  1. Have you tried a starter spray ('start ya bastard' or similar ether based product) through the throttle body? If it starts and runs on that then fuel delivery may well be the culprit. Have you established that you have adequete spark on each cylinder past the fact it has an occasional kick? You could pull a plug and hold it near an earth when cranking.
  2. Probably add up to a writeoff, but wouldn't be that big of a job to fix..
  3. Fine choice of corolla replacement Raven, the ol' Chaser is a beautiful thing ;)
  4. Whatever mate, id rather see it trashed on national tv than by some fully sick P-plate drifter like the twats that came to look at it when it was for sale the first time. And yes, that particular KE25 was not in the best shape. I had to do a fair bit of work to it to get it looking as normal as it did on the episode. I could have sold them my 11, 20, 25, or 55, but trust me that 25 was the worst of them all.
  5. just keep in mind if the vehicle is there to be inspected, inspectors don't just 'look past' obvious roadworthy issues.
  6. External ignitor electronic dizzy you say.. would this describe the usual K motor electronic unit (terribly pictured below) or is it more complicated?
  7. Forget the steam engine and the 4K, all you need is like ten Turbonators from eBay running in series directly onto the tailshaft. It's FREE POWER people!
  8. Ive also got to find some 4AGE emissions gear, has anyone ripped theirs off and want to part with it?
  9. Anyone? I should also add that i think the lane change/ braking tests are due to also upgrading to corona suspension and brakes. So one consideration is to go back to standard KE55 struts and brakes, but ill have to chat to Vehicle Standards about this to see if it will make required testing lest extensive.
  10. Just wondering who on here has gone through the rigmoral of engineering / inspections to gain legal rego in SA for a 4AGE into a KE. Ive already got a Statement Of Requirements from Vehicle Standards. My question regards the engineering process, as i need: - Vehicle Emissions Test Report (this is simple, exhaust gas analyser test at any reputable mechanic) - Engineers Report, including: -Lane Change Test Procedures -Brake System Test Procedures -Assessment of Torsional Rigidity I'm fairly confident my project will pass all of the above, but ive called around a few engineers and none of them will give me even a ball park figure of price.. I realise it is a difficult thing to quote without knowing all the facts but has anyone had experience in this area they are willing to share?? Cheers!
  11. In regards to the alternator problem, have a read of this KE55 alternator into KE20
  12. Or just ship them to Australia or NZ! can't really talk from experience but ive been told that when a car is a few years old in japan the inspections begin to become more hassle compared to just getting a new car. It does amaze me though how many of the early 1990's RAWS imports still come in with so few kms.. then again i suppose they don't drive anywhere near as much in the cities, too damn busy and public transport is actually usable!
  13. yeah id lean toward unbalanced wheels or tyres going 'egg-shaped' from sitting in one spot too long. Good place to start checking at least. Might not be visibly out of shape or balance but pretty easy to take the wheels into a tyre shop and have them checked.
  14. +1 without a doubt. :P
  15. I considered it, believe me.. but then i thought, it will bring possibly mass publicity to an old classic, and even if it does die it will die a hero.. ancient greek style (minus the sodomy of course)
  16. Sure did, i enjoy it every day amongst many of its other bits in the 20 :P That said, the one i put back in had only done 120k granny kms since new.
  17. Well most of the good bits were swapped into my 20 a while ago, but i cleaned the 25 up pretty good before passing it on to them. I didnt bother asking too many questions about its fate but to be honest I'm kind of hoping it goes down in a widely televised blaze of glory!
  18. oh and its a 25 not a 20..
  19. Its a 70's challenge so that may not have worked. I think theres definate potential for an Aussie version, but it will take a long time to live up to the already established british version. I agree that the hosts shouldnt be based on the british ones. The british trio have a certain chemistry, but they have also been around long enough for people to know what to expect in terms of humour.. They are so established in their characteristics that they don't have to do much to be funny.. people expect it. The first couple of aussie trios have been largely unknown to the public, which makes it quite difficult to be on side with them and recognise their style of humour straight away. And this is definately difficult because they are trying to mimic the brits, which realistically is near impossible. That said, i think theyve had some great ideas on the aussie version, they just need to find the right hosts and not be afraid to stray away from the british format.

  21. Yes i do hope its not too cringe-worthy.. the corolla will definately be familiar to a few members of Rollaclub tho!
  22. KE20 alternator (no internal regulator) 2 different external regulators for KE20 (old and new) Don't have a pic handy of one of the internal regulator type alternators, but theyre a bit bigger and have a black box on the back. And less wires actually leading to the alternator. Sooo yeah make sure you have one or the other.
