Yeah 40mm dcom sidedraft weber, how do you check if it is locked? if so how do you rectify it or do you have to just advance your timing further??

So everything is set up, thermofan in and working well, engine starts and idles, has great oil pressure but the timing wont advance like it should, I'm spewing, its the only thing holding me back anyway here is a few more progress shots ill be more excited when i can actually drive it and see how she goes!!

Hi Guys So i have just put a 7k engine in my rolla, and it seems to be all good, however for some reason, the mechanical advance in the dizzy isnt working!! The distributor is a 5k electronic type with an internal ignitor, and has just 2 wires coming out from it The car will start and idle, and we have set the base timing at 15deg, but when you rev the engine up, the timing doesnt advance?? I still have the original points coil with ballast resistor on it which i am planning to change but i don't think that would affect the timing as the car is starting and idling Should i remove the ballast resistor?? And the vaccum advance is working as well because we did the suction test on that and it does work Any and all help is appreciated, I am hanging to tune and drive this but this is the onlything holding me back PLEASE HELP!!!! Hey Mick, Yeah i have a brand new caby setup electronic dizzy ready to go, the one on there has the efi controller on it so thats why ill be swapping But will definately have the electronic ignition, don't worry :)

More photos of the progress, all that is left to do is change the dizzy over, hook the exhaust back up and some tuning and she is good to go

And we also spaced the gearbox up 10mm

I knew some questions would be raised on this HaHa So we made up spacer plates and the engine sits about 12mm higher than normal, the sump clears the xmember at the narrowest point by about 8mm I am about 30mins work away from firing it up (next weekend though), and we tried to shake the shit out of the engine to see if it hits at all but its all good

So i finally picked up my 7K on thursday and have been working on it since got the engine all mounted in without any sump mods as well STOKED, photos of where i am up to now, will start putting the weber extractors starter etc on today, so should be very close to a fire up today if not next weekend for sure

After much mental anguish and deliberation, I put a deposit down on a 7k today :cool: Decided i may have been flogging a dead horse with the 4k so rather than throw money at the head on that I'm buying a low km 7k Will stick the weber on there and my 2" exhaust is good to go so should see a decent gain Stay tuned, over the coming weeks will start stripping the engine bay to make way for the 1.8l Then the fun begins :yes:

Hey Guys I have tried searching for this info but with no avail, Is probably a very simple answer but will 3k 4k 5k inlet & exhaust manifolds bolt straight onto a 7k head? I am looking at differend options for my rolla now ive blown the head gasket and have just spent a heap on sidedraft weber extractors etc and want to know if they can just be bolted up Also have a new 5k electronic dizzy to use Cheers Andrew

Head gasket shit itself today, right when i was about to set off on a cruise Not a happy camper :bash: :bash: :bash: If anyone has a 4k head they want to get rid of please let me know I am going to go full house with the head, and prefer to leave my engine whole in the process as it may take a couple of months due to funds I am spewing

Hope you find the car and even catch the filthy mongrels First thing i did to my car before i did anything was install an alarm/ immobiliser with shock sensors My car also sleeps in a locked garage, behind 2 big bitey border collies, behind a pair of locked gates and behind another two parked cars Me takes no chances......but I still worry :blinks:

Thanks mate, I'm loving how its coming together, no longer working saturdays now so i should be able to get my finger out and finish off the interior properly I love the feel of that wheel, much nicer to drive with, 70's muscle car all the way 8D

Another minor addition Went to Ato one to grab some brake fluid and saw this beauty, i coldnt walk past without buying it, suits my muscle car theme down to a tee Let me know what you think, its the steering wheel by the way :cool:
