If you're looking for some bumped performance, have a look at setting up a 3K head... Can take all the time in the world with match porting extractors and side draught setups, then when you got it all sitting nice and the way you want it, swapping the whole lot over shouldn't take more than a weekend. The 3K head will bolt straight up and give a nice boost in compression, so that with the afore mentioned extractors and carb setup, plus a nice suitable cam to suit, will make for a good little runner. Suspension and brakes is always a good thing to set up right before looking for extra power though... Sway bars matched with lower stiffer springs and correct dampers. also some GOOD tires will make a surprising difference...

Burn the commodore as a sacrifice to the car gods.... Then buy my T18...
-
www.e-go.com is decent, especially if you're willing to drop off and pick up from the depot...
-
Are you implying I don't thrash my cars enough??? we'll see about that!!! It's also sad to note that this thread is getting more attention now that the allocated time for the cruise is OVER...
-
Two months and I'll have my 3TGTE T18 on the road, LSD 4.3 diff and all... I like the pussyout route too... lets do that one... haha In the mean time, I'll just get my cruise fix with the toymods guys.
-
ME!!! lol...
-
go a 2TG with twin side draughts and a nice set of extractors? good power, lotsa revs and period correct FTW!
-
OK!!! CRUISE IS CANCELLED... DUE TO COMPLETE LACK OF INTEREST...
-
I totally love the "poor man's SLR"... I so want to get hold of a TE71 (the lift back T18 thingy) and do a Peter Brock A9X ripoff... turn this... Into THIS!!!
-
+ 1 for white wheels... makes the car look more 'purposeful' lol
-
Considering it's looking like it'll be another Chris and Garnetts' families gathering, I guess we could leave off until people have cars on the road... unless people want to take mine.
-
All deserters will be shot!
-
I'll lend you my T18 and you can come?
-
will pm later

Ok. Let me know if you need pretty decent doors. Also got pretty new rear struts and stuff... Come on the cruise next weekend?

1300 advertised... not sure if the guys still have it. It's wiring, ecu, box, mounts... Everything for a KE70 conversion, because that is what they pulled it from... I took it for a test drive, and it goes hard!!! all it needs is another fuel pump, because the setup they has is dropping pressure at high revs/boost possibly about another hundred to fix with a VL fuel pump wired in from the wreckers, and she's sweet. Also, the T18 box will go straight onto the tailshaft in your KE70... literally straight bolt in.
-
There's a 3TGTE for 1300 in the quokka that'd bolt in nicely...
-
OH! well son! get it done!!! hope you go well with your p's test or whatever it is they put you through these days... lol
-
Which ones were they??? were you the guys that rolled up in the turbo T18 that time on Great Eastern??? that was a bomber day... Two for a turnout... yeah... I see what you mean. lol. I'm hoping we can all chip in and turn this trend around. Myself and Chris are down, as always, and I got corollas coming out my ears, so if anyone is without a ride, let me know and you can drive one of mine... I've actually got a bit of a treat lined up for all car fans that come along. Hoping to make it well worth it. Really though, it's the people that make it. The more quite often is the merrier, so lean on anyone you know with a rolla to come along!

The best place has been other rollaclub members... I've got a KE70 shell I'll be parting out real soon... can't help with engine parts, but Chris might have something you need laying about. I've got suspension, diff, tailshaft, doors and boot that are pretty decent, and most parts of a decent interior too... Good idea to just post up what you need, and see who can hook you up.

Hi guys and gals... I just got up nice and early, and pulled out a 5K out of a KE70 ready to stick into a KE55 tomorrow morning... The best thing in my life right now is not starting work until 11... I have time to work on my cars when I am feeling fresh and ready to face the world, instead of after I get home after a long day and just want to hide somewhere warm... And I don't have to negotiate the city traffic either!!! Please post up anything that is just making your life wonderful at the moment...

Hear hear... In a lot of instances, provided you are starting with a nice solid base engine (big or small port aside) the power you want can be had with primarily bolt on performance parts, and just boost it up until you get where you want to be. Always a good idea to build a strong bottom end if you want to keep it at that level for an extended period though... Back to the original question... 3TGTE vs 4AGTE... gotta weigh up the pros and cons of each engine, and decide which is most suitable to you... 3TGTE= old technology poor factory turbo hard to come by hard to fix if something pops Strong engine stock turbocharged Strong box out of the box (W55) 4AGTE= Common... (that's a big downer in my book, a pro to others... like I said though, it is what suits you...) RWD conversion needed New head technology easy to source parts easy to mod to turbo if something pops, another 4A block is relatively easy to come by For me personally, I am going with the 3TGTE It's not so common, so would get a bit more interest under the bonnet, is turbo from the factory, so I can just copy what's already there when upgrading, it's got the W55 box behind it, so works real well for my goals of power and reliability further down the driveline, and is more of a challenge of my commitment to the project when building, as I've got to go further with my research and parts sourcing... but that's just me, and I like to do things the hard way...

I hope you joined a forum to help develop a sense of humor... really... coming in with attitude isn't good noobie... won't make you many friends. And THAT is what forums like this are all about. Friends helping friends. As for easy conversions that are capable of that power? A 5K will bolt in, and can reach that sort of power... http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=31843 But it COSTS to get there... As they say, Powerful, Reliable, Cheap... pick any two...

Deal... We should just call it Chris and Liz and Jo and Garnett's rolla club... and put it on facebook...

True to that... Initial D was great for getting tuner companies to start producing parts for the 4AGE... That said, for a bit additional for the importing fees, it appears about the same to get gear from the US for the T series engines. Wanting to run over 400hp at the wheels? lots of work (and money) with the 4A. In the states, dudes are running that with blow thru carb setups on 3T-C pushrod engines... Add twin cams and EFI to that, and you are onto a winner. Also, a wise old (not really that old) man once told me, If you want to build a high horsepower engine, get the oldest, heaviest iron block you can find, fill it with titanium and top it off with the newest best flowing heads you can find. This man is running a 454 big block from a 1972 Impala with exactly that inside, and topped off with a subtle supercharger for a reliable 1800bhp on PULP. Stuck that into a Monaro and went... well... fast. Bring on the new tech heads by all means, but want something strong? Go old school...
