  1. yup, I can't wait to get out and see it when I get a chance. I really like Bana and it looks like it is a REALLY good doco on the long term relationship between his car and his matess
  2. The only drama there is you still have a 2nd hand engine. I contemplated buying a 20v halfcut when Karlies engine was on the way out, but I decided that putting a 70+ thousand km engine into the car wasnt the best all round option as you don't know how its treated and how long it will last (although in 90% of the cases it might go for another 100thou+kms.) If he spends the extra now and has someone freshen up the motor then he will know its 100% new, and after a run in, can lean on it with confidence. The block wont necessarily have to be removed, if the bores are fine (no lip or marks deep enough to catch a finger nail) I managed to rebuild karlies 16V in the car, light power hone, knocked the mains off from underneath and slipped the pistons out through the top. It would have been easier to rebuild out of the car, but the pain of removing the gearbox and auxillaries far outweighed the hassle of stuffing around with it on the hoist.
  3. depends on how much you can do yourself. I rebuilt Karlies 4AGE 16v for under 1k easily. New rings and bearings, full set of exhaust valves, head tidied up etc etc. I did everything bar the head reco myself (was done by a friends shop) The head cost 350 for the valve stems, hot tub, head skim and set of valves Parts are resonably cheap, its the labour that kills things for most people.
  4. MYCOFN on a black VS maloo ute, gave me a giggle.
  5. I was talking more about the legalities of engine swaps without engineering (in nsw) or "mod plates" (in QLD) But seems he has done the best thing and written to the proper authorities.
  6. So your the bloke the cops have been looking for :) Today is going really really slow. I just want it to end, so I can go home and play silly buggers in the new house!
  7. In NSW it wouldnt be TOO much of an issue- eg. You can fit an imported LS2 or even an LS7 crate motor to an australian built (not that there are any other kind) VX SS commodore with no major problems with the RTA even though that engine was never fitted to the car here in australia, all you need to do is get a blue slip for the engine number change. (That was the main jist of their response when questioned about that issue. Thats changing from a 5.7litre to a 6 litre engine, different inductions etc etc.) Changing to fuel injection wouldn't be a drama either legal wise aslong as it complies with the plated ADRs on the chassis (fitting a later model engine rather than an earlier one) If it was me, I would most likely do the swap based around the fact that it is an A series for an A series and I really don't see how pear shaped it could go in the case of insurance, unless it was a massive payout for damages you caused, then they wouldnt bother investigating the engine if it was the same capacity and a similar model
  8. yup, we are still trying to pay some seven and 14 day accounts from december, none of my recent logistics invoices have been paid (leaves me with lots of angry truckies to deal with) We are pretty much halfway up the brown creek, trying to paddle with a couple paddle pop sticks.
  9. my omg is that my work is screwed financially, they are now talking 4 day weeks and closing the factory for april due to it only, realistically, being a 2 week month for us. we have a backlog until early october, but nothing much past that and no new orders coming in. might be time to jump ship I think. I can always go back to doing mechanical work at a few different places or on the side for cash, BUT in this sort of economical climate, people don't like to spend on cars, or I could go work as a labourer for one of the family in the building side of things, good money, hard work, just a bit up and down with the weather etc etc. Anyone need a marketing assistant, few years experience, halfway through a degree? I could easily get a job in the CBD for similar money to what I'm on now, but I would go insane travelling in there everyday and working outdoors again might be a good change.... I'm just scared shitless at the moment, I have a mortgage to worry about, we have enough in the bank to get us through 3 months of repayments, but not much past that
  10. I might be wrong, but it sounds like a classic case of emotional abuse in the making. Generally its their of making you feel worthless enough that you stay with them even though they are the worthless individual (of piece of shit, whichever tickles your fancy) It usually comes from their own personal doubts and flaws. I'm in my third year at uni, I chose to go because it was going to help with the career path I had chosen, so it swings both ways. I know people who are dumb as shit carters horses and still go on to make something decent of themselves and I know others who are the opposite (ie. uni graduates who go on to prison sentences and become the dregs of society) University, brains and success don't always go hand in hand, it comes down to the person. You seem like a pretty smart girl Lexxi and someone that wouldnt take too much crap. If he keeps on, give him an upper cut and tell him to get over himself. You will find what you want to do eventually, and I'm sure if you really want to be, you will be successful. thats the end of my motivational piece! :D WGMG is a blackout at 6.30 in the morning in the middle of getting ready to go to work (in the dark) then having it come back on just before you are ready to leave meaning Karlie had to do her hair and makeup which meant we left late which meant (as usual) every slow driving prick was in the way on the road to work! ARRRRRGGGGH!
  11. man, I should start entering look alike competitions!
  12. Here is a picture of me and MissSX (I'm obviously the good looking one, the other is Karlie) :D We were just leaving for a friends wedding and someone decided they wanted photos.... This one was later on in the day, at the reception and one from last year at muscle car cruise 5
  13. and they never accept computer dramas as an excuse for not having an assesment in on time! I found the best way at uni, is to unplug something from the printer, claim its not working, get a slip from the IT guys saying there was a problem and get a couple extra hours if you are running late on an assesment. What grinds my gears is being back at work.
