  1. Well I suppose I should put up the last lot of photos I took of the car, bit different to how it used to look! copy paste from another forum- well I suppose I should put up some pictures of the finished product- interior with new carpet, shifter boot and handbrake boot, also new kick panels engine bay- new catch can, new catch can braided lines and fittings, new fuel lines, fuel regulator, and econoclamps (can't quite afford braided banjo fittings at the moment) and the thing I worked on in the lead up the most- and the woman that lets it happen- Also had a bit of a play with my new DSLR before we left, just need to sort the photos and then I'll whack some up! but this is one shot, straight off the camera and untouched- :D Only things "left" to do to the car now is to finish the sheetmetal dash facia and whack it in. let me know what you think of the finished product guys/gals, its been a rough couple months to get it back to a decent stage :) couple more pictures- I think the new carpet has made a massive difference to the interior, this is what it used to look like- our "stable" will be +1 next year (LC GTR) The green one is my old mans legit XU-1, full resto (5 years worth) finished 2 years ago. Purple on is the newly finished trackcar, hasnt turned a wheel on the track yet (can't get time off work to take it out) Well havent done much with the torana, driven it a few times since toranafest though! love getting it out for a cruise now its "complete" still have a few things to sort out, need to buy a -6 cap to fit over the drain on the catch can, need to sort out the alarm wiring and stuff and get the new dash finished (ordered my last gauge from the states last week) Really need to put a ryco filter back on it though, Fitted a donaldson one (freebie from work) but they are designed for diesel engines and vertical mounting, so no drainback valve=clacky noises on startup! Might give it a run up to newcastle in the morning (going to auto one to pick up some rares parts) and just cause I love this pic
  2. Well something went wrong with the post I mjust tried! so I'll start again, Havent been on RC in a while, but heres the latest update on the ute.... ITS REGOED! Copy/paste from another forum- :D Dog trying out the bench seat a few weeks ago- Interior sans dog- GTS dash, black vinyl dyed door trims, no arm rests, bench seat, grey velour headlining, head unit in the glove box, single 6" speaker just chilling on the trans tunnel (4" speakers to go in kick panels eventually... when I make some!) no carpet for the minute, will go in once I fix some leaking issues. The car mats were ones I got for free (wouldnt use something with FUSION written accross it otherwise!) and keep my feet from getting too warm when the floor heats up form the exhaust! 225/65/14 nankang sonar rear tyres, $60 ebay specials. 175/60/14 fronts, were off Karlie first corolla (brand spankers still) I took them off it when we sold it. They are a bit stretched, but fine for the minute. The carport finally gave up so got pulled down (18 months in the weather, so lasted pretty well I reckon!) final wash on the morning before the blue slip- bluey- as you can see by this picture, Karlie and the dog helped ALOT during the building process...... NOT! Second maiden voyage (I did the first just me and the dog, Karlie was out wedding dress shopping with her sister!) and final pictures for the minute, Dinner on the waterfront at Gosford and how I spent the other half of my saturday- VT needed some TLC! lol. All up we drove about 150km in the ute on the weekend, a few little issues- Needs a wheel alignment Needs bigger front tyres Need to rebuild the carby (heaps doughy, well more than a 253 should be!) Need to put a clutch in it (not a drama for me, but karlie can only just drive it as the pedal has to be on the floor) Need to pull and paint some bits of the dash that I installed in a rush. Need to adjust the headlights (might fit my H$ holders while I'm at it) needs an alarm and central locking! lol but I'm over the moon, drove it to work today! :D needs to be lower too, dog is going to struggle getting in and out in the future. Ive got a dirty idea of throwing airbags in the bum (so I can still tow with the thing) First I need to get enough grunt into the thing to tow anything. after christmas its 5 litre time to get us by until I can get enough cash together (12 months minimum) to go LS1 (engineering, etc) I'm thinking (after backwards forwards emails with MRLXSS to bounce ideas around! haha.. ohh and approval from Karlie) early pre-pol if possible 308 block (aussie pattern) VN-VS V8 donor car (can be smashed or blown motor) I'm going to take the top end from the donor onto the spare block, then use all the aircon and Power steering stuff from the donor and adapt it to the ute. So thats the current plan of attack, seems I can get a donor car for 1000-1500 pretty easily (less if crashed) If anyone knows of one cheap, let me know! will prob consider down south or up north too if need be
  3. A fresh slap of paint will make this a very tidy car. Congrats on how well it came together in the end. The red one was great and all, but this version is ace.
