the cam, but I kept going for another 3 hours, 20km from home I threw a rod out the block and destroyed the motor. But that is the piss poor strength of the black 202 for you lifter noise can also be top snapping off the piston! The motor is a bit newer than the car so with a general checkover we should be good, apparently it still drives great. We will just take some spares in dads car, tow rope, battery, oil, cd player with batteries and take it easy. -
Hi there everyone, I am looking at a kexx corolla 3.5 hours away from my place at the moment to buy, she has been off the road for a couple of years. Unreg permit is no problems, I need to drive this one home as my tow car is knackered. I am thinking of the following on a "just in case" basis Coolant Oil Duct tape, (this bogan fix works great on radiator hoses) Tie wire (just in case something like the exhaust wants to start dragging) Battery Jerry can Spanners Socket set Screw drivers. Would there be much else an old K might need to motor for 350odd km, will not be racing it to get home just cruising along nice. Worst case I will have dad following me with a snatch strap. Pics will be up once I have made my mind up and bought it or not. Cheers.

Good stuff, I saw this one on ebay, great to see it on the forum :y:

The vl jatco auto box is electronic with lock up convertor, etc I am unsure if the manual vl's even had a mount or wiring for the kickdown switch, etc. I Put the whole RB30 and auto setup into a vh a long while ago, however I used all the wiring including the dash from the vl. Why not just buy a vl that was factory auto, a standard one in half decent nick can be had for under a grand and it is a lot less stuffing about.

so does trying to spin two wheels instead of one with the same amount of power going to them.

All the holes where the chrome strips used to clip on under the doors have been filled up and sanded, At this stage I am hopong to get it all masked up for a full coat of primer filler by this weekend. I went up to the old girl on sunday morning and it would not start for the life of it, I cleaned the points, changed the dizzy cap (the carbon button was really worn) cleaned the plugs and found a faulty plug lead, it now runs better than ever. Cheers Doogs, both money and time have been a problem here, house repayments are taking prority now. I do get a little time each afternoon after work. This car must be on the road by october, as I get off my P's and my missus takes my 01 corolla off me.

I was waiting for somone to say something about them, yep they are easy money, and breed like rabbits. Today I am hoping to do the roof on the ke20, will see how we go.

I got stuck into this beast again today, with some good results  Main shell should be in primer by next week, been working on the rear guards, woken up to the fact they will never be perfect. Since the last update I have moved house, I drove it as it was in the last set of pics the small journey to the new place. it went really well. Today I sanded back the last lot of filler I had applied to the rear end. Once that was done I took some rust convertr to the areas with surface rust. Finally I mixed up some primer filler and put it through the gun on the rear guards. Pics!!
