What is the MSD trigger source set to? MAG (magnetic) or HALL (Hall Effect)? Should be on MAG. Double checked the wiring?

Results are in for the NGK VMC held at Pakenham on Sunday, Blue Thing placed 18th of 33 Outright (11th of 25 not including Specials) & 4th of 4 in Class A. The better news is I didn't hit any flags or Wrong Direction, so I'm not too rusty after all.

Maybe just a touch, possibly due to a bit too much handbrake action. Excited for Deni this weekend, crossing fingers that the rain stays away.

Sooo, the Pakenham round of the VMC was on today. The weather was great, the surface was short grass at first then gradually got a little dusty. We ran the garages on the opposite side to what we had in the past, I think that side had copped some use from previous events so it was getting a rest. One of my better runs for the day, on one of the more 'fun' tests. Actually used second gear for the majority of it, which is rare. Home safe & well from the VMC, with no misbehaving on Blue Things behalf. Unpacked, washed & beer'd. After Deniliquin next weekend I can finally fit those coilovers!

Glad he managed to get ahold of your number, noticed a post on FB from him asking if anyone had it to let you know. Nothing beats doing 'skidz' on your birthday. :D It's quite easy, recline drivers seat, put car in gear, release handbrake (so it doesn't lodge somewhere awkward) then rotate in seat 90 degrees so your feet are on the passenger side. Surprisingly comfy. The back seat involves moving wheels & is uncomfortable anyway. I've taken the Monday after Deni off again, so I'll be at both VMC events. The Deni rescheduled date is the same day as the TCCAV Drag Racing Day at Heathcote, spewing that I'll be missing that now. :(

Blame the DSCC, their call not ours. :P

An Aeroflow branded low-pressure adjustable regulator, with a return line plumbed into the outlet side. It does have that sound to it, but would the noise change depending on whether the clutch is engaged or not? It doesn't change when I press the clutch pedal, so I kind of dismissed it. nOOb error?- 539 replies

Apologies for the spam-posting but they've pulled the pin on the VMC event. Fair call I guess, I would have still run in the mud. My driveway currently resembles the Deni grounds. :D

Loving your persistence here, nothing better than when everything's done right. Or as best you can under financial/time circumstances. That photo of the A-dub & Alexis (damn they get bigger fast!) is awesome!

Deni grounds currently look like this, the decision to run the VMC or not is being made in about 15min.

Squeals of amazement & screams of horror are quite different I'm afraid, most likely the latter. It does sound very belt-like, I've run the engine sans drivebelt & the noise is still present. Obviously haven't run it sans timing-belt, but I don't think that's the cause. I've tried using a stethoscope but I'll be buggered if I can pinpoint the exact source. I believe that it's somehow vacuum related, as the noise only occurs when off the throttle, the moment I touch the throttle it goes away. Using the MSD software on the laptop, I've found that it will only occur when manifold vacuum is at 8.50psi or less. Which is making me think it's either a pinhole leak in my intake manifold or the carbs themselves.- 539 replies

From an email just received: Here in Deniliquin we have had a lot of rain today. After inspection of the track late this afternoon the committee has decided to cancel tomorrows Autocross event DSCC Autocross Round 4. However at this stage the VMC Motorkhana should still be able to go ahead on Sunday. Well, that lets me have a sleep in tomorrow as I'm already packed (was hoping to make the autocross) & I can spend some time getting my new workspace setup. There's $h1t everywhere from the move still, zero chance of getting anything done until it's sorted.

It's been a while since I bothered to work this out, but Blue Things fuel economy figures with the 16/20 4A-G are in. With morning/afternoon traffic, city, suburban & freeway driving combined, 7.94L/100km.- 539 replies

The next round is being held in Deniliquin on Sunday the 19th of April, have taken the Monday off work so I'm definitely in. Unsure at this point about participation in the autocross on the Saturday, may have to work in order to have the Monday off.

Round 3 is on this Sunday at Werribee, the $h1t part is I won't be able to play. It's the same weekend as when I'm going to be relocating my worldly possessions. A friend of a friend needs a housemate & has a big shed he's willing to share. Good luck CC if you're planning on being out there!

I have missed a diary entry or three, but approximately 860, not including the time taken to relocate it.....five times now. This car is the love of my life & the bane of my existence at the same time.

This is all being packed up & moved to a new location (again) in the very near future. But while I still have access to a MIG welder, finished the passenger C-Pillar.

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)

Vacuum manifold V1.0, now onto V2.0. The four barbs go to the intake runners, the larger bottom fitting goes to the brake booster & the smaller fitting is for the MAP sensor. P.S - Yes, that is an EFI fuel rail. P.P.S - Yes, the open hole is plugged up. Also didn't stop the squealing noise.....- 539 replies

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)
carbonboy replied to carbonboy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
In the pursuit of the air jets causing the squealing noise, I swapped out the #140 ones for some #155 items. Made zero difference to the noise, but helped the AFR's. Since changing one thing means changing all of the things, I then had to adjust the idle, the mixture screws & gave the carbs another synch to be on the safe side. Hovering around 21.0:1 at idle, but I'm happy with everywhere else. Have a new theory about the noise.....the vacuum distribution block I made. (Yes, I will keep coming up with new theories until I solve it)- 539 replies

carbonboy replied to carbonboy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
I was lucky enough to have scored a jetting kit when I bought the carbs, so I had some to play with from the beginning. More importantly, a nice little container to store them in! These carbs are similar, it only takes the slightest movement of the throttle pedal to completely change the mixture reading. Mine go slightly lean at first, then richen up as the load increases. At full throttle & ~6,500rpm it's somewhere in the 12's, don't really have time to pay much more attention as you're busy keeping it pointed where you want it. Solving the squealing noise & dyno-time is what I need now.- 539 replies

Blue Thing: The Daily / Motorkhana Hack (Now Efi)
carbonboy replied to carbonboy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
That didn't work as I'd hoped, the #42 jets turned out to be too large. Mixture screws were only 1/4-turn out, yet it was reading 10.5:1 - 11.4:1 at cruise, sometimes 9.4:1, even though at idle it was around 20.4:1. So I ordered a set of #40 jets (available in Oz rather surprisingly) & while I had access to a hoist, tested to see if changing jets was easier to do from underneath (leaving the intake on), rather than pulling the entire intake off the engine. Having done so, I can testify that it's easier to pull the intake off. Do-able, just bugger-all room. With the mixture screws 2 turns out, it's reading 13.6:1 at cruise & 22.4:1 at idle. Needs some more tweaking, but I'm definitely in the ballpark. I also have a theory that the air correction jets are the cause of the squealing noise, but I'm ignoring it for the moment.- 539 replies
