The Govt was sticking it to the RTA over those exemptions. they were handing them out like lolly pops for the last two years, but before that they were knocking everyone back (even if they had a legitimate reason ie. only one car in the family, work purposes etc) They can't find a happy medium, its the government, they f@$k everything up eventually. I don't belive in banning all high powered cars. I do think that an IQ test should be a pre-requisite for licencing though! (only joking there, IQ tests wouldnt work, idiots would still get through) Education doesnt work, thats been proven. I went to a bunch of seminars on road tolls and young deaths etc, and it honestly didnt really stick with me for long. Ive been lucky in the fact I learnt to drive young, had lots of time behind the wheel on race tracks (in karts and cars) But it swings both ways, some people who have experience still decide to push it too hard on the roads (I'm guilty) because they think they can, so training isnt always the answer either. Its one of those things, I heard it described by an older guy once (ex racecar driver, wont mention his name) that driving on the road for most youths is like a right of passage, its soemthing you live through and look back at when you are older with "god that was stupid" or you die, simple as that. People have been crashing cars and writing themselves off since cars were mainstream, its not nice but its true. I don't think they are ever going to stop it. wow. thats a spiel.

they are alot less strict with the "it has to have a cat" laws in the US, the only states that are nazi on it seem to be nazi....i mean california and New York. The rest seem to let alot slide (from what I've come across on alot of american forums I dig around on) -
under or over? most cars don't have the complete under side heat shields anymore anyway (usually removed if exhaust is changed or repaired) The upper shields (between the exhaust and the floorpan) do a little, but not a whole lot. I can't remember off the top of my head whether or not there are any lines directly above the exhaust. Just check the heat shield for any loose or rusted bolts/nuts, see if its touching anywhere. Remove it as a last resort I would say.

hotdog mufflers have a cylindrical "baffle", if they collapse they can vibrate around as the inner section seperates from the outer and bounces around. To check the cat, use a palm or rubber mallet and give it a good bash around, if its on its way out or already gone, it will sound a bit like a maracca. Must be the season for rattles, I still need to get under the seca and see where the exhaust is touching, I'm 99% sure the rear engine mount is broken and causing the rattle at certain RPM when the exhaust gets enough movement/vibration to touch the upper heat shieldin just after the flex pipe.

We had a giant malamute rock up on my parents door step one night, our cat (kitten at the time) wasnt too fond of her! We hung around out the front with her (dog was female) for an hour, she didnt want to go, so we took her for a walk around the neighbourhood to see if she would go to a house/home. While we were out (we= karlie and me) a group of kids were walking towards us (it was about 11pm at night) and the dog ran to get between us and the group and then growled at them and stood its ground until we had completely passed.... was kinda cool! she walked with us the whole couple blocks, no lead or anything, just heeled really well. I ended up ringing a vets emergency number, and he told me that he didnt want it there overnight as they howl and carry on and when I went back out the front to find the dog to lock her in the yard for the night, she was gone, obviously had decided to go home! -
I run fully polished inlet manifolds on my "other" car with zero clear coat. It doesnt get driven daily, but it gets good runs everynow and then, aslong as you keep up the use of a decent metal polish (such as mirrorfinish or purple polish) it wont dull. Most guys I know don't bother to clear coat their polished alloy (if they do, you can purchase high-temp clear for certain applications) Just some food for thought mate :)

I used to breed guppies when I was 12/13, had a tank with about 50-100 of the bastards at one stage, you can get some really cool colour mixes trhough selective breeding (and they are live bearers so no problems with eggs etc) it was always good fun. If you leave the fry (baby fish) in the tank (assuming it doesnt have much in the way of hiding places) the parents will eat them too. But yeah, I used to feed some of my fry to my fighting fish, they loved it. My OMG is that we started moving into the house, soooo much to move and soooo much to do. Tomorrow is full on moving furniture day (entertainment unit etc) so it will be alot more houselike! -
Well considering only one of the 4 administrators had been online in 4 months.... Trav, you don't have to chrome your cam covers either, they polish up better than chrome :( Carbies make it look alot nicer too (IMO) the injection and associated wiring always seems to look a mess.

Will A Ke70 Survive A Trip Adelaide To Sydney?
orangeLJ replied to Tally's topic in Automotive Discussion
yup, cable ties, 100mile racing tape (fibre tabe), some electrical tape, a tube of high temp silicon, some rags and some chemiweld. That and a general tool kit (ie. shifter, spanners to suit the car, maybe a socket or 5 + ratchet, screwdrivers, pliers and some side cutters) The only Other thing I would recommend is to change the oil and filter once you are in sydney for a good drive back. cheers, Chris -
On a side note, No one that I have come across (on the central coast) sells E85, I can buy it by the drum like I do my C10 etc. but not from a pump. anyone know how to find the closest place?

congratulations! I better not let Karlie (missSX) see this, she gets clucky too easily! -
sounds like humidity blisters in the paintwork, can be caused by bad prep work or just a shitty painter with a crappy setup (ie. water trap not working) As for Lexxi, find someone who appreciates you. Your bloke sounds like a pain in the arse and just not worth the effort.
-
Sounds like the internals have collapsed. Later model corollas use a rubber/fabric strap to hold the base of the seat up, might be the same in the older ones too? Pull the seat out, flip it over and have a gander, usually if its broken a support you will see it. If it doesnt have that sort of support, then Id just take it to a trimmer and get them to re-pack the seat base (remove the cover and replace the foam packing)

If they are straight, just need rechroming, then it shouldnt cost more then $200-$300 per bar. I had a rear bar (for a mysterious holden model) done a few months ago and it set me back just under $200. the real expense comes when you need a full restoration of the bars (like what Lexxi is on about) That price would more then likely include reshaping and rechroming of the bars. To give you some more perspective, 2 tail light surrounds, 2 headlight surrounds and a front bar (not for a corolla, but something of the same vintage) set us back just over $800. That was to repair, reshape, re-polish and re-annodize the surrounds, and to straighten and rechrome the front bar.

as in its sagged inwards? or you broke the seat from the rails?
-
haha, I thought the same thing Hiro, but wasnt sure how to question what she wrote without sounding like I was being aggressive or demeening. Are you on the brakes when it makes the noise (ie. braking through the corner?) or doe it happen even when you roll round the corner. Does it change note at different speeds? (ie. ride a round about really slow, then a bit faster, does the frequency or pitch change?) Is there any feedback through the steering to suggest vibrations? (usually wheel bearings will give you some form of vibration through the steering when they clonk around when turning.)
-
depending where the bend is, its also legal to cut and shut the chassis rail. There is however a certain way to go about it (staggered cuts, extra prep work etc) but it is entirely legal (well last I checked it was in NSW) But best bet for you it would seem, would be to go to a few panel beaters with some detailed photos and ask for quotes. Then make a decision.

anyone want a whole AE112R? :P you could join this exclusive bretheren! lol.

Quick fix would be some silastic (red high temp silicone) wipe the area clean, apply to the thread, and away you go. is it a push and turn or screw in fitting? is it leaking from where it threads into the box, or is it leaking from the actual cable?
