  1. Thanks for that but now I am confused! I was told the motor is a 1600cc. Don't mind 1400cc, cheaper on fuel and I am way past hooning around. Will have to get engine number and ask Toyota

  3. I have just bought a 1989 nova and now I learn that it has a 6AFE carby motor in it. Is there any major difference between these and the 4AFC carby motor? If there is/are, what are they and are they mutually exclusive?
  4. Of course the fact that my AE82 is front wheel drive will not be any sort of an inconvenience, will it?
  5. OK, I new to rollas. did not think of diff. thinking about changing from rear drum to rear disc brakes on my AE82. can it be done? Is it simple? how much is involved in changing the hand brake? also, my AE82 sedan has an anti roll bar fitted to the rear suspension but no anti roll bar on the front suspension. will a later model anti roll bar fit on my front end? If so, how do I do it?
  6. 7shades, I told you it was a long drive to Cairns. you should try importing your gas from Japan, it is closer than Bass Straight isn't it? They (the Japs) are buying lpg from us for 9 cents a litre and we are paying up to 79 cents a litre at the servo. GRRRRR. :hmm: Are we suckers or what?
  7. 7shades, I am a bit late with this reply but could not resist. I would come to Cairns to get one of your "dime a dozen" 4AFC motors but it would cost me around $800 in fuel and another $800 in motel and food cost for the 6 day 5000+ kilometre round trip. Not that driving up and down the east coast of Australia would not be fun. Wet a couple of lines on the way. Barbequed fish is ok. thanks for the info, solved a little problem. now I can get rid of the 13 inch razor blades I am using for tyres and slip a set of 14 or 15 inch Honda rims on the old girl
  8. AE70, is there any issue with the length of the diff assembly going under an AE82. no sticking out wheels or anything? Whoops, can I blame my computer for dual identical posts? The computer in my head? Now I know what fwd means. f***witted d/h
  9. Wow!!! the info on this forum is amazing. Thanks all. I have another q? What is the wheel offset on the AE82 Corolla please. Oh, and what offset can I get away with doing no suspension mods? I am guessing 4 x 114.3 and 55 offset. we'll see how wrong I am. And Dunadan, are you referring to the two plastic bits at the end of the license plate or the two that go to the tail lights? Just found a good 4AFC for $275. Is that a good price and is there any tricks or clues to fitting it ie mounts, clutch anything at all so I don't stuff it up. Thanks
  10. thanks for the lightning reply ae70. pretty much what I needed and the engine conversion sounds good. any hassles from NSW RTA? maybe I should add that I have been working on cars for the last 45 years but have never had the pleasure of gutting a corolla