  4. Nope, Godparents are simply a term of endearment. In order for someone to take custody of a child in the case of being orphaned they must either be the next of kin (and a suitable parent obviously) or be legally stated in a will. So unless you have a will that outlines who you want to be the legal gaurdian of your kids in the event of your death, then its up to the other siblings (if old enough) grandparents, brothers sisters etc.
  5. Congrats! Why is it that in most ofl the photos of freshies Ive seen lately they are all taking on the "boxer block" look with their hands! haha. My best mates little girl is just on 10 months, funniest little thing ever, its definitely more fun when you can give them back though! haha.
  6. Not much to update really! It hasnt moved for about 2 months, Ive been too busy with working on the house and trying to get the ute finished. After tax time it should get a bit of love! Its hard to think it has basically been out about 5 times in 12 months......
  7. good ol' 3 speed, non syncro boxes in early holdens are great fun to learn how to change gears PROPERLY haha. you really feel spoilt when you get back into a syncro-boxed car.
  8. Bought something different today for pocket change (well, change anyway, I had enough change in my change jars to pay for it! haha) has a disc brake rear end, factory air con setup, full set of stockies with decent tyres (fitted) pedders suspension that isnt too old (lowered springs etc) some nolathane bushes, interior etc etc. Also threw in the bonnet I wanted too! so lots of bits. So for $200 its a ripper of a deal!
  9. rebuild a smallport 16v and throw that in, will outperform the 20v you will get for the same price.
  10. I was doing the inlet gaskets on my VT and as I was doing the internal studs back up in the plenum, I managed to drop a nut straight down one of the inlets, straight into the head where it came to rest ontop of a closed inlet valve.... Bit of string and a magnet got it out in the end, but it f@$king scared me! if the valve was open, it might have ended up a head off job!
  11. www.twincam.org.au is probably a better bet then here for late model gear.
  12. Trevs on the money, in up-specced models they had air vents for air con and heating. Its just a little glued in cover, but it will stay until I get air con sorted. The ashtray goes in with the dash lower section, which reminds me I need to paint the ashtray face to make it tidy. (hooray for a change holder!) Windscreen and rear window are going in next week too! exciting!
  13. Stokesy (trimmer) came over on sunday morning and fitted the hoodlining and B pillar trim! looks unreal! Finished off most of the dash issues now still need to cut and patch this mess though- stereo is now in here- need to make a cover for it too, so nothing smashes it around. any idea whats meant to be here?? It just looks blank and boring, like something is meant to go there
  14. I'm not that worried, it wont be my eyes! hahaha. most torries have black centres on the surrounds, and they were originally painted satin black, so maybe thats the deal.
  15. factory standard wash a shiny annodized finish, so it should be sweet.
  16. more done- Masked and painted the front of the radiator support again to get rid of the overspray (no photos though) then started on the lights- highs- Called it a night after that. Put Karlie to work on the sunday scrubbing and polishing the front bar, she did a wicked job and it came up pretty good. I'm planning to pull it off and rust convert+paint the inside and brackets, but with some more help from Karlie I threw it on and bolted it all up. we must be a real white car kind of household- Then I made a start on the passengers side- and while I was working away on the ute, karlie and the dog were obviously relaxing- at the end of the weekend it looked something like this- I also spent some time polishing up the rear bar ready to go on once I cut and weld the brackets up-
  17. Just buy a roll of cheapo exhaust wrap and wrap the exhaust with it (not good for longevity of the manifold/s but will work until you swap it out) ACL heatshield is cheap as chips too. Tidy setup though.
  18. I'm just checking out that proutes now, never heard of it before you mentioned it! Thanks for the compliments guys! The torry is definitely a little wider then standard (wheel trac wise anyway!) The sidepipe makes it f@$king loud too! (only just louder then the holley red in the boot though! noisy f@$king fuel pumps they are!) as for the ute.... I needed to repaint the front apron as I found two problems with it. the first was that I missed some spots when the car was painted, so the bottom of the apron was still in primer, and I didnt blow any up around the headlight frames/blinker frames etc. then when I was cutting/buffing, I was cutting a run out and rubber through the white to the rpimer. so I roughed it up and hit it again on the weekend, came out heaps better- wee bit of overspray to deal with, but pressure pack will be fine to touch up the rad support, driveway swept clean! haha. also threw on the bonnet rubber kit to stop it from touching down- going to give it a few days to harden up, then I will throw the front together, get the headlights and blinkers working etc. Ive got two grilles now, so I'm going to paint one silver and one black so I can change them out whenever Karlie feels like a change! haha. Hoodlining should be in this week.
