  2. I love this time of year! Daylight Savings ROCKS! I can actually go outside of a night after work (i get home at 6ish) and mow the lawn, or clean the gutters, or wash cars, or work on cars. Its brilliant! I don't care if its dark when I get up or anything like that, the extra hours in the afternoon are grouse! Ohhh and I'm still pissed at the banks, told us by this wednesday now! thats over 2 weeks! luckily we have a nice agent and vendor (friends) so we wont lose the house or anything. I'm also pissed at P plates, and more the fact I forget to remove them when swapping cars. It really makes you notice how different people drive/act towards you on the roads. (something I never noticed while I was on Ps) They will move out of the way or not cut you off etc etc on the F3 when I take the missus P plates off, but if I forget (like thismorning) then everyone likes to hold you up, cut you off, and speed up when you try to overtake them! assholes!
  3. Google Methanol engines and grab some tips from there. Pretty much everything that applies to running methanol will in someway apply to running an E85 (maybe on a lesser scale, but the theory from it is still good) Bump up your compression, in most circles E85 is now reffered to as "street legal methanol" Can run 13-14:1 compression easily.
  4. where exactly is that wreckers? I'm keen for a road trip now! lots of old holdens end up in the outback from the "indigenous" population and the fact they are very easy to keep going and modify if something breaks!
  5. +44- when our heart stops beating and the next song on random play in win. media player is..... sneaky sound system.... UFO..... howd that get there? skip! pennywise- Now I know.
  6. I wish I could cancel christmas due to lack of interest... would save me a fortune! I'm still pissed at the bank, heard today they are carrying out and inspection/valuation on the property today and we should hear by thursday... bastards.
  7. have alot of friends in various industries (even have a few from here at work) When I get the bearings out, its just a matter of getting them to the guys that need them, and they will either find me something that is the same size, or atleast something similar. I'm not affraid to mill some metal from the housing or the bearings to make them fit.
  8. I hate banks. Meant to hear last friday if we got final approval on our homeloan (so we can finish up the contracts and start the final settlement process) still waiting, still stressing and still spending while I can! :P Also, Missus Bday today, diamonds really are a girls best friend, and they get you browny points too!
  9. Baaah, started pulling the SC14 apart, stripped the rotors etc out. Began to sort out removing the front bearings (as they are the rooted ones, the rears are still fine) found a punch that would fit, punched the centre out...... alright, try again, large punch, hammer slips, punch goes off on a mission (read, ended up being hit on an angle) and now ive got a nice 10mm long/wide chunk cracked from the front of the casing. The alloy there is paper thin, and a real pain in the arse. Going to make up a puller to get the bearings out now, as I can TIG up and re-machine the hole Ive made, but don't want the hassle of doing it too many times!
  10. don't have distributors? now theres a handy comment... :P
  11. Your "mate" sounds like a cock. The chick sounds like she is kinda to blame too, playing you off against each other. my contribution is that the *** bank STILL hasnt given us our final approval on the home loan, so we can't sign the contracts and we can't order our pest+building inspections! pisses me off! I'm nervous as hell and they keep drawing it out due to a "processing backlog"
  12. block surface fine? no gouges or cracks? Did you check the head to make sure it is flat? or is that assumed? Is the head cracked? alot of things can cause the dramas.
  13. Went and looked at a joint (missus and I were buying a house, well we have bought one now, but this was back when we were looking!) riddled with termite damage. Saw it from down the road while we were looking at another place, saw a big divit in the roof, and thought "looks like houso" (housing commission) so we walked down the road (like 4 houses) and checked it out, turned out to be for sale, was very run down and grass was waaay overgrown. But had potential, and the fact that the outside was all run down meant we could offer less for it! anyway, we organised to go look at it with my uncle (long time carpenter/builder/concretor/jack of all trades) he jumped up on the roof, took two steps and then decided it might be smart to get off..... long story short, he got up in the roof, every batton holding up the tiles was gone, most of the roof trusses were goneskies. you could make the jiprock wall sheets touch each other by pressing on the centres (wall frames had been eaten) They were asking $235k for the joint tooo! The little asian real extate agent (who was a bitch) tried to tell us for 14 thousand we could have it all fixed, the gutters fixed and live in it or rent it out..... yeah.... right..... land value in the area is roughly $170k. Our idea was to gut the place, and start with 4 walls and a slab and redo the whole lot. Only downfall was we needed the bank to lend us $60-70k ontop of the purchase price to rebuild the house.... that wasnt going to happen! We also were only looking at offering $180 MAX! the house is still on the market...... (5 months later... had already been on the market for about 12 months) and they have $210k NO OFFERS as the price! The advert even states its ready to move into. some people hey!
