  1. If they put some 1" sill extensions on it, would look even lower, without compromising the undercarriage etc. I like it :) reminds me of Hoskings old goon-
  2. Cheered them on the whole day. the exhaust problem wasn't really fixed though! haha, it sounded like shit all afternoon! haha. Was great to see them finish the race, regardless of where they came, they stuck with it and finished the race. Top job lads!
  3. Had heaps of AE9X's (probably close to 10 now)and a couple KE55s, currently have 2 (AE92 SX hatch and AE93 SX seca).....
  4. depends on your application, lets face it, a KE1/2/3X is not exactly a piece of handling mastery, its weight makes up for a lot, but leaf springs and solid rear arent the pinacles of handling technology. I'd wager that the SR would definitely give up the ghost before the 350 chev in your average burnout competition, but thats only really one application. As for the E85 and huge power thing, thats just going to turn into your average dollar per dollar, V8 vs 4cylinder horspower dick swinging discussion, so probably best we leave that alone :D haha
  5. Thats so me in ten years time (minus the seedy dreds and my ute is a full sided...) lol
  6. Ls V8s are suprisingly light weight for weight (after doing a bit of googling) The SR20DE is around 140kg (so add another 20kg+ for turbo, manifolds etc) The LS1 is only around the 180kg mark and stock for stock, makes more power, plus realistically, you've got a similar distribution of weight front to rear (as both are 4cylinders long) BUT the V8 would have a much better side-side weight distribution than something like an SR. I think its pretty foolish to assume that just because its a V8, that it will mean its a heavy cast iron block etc.
  7. Magnaflows are great for that (quiet when needed, ear bleeding when wanted) I've got them on a few cars :)
  8. Changed my mind here, I'm going to get too involved in this then not be able to just stop replying. tipping my hat and bowing out.
  9. Fair call on most of that, sorry if it came across asshole-ish. Surely there are suburbs outside brisbane that are "cheaper", how many areas do you write off because of a social stigma ("thats a bad area" type of thing) Don't think that I'm doubting that the cost of living is increasing. Yes, houses were once 100k for a 4 bedroom joint on an acre block and milk was 20c a litre. BUT you only earnt 15k in a year back then too, so its kind of proportionate, if we kept up with the CPI wage increase structure, it wouldnt be such a big deal. Personally, I come from what most would call a shithouse childhood, single mum, dropkick abusive biological father etc etc (no need for more info than that really) busted my arse through high school with part time work to build the torana and pay board to my mum and step dad. I jumped straight into full time work out of high school, combined with full time study (all at night) When we bought our house, Karlie and I were on a combined <60odd grand a year (scaled wages as per the award... we were both under the 21 yo ceiling) We just bought in an area we could afford, regardless of the reputation or the stereotypes that went with it. Turns out its a nice area and as I said before, our investment has grown by a substantial amount. Forgive the harshness of what I wrote before, but I have too many people around me, earning more than I do, whinging that they "can't afford to buy a house" yet not actually looking at the alternatives that could get them started in the property market. They all want to buy in the "good suburbs" without really thinking that once upon a time, before they yuppies moved in, that was a cheap suburb too. I think this bit "I'd like to know which decent suburb of Brisbane I can buy a basic house for $250k" kind of illustrates my point. I don't know the market up there, but surely there are areas outside the city that you can consider. To get started, maybe you'll have to look at buying in somewhere a bit less desirable and a bit further away, you wouldnt be the first to do it. We live an hour north of the Sydney CDB (well, more on most days) I commute to work each day (1.5-2hrs each way) so I can earn a little bit more $$ than I would at home on the coast. It's all about making the sacrifices now to benefit ourselves later on. As for the older generations, a large percentage of them don't have a reasonable amount of super to retire (ever)Gen X and gen Y will have worked their entire life with a super contribution scheme, which will essentially allow 90% of us to retire at some stage in our lives (obviously depending on other decisions made along the way) I know a heap of the "baby boomers" that will, essentially, never be able to afford to retire. That's a pretty scary thought. I don't want to make out like everything is peachy now days, but you make the most of what you have, its what they did, its what we all need to do. I think most of the time it's a case of "grass is always greener" syndrome.