  19. Yeah twin headlight prem front actually, thats kind of funny, we call it a twin headlight front in the holden world, but in the corolla world its a "quad headlight" front. I suppose both make sense in their own ways, but just got me thinking! Ive got about 6 sets of headlight surrounds, just trying to sort out which ones are the best condition to put on.
  20. Purple LJ is a track car, looks like this now-
  21. Alright I know this is rollaclub and its for corollas, but car enthusiasts are car enthusiasts and this sort of crime affects us all and catching a car theif is a good thing for everyone. This was posted on another forum and I know some of you guys are up in QLD and I was hoping some of you could pass it onto other forums etc to get the word out as far and wide as possible. I sure hope Albert gets his car back in one piece...... Details as follows provided by the cars owner: Wanted to let our members know that my 1978 SS Torana Hatch was stolen From my Garage here at Banksia Beach early this morning (1st April) at approx 1.00am. Have attached a photograph of the car and would ask if anyone spots this little Gem If they could call myself (Albert) 34089775 or Caboolture police on 54950444. The Incident report number with Police is QP 1000364578. The Rego on the vehicle is S.18539. The Engine No 308H17285 Chasis/Vin ALX012780M The Vehicle is an SS with A9X Detail. White body & Black Bonnet with Air Scoop Two red SS transfers on the rear. Original 308 Holden engine, Standard 4 speed box with a Ford 9” The interior is in a Grey leather with Holden Statesman Interior lights. One Shattered Torana Lover Albert Tarn As you can see, it was a pretty nice torry and the owner had put alot of work into the car over a few years. The interior is going to be one of the biggest identifiers, not many people spring for leather interior and epecially in grey. anyway, if you guys could pass this on, it would be great. Cheers, Chris
  22. Her and the dog have claimed it as their own, what can I say, I live with two females! haha. The main reason we bought the ute was the dog and so I can tow the boat etc round (the VT tows just fine, but its just a pain if we want to take the dog or if we need extra space to put the wakeboards, skis etc.)
  23. Thanks guys. Yeh the ROH's came up cheap, were meant to have good tyres and fit perfectly.... didnt work out that way! Ive got tyres and the new smaller outer rim sections to get them up to scratch, just havent had the time to do anything!
  24. Just little things Jon, Ive just been slack and havent repainted the apron, once its done, the outside will be basically done aside from painting the inside of the ute back, going to do that with "chip coat" and some marine carpet for the dog. Main costs will be the hoodlining ($200ish) new windscreen and fit rear screen with sealant ($150) carpet ($150) and then about 1k for rego and insurance. All up I have spent bugger all, ute cost me $600 + $400 in fuel and an overnight stay. Paint and primer supplies (sand paper etc) was about $500 all up Parts another $500 (ball joint, repair sections, new tailgate, lowering blocks, oil pressure sender) I got lucky with the ute though, its running a supra 5 speed already, so no dramas using it as a daily, also running extractors and a full 2.5" stainless steel exhaust! (sounds ok even!) Lowered front suspension and relatively new shocks all round. Gotta love ebay sometimes, found it on there and negotiated a deal off ebay.
  25. lowering blocks in- wire wheeled, rust converted and painted the floor with epoxy enamel (rust proof stuff) finished- painted the glove box and put it in incoming tunes- Thats about where it is at, Ive got a brand new tailgate to prime and paint and I'm planning to repaint the front apron at the same time (next weekend) Then I can throw the whole front together and the outside is basically done! I'm going to have two grilles, one silver and one black, as I can't make up my mind! Ultimately I want to get a set of FR simmons for it, but the sunrasyias will work well for now. but its coming together, trimmer is coming to do the hoodlining this week, windows in next week. And just for old times sake, this is the reason I became a member here- This was my/my missus' old AE92 SX