  14. now thats what i call overpowered! any pictures of it with the s/c hemi 6 in there? What engine and s/c setup?
  15. midnight spares FJ holden running on empty Vanishing point days of thunder mad max 1&2 (beyond thunderdome isnt really car orientated!) Gone in 60 seconds Fast and furious movies are good entertainment value, aslong as you don't listen to the "technical" speak.... they double up on things, and say things together that don't make sense (but hey! its a movie, right!?) Transporter 1 &2 are awesome movies. and who can forget "cars" hahaha, loved it. I have a big drawer full of old car movies, but my mind is a blank apart from those ones up the top!
  16. nothing like a good helping of good old GMH steel! my weekend toy- 1972 LJ torana and the biggest "gathering" of old and some new muscle Ive ever seen (muscle car cruise #5) waiting to get into white water place at penrith, there was just hundreds of hot cars sitting in the line (both infront and behind us!) (this was before half of the cars turned up! at WSID)
  17. i will be replacing the bearings in an SC14 in the next few months... Thought it had bent vanes, but turns out its just f@$ked bearings... Will let you know when i get around to it! Hit it with an oxy torch and see what happens.
  18. shouldnt be too bad to get it regoed, aslong as there is no visible rust (well atleast none they can look at and claim as structural) No rust holes! is a big one, if its gone through a panel, then there is no hope of getting it regoed without a patch job over it (temp obviously) If the car will pass a braking test, visual inspection etc. Then you shouldnt need to worry about who the mechanic is. Id help you out, but all of our friends/shops are on the central coast
  19. ^ i like that one!
  20. you have to be kidding me? FG and sexy shouldnt go in the same sentence. Its one the most under designed (or over depending on how you look at it) cars I have ever seen! Nothing flows on them, its all just whack this here, whack this there. They are a general mash up of about 4 different pre-existing cars and they are just generally ugly. Look at the lines of the cabin and the rear.... FFS ford can't even make a unibody construction ute! Its one of those "love it or hate it" things, but next time you see them on the street, look at them from a design point of view, and see how "sexy" you think they are! Anyway, enough of the one eyed views (mine included!) back to the ugly cars.
  21. who on earth makes them then? i just assumed it was a sirion in disguise!
  22. Low pass, high pass and full pass are what you are referring to with the switches. I really don't get what Trav is on about, sentence structure and some clarity might help.... I'm saying that the sub will not work as intended (assuming most people will only run it via the RCA outlets, and not from a dedicated "sub woofer" outlet from the HU, assuming your headunit has one) actually, now I think about it, you would have to wire the sub up as a SPEAKER, via the LF/LR RF/RR speaker outlets as you couldnt simply run an RCA lead directly to a sub. Which means exactly what I said, it would work as one large conical speaker (anyone for a bunch of 10" speakers?) If anyone is stil thinking about what I wrote think of it this way- Your amp recieves the sound signals via the RCA leads which have "plug" type ends, I'm not 100% but I'm fairly sure these only cary a tiny electrical signal, which the amplifier then changes to a stronger signal, which it then dispatches via the + or - terminals of the outlet side of the amplifier. These are generally "terminal" ends that attach to the amp. The two leads (usually heavy gauge speaker type wire) then run to the sub and can be connected to them in numerous ways. So in order to even "try" to wire it up minus the amp, you have two choices. 1. Hack the ends off a set of RCA leads (you could probably buy a cheap amp for the cost of a decent set of RCAs anyway... so why bother) 2. Jack into the rear speaker wiring and run the sub from the + and - signals that come from the headunit for the speakers, which WILL make the sub run on full pass, this is, effectively, only using it as a large normal speaker. The general use for subs, as you all know, is to fill in the bass areas of sound, leaving the speakers to effectively fill in the midrange. on another note, bass without midrange is useless, so many people have stereos that only have bass, they cram their boots full of subs and massive powered amps, then throw in a couple of "mid price range" 6" or 6x9" speakers and just drive around with the stero duff duffing all day long... Whats the point?
  23. I really don't think that astra is all that ugly compared to some of the new "sports models" Look at the WRX, the new mazdas, the FG falcon is an absolute shocker! to say the least!
  24. transmission tunnel... brakes, diff, suspension?
  25. Is the accelerator linkage a cable setup? Shouldnt be too hard to make a simple "twist" bracket that will run to on of the linkages (there is a connecting rod between the two linkages by the looks of it)