  10. There's way too many points that slapped me in the forehead of personal bias presented as objective fact, so I CBF going through and picking them all out to respond, but two points that struck me- My missus and I are both 24 (well, 6 months between us) I've owned my house for 4 years now (bought at 20, missus was 19) and have gained $60k in those 4 years on my investment through the property values in my neighbourhood rising. I own 4 registered cars, a track car and a couple other ongoing projects. My parents bought their first house around 9 years ago and will be paying it off, more than likely, well past their retirement age ( obviously if they sell up that’s different) Anyone car buy a house. The whole "our generation can’t afford it" thing is bullshit. You may not be able to afford a 500k 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom newly built mansion, but you can definitely afford to buy a 2 bedroom, one bathroom house in an OK area for $250k and work your way from there. Everyone expects to be able to jump into their dream home straight off the bat. THAT is the problem. Your parents didn’t buy a mansion for their first house, they would have started out small and WORKED their way into something bigger. I'm sick and tired of hearing excuse after excuse from people <35 who whinge about "how good older generations had it" Sure there were some things that were better (free uni etc) but they did the best with what was available, just like we should. Shit isn't just going to fall into your lap, make a decision, live the hard life for a few years to benefit yourself in later years. As for the "boat people" Tell me this, Individual A is facing persecution in their home country (let’s call it Iran) They decide to flee that country, paying tens of thousands of dollars to a people smuggler to get them out of the country, at this stage they are a legitimate Refugee, they are seeking to escape their home country for fear of persecution or displacement via war famine etc. They somehow (whether by plane or boat) manage to escape their country moving through multiple other countries on their way to Indonesia etc. Once they step foot into a country where they are free from the persecutors (ANY of those along the way) they lose that refugee status. They are no longer a legitimate refugee. A refugee seeks asylum in the first place they can. When they make the decision to leave their new found safety and decide that it is up to them to Choose their destination for asylum, they become an illegal immigrant. I don’t find that so hard to understand, if they were genuinely just trying to get away from something they would stop when they could. But our current system of handouts and bullshit means that our shores will make them more comfortable than stopping when they are simply "safe" It’s human nature to seek out a better life, BUT that doesn’t mean we should have to cop it. We signed up to take in legitimate refugees, not those who decide Australia looks like a better place than where I am, let’s go there.... Join the queue, apply for the right to live here like all the other people looking to live here from Europe, Asia etc etc.
  11. well w55 and w50 shifters are interchangeable AFAIK, so that rules out the cheap short shifter option then.
  12. are you running a t50? (too many pages to go searching) I've searched for W50 shifters on ebay and come up trumps?
  13. Where'd you buy this from? I'm chasing a cheaper option for the W50 in the torry, but can't seem to find anyting other than the NZ shifter we bought for the racecar ($350+)
  14. flip it upside down, whack it on the front and call it a chin spoiler :D
  15. I don't think it matters what it is.... It's just ʞ©$ɟing UGLY! lol
  16. For anyone who isn't too keen on messing around with springs and bob weights (I'm one of those silly enough to play with them myself haha, holden dizzies are a pain in the bum!) http://www.performanceignition.com.au/home Scorcher distributors do custom curved, standard style dizzys for a range of cars. You send them your engine specs, revs etc etc and they curve the dizzy to suit your needs. Costs a little more than doing it yourself (obviously) but is handy for those not willing or able to tackle DIY
  17. That injection setup is awesome. The sliding butterflies are a very cool idea, the injection nozzle placement is interesting too! Imagine a decent backfire in that thing! Sheesh!
  18. You'd be suprised with the longevity and reliability of any "fish tank" related equipment. tank gear is made to run 24/7/365, not just on and off in a car environment. As long as its suitable mounted for vibration and doesnt see excessive heat, the thing will run all day every day for 5+ years. I've had chinese canister filters last 7 years flowing 2000 litres per hour..... so thats 61320 hours..... even if you drove at 20km/h you'd still be able to cover over a million kilometres before you even looked at replacing the pump. Find an "automotive" component that will do the same thing and for such an excellent price.
  19. this is a better view of the racecar (with the non-track wheel on) and standard vs flared But we have "bogan toranas with balloon tyres" lol
  20. but wouldnt the answer be to run correctly fitting wheels then??? as for flared guards... well... this is my other torana...
