Yeah, i kinda wanted to know the limits of the SC12, but i'll still put it on in place of an SC14 as I have something much different in mind to upgrade to when (not if, but WHEN) she goes bang... But it's a secret... Anyways, didn't get the engine work started as I had to sort a couple of things out, such as re-shuffling the yard and clearing the tow truck. Considering though that I am not after stupid power (remembering that it's the wife's car) I may just settle for 8-10psi and does her on gas for the 400m sprint... We'll see though. -
Those manifolds are not going to fit. at all... ever. lol. That's the trouble with 20v. I'll bring it back up next time i'm up your way, which should be pretty soon, And yes, Chris, you'll be in a class of your own.

Oh no bro! get the KE20 done instead? hehehe.
-
sweet! I'd better get your engine finished then!

Unless you want to borrow my Red T18 (which will have an engine in her again...)
-
Step 1) take engine Step 2) bolt on turbo Step 3) do mad skids... Easy!

Hi all, I'm keen on another cruise... and I know some other members are too. I'm thinking from our poll from last time, the second place was a beach run starting in the city, up to scarborough then down the coast to freo... how's that sound for everyone? This one will be through populated (and policed) areas, so it'd be better to bring vehicles and behaviours that the cops won't target. With a bit of luck Ken's KE10 will be done by then and Callum might be around with his 20? I would love to see both of these in action, as well as Matt's KE26. My 3TGTE T18 will be there too. hopefully Jaden's engine will be built and installed, so there'll be a good handful of choice cars to check out. how's everyone with that particular date? I'll be looking to make it as accessable as possible for those members who work away, so guys, let me know when you'll be in town, and we can make it to suit.

that's funny... the wastegate is bigger than the turbo. mwahahaha!

Mwahaha! considering I wanted to score your 20, i think it's all fair. funny thing is, i paid the same as you did for yours... I'm out to the steaming hot shed to get another shell out the way... it's 42 degrees in the shade today, and I'm under a hot tin roof... joy! -
WOW! 9G for a 4.1L KE55??? bargain!

SC12 running on a 1.25 pulley ratio is good for roughly 21psi. Until the supercharger breaks... I'll be creating some form of pulley change system to enable "quick" change of the pulleys. I won't be running 20 psi and 150hp at the fly all day every day... more like just shy of 100hp on 10psi. I'll be able to change the pulley over at the same time as i swap the tires over to get traction down the strip. We are even talking about using a shot of giggle gas to get the power up even higher just for those special occasions. I'd love an end result of 200hp at the fly. that'd be dynamite... -

After an extensive search through the toyota colour charts, the final colour has been decided on. Dorado Gold Pearl from the toyota 4Runner... We'll be painting all the headlight and tail light surrounds silver and I've got a airbrush design that'll be silver and charcoal running down the sides. I want to end up with something exceptionally stylish and very clean, and certainly powerful. We'll be stripping apart the engine/s on tuesday, so expect more pics and technical posts as we discover what we have to work with engine wise... -
Suddenly i'm getting the urge to beat something with a stick... What a moron.
-
well, it WOULD be original... i don't think anyone else would have tried to enter anything like that.

Hooray! It's wonderful to be able to access the collective genius of those that contribute here. Lord knows individually we are all probably lacking in some area or another. I'm glad to be part of this forum, and extremely glad for the fact we can all have our say, and at the end of the day, get banned by the moderators... Joking guys! Mods do such a fantastic job, and i really think they don't get enough praise... Three cheers for the Moderators! Hip Hip... -
We picked her up for a paltry price, the previous owner had to sell her due to geographic reasons, mainly that he wasn't remaining in our geographic location. He'd kindly removed all the rust and straightened the bumpers. Almost ready for paint... She came with the original 3K, 4 speed combo, and a 7MGE auto... the original owner was smitten with a certain 1hp per kg car featured on this site and wanted something similar. Now, however the tide has turned... She's going to be something a little more sensible. only a little. Over the next few months, we'll be approaching a range of technical aspects of building the "perfect" rolla... body prep, blocking, sanding, modding, spoilering, painting and detailing. Engine building, combining parts from different models, supercharging theory and practice, turbo carb tuning, custom fabrication. Suspension tuning and modification, spring selection. Interior styling, design and construction. It's a lot to go over, so pay attention children... We'll be taking the original 3K engine and freshening her up. complete strip down and rebuild, only we won't be using the original head... We'll have a fresh ported and polished 4K head, and we may or may not tackle o-ringing... undecided so far. We'll be fitting an adaptor plate to take the blow thru turbo Weber carburettor from a 2L Maserati and fabricating a inlet tract including intercooler to run from the SC12 Supercharger. We'll be aiming to build her to handle 20 psi or so. A large part of this will be re-jetting and tuning the carburettor, so we'll go into as much detail on this as possible. Next, we'll get a custom made clutch to put the power through a 5 speed box and bolt it all in. I hear rumour of a group who'll be experimenting with LSD centers for K series diffs so we'll be having a bit of fun seeing what the deal is with them. Body wise, she'll have the last few bits of straightening that she needs before being very carefully prepped for paint. Also, we'll be doing a number of body mods such as customizing the grill and fitting a duck-tail spoiler. We'll also be building a complete custom interior. Re-trimmed seats, custom dash and stereo install as well as a near complete re-wire. To get the sweet little thing sitting just right, the suspension will be converted to KE55 struts and diff as well as increased camber. Fortunately the steering is superb, so won't need rebuilding, although we will be putting new suspension and steering rubbers in. Rims will be touched up and polished and a set of new semi performance tires fitted. Perhaps I have too many rims to choose from, so we'll have to see what works best before deciding. To finish off the whole package I'll be adding some airbrushed decals and originally placed crome striping.

