Sell the chrome wheels on ebay, get your money back. Put that money into a savings account, put current Seca on the market. Combine money from selling car, with money from selling ugly wheels + some extra savings from casual work. Buy $2000-$3000 SX seca or hatch and never look back. To be honest, it sounds like you don't have much experience in the way of mechanical work, so even a basic (4age) engine conversion is probably out of the question, plus there is the associated costs. Buying a 4AGE model AE9X chassised car is the only way you will get a decent level of performance, be P plate legal and not waste your money

has this progressed anywhere though?

I think the issue is how the chooks are treated... I must admit, I always buy free range eggs, its a little more expensive, but for the fact that the things don't spend their whole life in a footxfoot box.... I feel a little better about myself. I can't be the only one who can't hack driving past those trucks, packed full of live chickens in tiny little crates, FFS they are on their way to become tasty roast chickens.... atleast give them some space and a bit of cover, so many are already dead in the trucks from the wind/cold etc.

I wouldnt be using the tow hook to hold the car down on a trailer, that is, unless you can somehow manage to fully compress your cars suspension.... Straps over two+ wheels, one round the diff to hold it back in case of an emergency, the car should be able to move up and down freely, putting the car weight+trailer weight into the leaf springs of the average trailer is a recipe for an accident over big bumps etc.

If you want a bit neater finish than rivets, some nutserts in the bonnet and some dome headed allen key bolts looks good too, but that said, rivets are easier and probably close to being as neat. Would be interesting to see some real comparative temp data (plotted) of the temp with and without the scoop, its probably something alot of torry guys have never really thought about either
-
Any more info on the conversion? what mounts did you use, tunnel clearance, who did your harness?
-
That actually looks pretty mean! White on white, maybe a bit of a glass job to make it look "one piece" and you'll have a good looking thing going on! the lines of the scoop match the car pretty well, the KE70 is, for all intensive purposes, the same boxy shape as an LH/LX torry

Totally approve! Pulling my HX ute off the road in October to do a similar conversion (LS1)

Yeah there are many different sized reverse cowls. the original size is obviously the most common, but some aftermarket joints do the bigger ones to accomodate guys running taller manifolds etc etc. ohh, got a link to the ducting?
-
finding a relatively cheap, safe ducting is going to be the hard part, most of the flexible plastics are highly flammable or non heat resistant. Maybe some foiled aircon duct? haha, light too!

Thanks guys! Well, I was tinkering with cars from around 12, bought a $350 95 charade at 15 as a first car, got my L's, bought the torana for $1000 from the wreckers (was a rust free shell, rod out the side of the block etc) The charade was only ever meant to be a learner car, something small, manual and cheap. (BTW, I sold it once I got my VK Calais, paid $150 for the commo, sold the charade for $4500! lol) Started to cleanthe torana up, quick engine build, downdraught falcon weber, suspension rebuild and a quick slap of paint and new carpet.... Well, once the paint turned out better than expected, and once I took a big interest in doing things myself, we kind of kept going! That was 8 years ago now... haha. only took 7 months from start to registration originally! Then came a raft of other changes, triple SU's, interior changes etc etc. Ive been through a heap of dailies over the years, but the torana will always be my toy!
-
Thanks! special car for a spethal person? haha. Ive got a video of the first startup that I need to downsize, heaps of photos too! now I just need to sort the brakes then its dyno time (hooray.... more hours spend drilling jets, swapping emulsion tubes etc etc etc lol)
-
I approve of the torana related additives :D

If your alarm had motion sensor functions, it wouldnt be too hard to have it trip a relay that started a camera, would take some effort though with soldering/wiring etc.
-
The cop car thing is for exctly what you think. It gives them the space to stand at the drivers window and if need be back away at speed (if driver pulls a gun/knife etc) If I'm being pulled over for doing nothing wrong (simply because of what I'm driving) I'll tend to park as close to the lane markings as possible, makes them a bit nervous and not as intent on trying to find defects lol

you CAN polish normal steel to a high shine finish, but steel rusts, regardless of what you do (clear coat will still allow the oxidised sections to develop under it and you can guess the rest. (I polished a set of calipers once.... I learnt by my error) anyway... Try some of the HOK effekts paints They have a couple really good "chrome" type paints that will last. Not cheap, but the best available.

needs a "warning: keep pets and small children clear of inlet" sticker :) that turbo's a big sucker!

How do they empty the mail box in a wheelchair? lol actually, from some of the driving Ive seen them do... I wouldnt be surprised if there are a few accident victims in their employment! haha, either that or mentally disabled!
-
I think that if the chassis had been involved in that accident, the story would be completely different. VERY luck that it peeled the body away and would have allowed the engine to move downwards. Hitting something lower that would give an upward angle would have well and truly ʞ©$ɟed them up IMO. Its still an UGLY POS with a magna engine, regardless of how it crashes. lol

Put some decent tyres on it. My VT sedan was always tail happy and twitchy (much like my VU ute) BUT! Fitted some pirelli Pzero neros to it and even now, with them looking like full slicks (flipped to accomodate for camber wear, so smooth all accross) they are still very grippy. Even the 595 SS's from Federal have been a decent tyre (google Option 1 garage, GREAT pricing on federals) I think its basically a patch loom and thats it for the dash. Google it and you will find a few responses, pretty common changeover.
-
Ive got a 3 window cluster from a VR calais floating about, $40 + post ;) All the commodore utes spit the bum really easily (IRS improved them to a point, but still very tail happy)
-
probably not! lol. its probably a lebbo/wog/lad... I mean comeon... look at the wheels haha

Find an engine that'll make cheaper, easier RELIABLE NA power.. People jam SRs, CAs and all manner of things into old corollas, but an LS should be kept away? lol