  14. I don't think it was a single thread, I think it was alot of things culminating with the "OMG guess what happened today" thread being closed due to a bunch of ramblings. I'm honestly, yet to find a forum where everyone agrees on what "off topic" is actually for. I always see it as somewhere that all the weird internet happenings (eg: stupid peoples actions on other forums that become internet sensations), any personal sort of stuff (like the post your face thing) and the general sort of stuff that doesnt fit anywhere else. But with everything, I suppose there needs to be a limit to what goes on, someone just needs to define the happy medium.
  15. depends on the car! New cars all need windscreen sealant, older cars using the old rubbers when replacing the screens need sealant aswell. The general rule with most models of older cars (I'm talking pre 80s) is that new rubbers should work fine with no sealant, I personally would use sealant no matter what, but NEVER use sikaflex to put a window in, only use proper windscreen sealant. If you arent confident enough to put it in, find a mobile windscreen bloke, should only cost $100 or so to have him put your screen in. If you do it yourself and get a bit messy with the sealant, then it dissolves with a spray of WD40. (always handy!) On a side note (seem it was brought up) Roping in screens only works for certain window rubbers aswell, but it is a really easy thing to do once you have done it a few times, its just really hard to explain, ALOT easier to demonstrate on the spot.
  16. Vault wheels.... enough said. Alot of them have problems with the bead sealing due to the flaking chrome, others cop a single pot hole and buckle. Id be finding some new/nicer wheels.
  17. Yup, ajax down the inlets. Its ok for a quick fix like bedding in the rings at bathurst (from memory it was in the old monaros), we used it to stop a friends 308 from using as much oil on the way back from a long trip, was enough to roughen the bores and stop the smoking till he got home to rebuild it. but all it does in the end is put vertical scores in the bores (hey i can rhyme!) and isnt great for longevity of the engine for obvious reasons. The cigarette paper is a new one!
  18. Its the right line of thought at the moment though, a small-mid sized RWD car with a decent performace package, 5 seats and enough room would sell very well in a better financial climate, and would probably sell well in the current climate (smaller engines, FI, reduction in running costs etc) and toyota really need a new RWD car, they have nothing decent in the line up at the moment and things like the TRD aurion would have sold alot better had they been RWD.
  19. some girls are just like that, my ex played the "I'm taking the pill but actually not taking it so I can get prego and trap you" trick on me. Ended badly for her, was a bit emotional on my side because she really messed with my head ( I saw my future dissapearing like sand through my fingers) But yeah, I'm just awe struck at the fact she can break up with you over you not wanting a baby. If it was that easy for her to walk away from you then how on earth did she think having a baby with you was a good idea? She obviously wasnt fully commited to an egalitarian relationship. There is someone better out there mate, after my ex, I found my current partner, we are just moving into our first house and Ive never been happier! Chin up mate! Chris.
  20. my OMG is that my house is pretty much painted (walls and ceilings) just need to finish the architraves and doors, and then its on to the outside! so much work to do, but its so freaking worth it. We closed the doors on the business and on an eleven year long chapter in our lives, but we still have all the gear (hoists, bender etc) so we I will have a hoist in my new shed, and the old man will set up the rest in his. Ive got pictures of me and miss SX and our house to throw up later, but our net sucks at home, and I'm not back at work until monday! Karlies corolla shat a manifold gasket too! bitch of a thing!
  21. The wedding has been booked for ages, and there is no hope in hell of getting it moved. We were hoping it might come a week or two early (obviously with no complications) so it gives her a month to recover. But only time will tell I suppose!
  22. congratulations? or not? I don't know the situation! our close friends had their 12 week ultrasound on wednesday. they had been trying for ages and decided to stop trying as the timing was getting too close to their wedding at the end of the year. Now the baby is due two weeks before their wedding and Karlie and I are on baby sitting duty at the wedding. :lolcry:
  23. The buicks are fairly reliable, transmissions are a bit of a weak point if you intend to give it a flogging. Ecotechs (VS onwards) are probably slightly more reliable if treated well, can take a good flogging when need be. My parents bought a VS execo with 150k on the clock, drove it till 290k and then my brother put another 60 thousand kms of thrashing the balls of it, on top and it still didnt use a drop of oil or water. If you are looking at a VR, just check the strut towers for any fracturing (common if they have been given a flogging on bad roads, or have had a "hard life") Also be weary of KMs if you are buying from someone that could be a bit dodgy, there are that many low km commodores at the wreckers, and a cluster swap is a straight forward thing, so the KMs on the dash might not match the car. But thats another bonus really, there are LOTS of cheap parts about if you need them. They are what they are, comfy to ride in, build quality is decent and they get decent economy in the right conditions, good tow with, plenty of boot space etc etc.
  24. It would be a lot of work for very little gain for the owners/admin of rollaclub though. And with such a varied (in terms of location) range of members, it would be one big nightmare. If you are chasing club rego, it would be worth simply phoning your local clubs and joining up.