And not a rollaclub member? OMG! well, I have a new KE20 sitting on the back of the truck... she'll be having an engine built this week (along side Baggus's engine) and got a SWEET set of rims. The aim is tidy, functional and damn sexy! check the build thread i'll post in a sec... I vote our regional leader find out if we can use the rollaclub banner for 2011. Oh, Josh, how about editing the first post and have a running tally of people that are keen, what car they intend to enter and what they think makes their car worthy of entry? Put me down for; Green T18 - 3TGTE, TDO6, Microtech MT-4, external waste gate, V mount intercooler, frenched custom bumpers, custom interior and cage, and HSD coilovers, low on 15s. Red T18 - 3T/2TG hybrid with twin side draught webers, custom RA65 coilovers, closed door respray (finally going to fix that orange peel...) and my wife, KE20 (no colour chosen yet) - 3K with 4K head, supercharged, blow through weber, full restored interior, 13x7 fat as mags. aiming for 25psi and giggle gas... White T18 - Twin side draught 3T/2T engine, low kings springs, 13" twelve slotters, restored and rat rodded. I wanna see Ken's up here too!!! both of them... hehe.

There is LOTS to take into account when setting up suspension and steering... Generally rack and pinion becomes a necessary conversion when there is so much weight over the wheels, or oversized tires and wheels, make turning difficult. When converting any steering to either rack and pinion, or power steering, you've got to make sure you aren't messing with the Ackerman angle, camber, caster, linkage arrangement, bump steer, scrub radius, toe-in, and trail. Easiest way to go about it (and a high level of precision is necessary) is to follow the original path of the linkages. Make sure the pivot points for the rack and pinion are sitting at exactly the same hight, distance and arm angle as the original setup. With the KE20, being narrower than KE and AE70s, this would mean re-fabricating the actual rack to have the same width as the track rod on the original setup. then, when mounting, you'd be looking to get the rack mounted in the same position as the track rod sits... Then comes the fun part of getting the steering column changed/modded to suit the rack and pinion... I've just done a rack and pinion conversion on my T18 (which is heaps easier as the geometry is the same as the donor car) but, my AE71 steering, including crossmember, with all mounts attached is pretty much a bolt in. The steering shaft is a different matter... It required some decent mods, and i'd happily say that doing similar to a KE20 is going to be a darn sight bit harder. Maybe weigh it up against other possible mods as well as your reasons for wanting the conversion... if it's from a performance aspect, as in, you want to corner harder/faster etc... forget it... it's not necessary... you're better off stiffening and lowering and adjusting your camber, castor and toe. Lightness of steering isn't going to help you go quicker, it'll just mean you don't need to move the wheel as hard. anyways, good luck. maybe let us know what you're intending to do with it, and we can point you in the appropriate direction.

Take a look on the Japan car sites some time... I've seen a 2TG converted KE30 actually sell for $45,000AU. it all comes down to what people are willing to pay. That said, if every KE30 owner suddenly decides that they won't advertise for less than $2000, then guess what... you won't be able to get a KE30 for less than $2000, so if you really want one, you'll have to find the cash. you'll have to be willing to pay that much. I don't think that they are worth that much, so for me, I'll keep buying KE20s and T18s... for less than $800.

1981 Ke55 Coupe Engine Modifications
white_sandshoe replied to tylerrice's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
SC14 or SC12... depends what boost you want to run really... The SC14 will have higher boost capabilities and be able to run with less overdrive= longer charger life. The thing with boosting is it essentially means higher compression from having more air in the engine. This means more stress on the engine, which, if too much, means blowing things up. Easiest way to ensure a longer living engine is lower the compression, tune it properly, run good quality/higher octane fuels and drive within the limits of the engine. have a good long read through some of the boost theory threads that are all over the place in here... learn from others, work out what combination would best suit your needs/budget and go from there. -

Instead of just securing a bottom end, it'd likely pay to track down a complete 5K. In the mean time, putting together the supercharger kit and testing it out on your current engine may be helpful to work out the kinks while you set up your 5K to handle boost... That said, to keep the car on the road as long as possible, it may pay to set up your complete engine and manual (i hope) transmission and then spend the weekend swapping them across once you are dead set that it'll all drop in and run sweet. Anyways, sounds like you've got your work cut out for you... -

The Only Good Use For Cut Springs!
white_sandshoe replied to Evan G's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Jack from supercheap - $50 Cheap RWD corolla - $300 Cut springs - $free Lowering the car off the jack and onto the cut spring, only to have it fly out and take your mate's leg off... PRICELESS -
The fun part is getting accepted... Apparently it's easier to get a bog stock WRX with a paint job accepted than a heavily modified 80's supra... (i know a WRX who got in and a supra owner who didn't... makes no sense...) Anyways, we'll see how it goes over the course of the year... I'd suggest planning out your projects to finish by mid-year though... that way they might just be done in time. lol

By Motorvation next year, the T18 will have a lot more done to it than it does now. Should get a bit of attention... I'm also hoping to have two other T18's there, and drag one of my mates along with his AE86... One of the T18's will be getting a high compression, twin carb job done and rat rod body treatment, the other will have a twin carb, high compression twin cam engine. Body wise, she'll be relatively subtle, but with a full gamut of suspension mods. I'd be really keen to have a selection of really tidy, well thought out and executed cars put together... Something very much like Ken's 10... that thing will be an absolute pearler when she's done (soon... really really soon) I guess we need to talk to his lord almighty, the one and only master of all that is rollaclub, Mr Irokin about utilising the rollaclub name/banner...
