  1. Damn good advice Mr Redwarf! I've seen second hand harnesses and helmets for sale, and that concept scares me... If they don't feel safe enough to keep using them, why would they let someone else??? I suppose by equipping a driver with an underpowered car, it'd kinda force them to focus on 'best lines' braking points and that sort of thing without a fear of the right pedal throwing them off the track? Oh, for those who race, what tires would you recommend for occasional track use on the cheap?
  2. We've got an RA23 which we'll be looking at putting RA65 brakes and struts into. I'm still weighing up engine choice at the moment... What's more important? more power or better weight distribution?
  3. Hi all, I've been doing a fair bit of reading lately, and I thought I'd chuck this up for some friendly discussion... My thought is this... Where is money best spent on a cheap track car? Yes, I know "cheap track car" is a contradiction in terms, but bear with me. I'm looking at the areas of a performance vehicle can't be scrimped on... Where decent money has to be spent with the goal not so much being for overall performance, but more focussed on driver skill development. What are the 'order of priority' for spending on a track car, that can make for a reliable tool to develop driver skills? Is it better to spend on adjustable suspension, decent track tires, better power to weight (note that i didn't say MORE power...), better brakes... anything you can think of... just where is it most important to spend on decent parts, and what can be done on the cheap???
  4. That must have been the most imbarrassing introduction to rollaclub in the history of rollaclub... You still looking for quad headlights? PM me... This (when fixed) could well contend for the title of quickest rolla in Perth... you run it down the drags at all?
  5. I'm getting to the point where I don't mind main street sorta cruises... I dream of rollaclub getting tidy and respectable enough to take a cruise through northbridge or freo main drag and not get laughed at. I think it's slowly getting there, but at the same time, I know full well that most guys are into corollas because of how fun they are to blast around twisties in... There's plenty of picturesque stops... up in the hills, around the city (kings park, foreshore, south perth etc) and along the coast. I agree traffic lights are sucky, except for the odd drag... haha. only up to the speed limit of course. Some good fun can be had on Park Road, through John Forrest National Park, though the surface is a bit sketchy. Canning Dam Road is the absolute winner in my book. I've seen some interesting back tracks that could serve as makeshift circuits for time trials and the like, but haven't had the urge to look closer. Might have to "step it up a notch" and take some exploritory drives...
  6. I'm officially not organising the next one, but I will be there! gotta get the 3SGE in for sick N/A power.
  7. Nah man... wasn't there long enough. don't know why he showed in the first place, other than to bag out my choice of start location... at least it proved my point... start at locations the cops know, and the anti-social elements will piss off.
  8. He was car perving on all our sweet rides and not paying attention to the old dude granny driving in front of him. bahahaha. seemed like an alright guy. hope he looks us up. would be good to have a 4AGZE powered rolla on the team. :hmm:
  9. Cheers for the turn out guys! I really appreciated all the positive comments and the general attitude of all that came along. And thanks to the Toymods crew for coming down and improving our numbers a bit! you're all welcome in the future. Thanks also to Mr Plod for not pulling anyone over... Was the most cop cars i've seen on a rollaclub cruise, but one of the few where no-one got into mischief with the strong arm of the law. someone wanna post that poor kid's AE71? i felt sooooo bad. I guess that's what you get when you're not on the cruise, and only driving past... rollaclub membership saves dents! haha
  10. What this made me think of... Someone tell me it's got a Top Secret sticker on it somewhere... that'd just make my day!
  11. sniff sniff :) AE70 will not be coming... I'll be there in the Mark II though...
  12. invest in a tape measure... it holds all the answers you seek...
  13. You DON'T need to bore the cylinders to take the 3T crank... you say you Bored AND Stroked it to get 1.8L??? how much did you bore it out by???
  14. I've gotta do a 2 day engine conversion!!! lol! talk about leaving everything to the last minute. Gotta swap to hydro pedal box (including drilling holes for it) and just slapping in a 3TC to have the white sexy beast on the road. 3S conversion will have to come later. KE20 won't be making it though.
  15. At least she didn't do what my mate's ex did... she left the car (with about 20,000 still owing) and took the house, which she sold for almost triple what they bought it for. And really... it's a subaru. not that big a loss. welcome to the frey. Toyota ftw.
  16. Depends if it's an X chassis or T chassis... being a 6 cyl, i'd assume it's an MX22 or MX23 (or MX10 or MX13 if 4 door...) I bought an auto coupe with 68,000 logbooked kms on it a few months ago for $4,500. I've also got my rebuilt manual coupe up for sale for $5,500. Depending on condition, kms and spec, I'd think you could get up to $7,000 for a low kms, overrated MX23 (with 4M, 4 speed manual and F series diff) with JDM fender mirrors and untouched body with pristine interior. But then it'd sit on the market until someone who fully appreciates the beauty and uniqueness of these cars comes along.
  17. It's sorta one of those things... I understand that to get any sort of performance, I'm going to have to either give up "cheap" or "reliable"... and I don't wanna give up "cheap". I'm not going out with the intention of destroying the 5K, but I'm not expecting it to last all that long with the sort of HP figures I'd like... (though that's changed a little now, as I don't wanna leave the wife stranded with a blown motor.) The intended upgrade was a 2TG, which was going to get a 3TGTE turbo manifold and T28... But IF I do decide to do that, I'll be after a few years of the wife driving (and not crashing) with the 5K turbo. I ended up selling the SC12 too...
  18. Very soon... Ummm... body is getting slowly prepped for paint. surprisingly the colour scheme hasn't changed, but the engine setup has... I scored a CT09 and 7K EFI, so that'll be going onto a 5K fitted with 4AGE pistons and rods, along with a 3KB head I had laying around... Engine is currently on the stand awaiting a bit of lovin, but other people's sh*t keeps detracting from my time.
  19. Hell to the no! score a J160... I've seen them around for the $300 mark, which is pretty cheap considering. It'll bolt up to your 3SGE and fits the same spline as the W55. I've heard rumour they are even the same length. 6 speed FTW!
  20. Yeah, Redbook usually isn't too bad for that sort of thing, but doesn't often take into account the 'little old lady' factor... Those ones that are sort of one owner, genuine log booked and service recorded kms and damn straight, rip free interior and uncracked dash... I'd say the highest redbook listed price is the lowest they should be sold for.
  21. I thought they let us in out of sympathy... ?
  22. PM me and come for a coffee... We can have a chat about what excellent cars T18s are, and how to get the most out of them. If you're free Sunday afternoon I can arrange a lap in a T18 I built with 165hp with easy bolt in bits... If you're just looking to sell stuff, I may be interested in the running gear... I take running gear, h1_roll4 takes the shell. One less car on your lawn... You didn't get this down in rockingham? A white one?
  23. I wanna say Thanks to the moderators and administrators of rollaclub... without you guys we wouldn't have such an awesome site to come to for help and good times. Thanks for putting up with all our sh*t.
  24. Ah, yes!!! July 4th, meet on Hamburger Hill (next to burswood train station...) at 10:30am (yes, there are some american military connotations with the date and the meet point.) It's a long one, and covers most of Perth. End point is ZigZags, but we'll be going via Hillarys and Rockingham, with lots of stops in between... Also for those interested, the night before, TECCWA is running an event. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=59363