  21. I'm not overly familiar with the lifter placement and lifter bore spread on the k motors, but most roller lifters for aftermarket applications run tie bars (like these) Most adaptations of chevy roller lifters require a notch in between the lifter bores to accomodate the tie bar, or like someone mentioned earlier, using a different design, and some notches in the walls. To run roller lifters (especially with a tie bar) you need to ensure that the lifter bores are 100% square and true. a few though may be ok at low revs and when running the motor over by hand to check clearances etc, but once it gets some revs, the strain on the lifters (if they are not running 100% square to each other) and the tie bar is enormous. To get around that, alot of guys machine the lifter bores and run bronze sleeves, gives a bit more leeway. As mentioned before, roller rockers have a roller tip for the valve tip, reduced the friction applied as the rocker tip slides/rolls across the valve stem during the arc-open-close motion. I'm not sure on your piston to valve clearance, but if you find yourself lacking in the available lift department (for cam grinds) then you can always look at upping the rocker ratio to compensate (or just to get more lift at the valve) In the holden six six world, standard rockers are 1.5 ratio, and you can buy anything up to 1.75:1 ratio in an aftermarket roller rocker. Good to see someone thinking outside the box with a project though :) top work. Is the crank you are working with fully counterweighted or are they a piss poor design like the early holden crank? ohhh, one last thing, just notice that lifter "tip" in the photo, Not sure if its just me (or I'm looking at the wrong thing?) but that doesnt look like any sort of roller I've seen before, looks more like a spring loaded swipe face? (so similar to a traditional lifter would be, but with a high spring tension that allows some up/down movement to reduce the tension/friction?)
  22. regardless of where it started, all the fanboys use the "makes the sidewall stiffer and improves handling" bullshit to justify it. A tyre like those on the startlet are made with a stiff non-flex sidewall to begin with, so that excuse goes out the window. I had some 175/65/14s on some 14x7s on the front of the ute for a while (they were laying around, didnt have the cash for new tyres at that stage) Made it ride/steer like shit (although it did make it lower...) a 205 is a correctly fitting tyre for a 7 inch rim....
  23. I really didnt see all the need for outrage at cuts in public servants (as in your typical admin back office workers) As you say, there are already FAR too many of them, and the ridiculous money you can earn by simply climbing the "you've been in your current role for 3 years, have a promotion" ladder, is insane. Take one look at a local council office and its pretty obvious that there is something wrong. WGMG today, lactose intolerance. I had a dinner on sunday night that had cream (chicken and potato bake) had it for lunch yesterday too, ʞ©$ɟ me, my farts stank to high heaven! my office was a reak-fest all day yesterday! haha, I actually had to get a fan and start some air movement out my door (no opening windows) so it wouldnt stink all week.
  24. why would you stretch semis....
  25. Not that I think its the place to get into a discussion about it, But Julian Assange is a moron. the bloke thinks he is above all laws and regulations, the smug ʞ©$ɟwith can rot in a cell for all I car. Some of the cables etc that he released caused uproar in countries where our troops and US troops are serving. They stirred up tensions already at boiling point and converted who knows how many people to an anti-west philosophy. I don't give a ʞ©$ɟ about who's ego it hurt in the US govt. But when his actions put my friends, family and hundreds of thousands of other brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers etc etc in ADDED danger, well thats not right. What point was/is there to releasing that information? Seriously? People say that the government should be 100% transparent, that we should be able to know anything at anytime and things like ASIO and the CIA shouldnt be able to operate covertly.... so how do we go about tracking, catching and prosecuting criminals that fall into their scope if we can't have secrets? Although the government pisses me right up the wall 99% of the time, the purpose is to carry out the crap that the general populus would make an even bigger mess of.... On a political note, WGMG.... The whole pansy "lets comply with the rest of the world" bullshit. Why do we even pander to complying with policies that disadvantage our own people? Why do we even have to entertain the idea of taking in refugees? because the UN said so? because other countries do? Why do we have to allow people to fish in Australian territorial waters? Why do we have to throw millions of dollars of taxpayer money to "help" other poor nations (like the 500 million for indonesian schools... seriously?)
