  1. Redgum - i was only 19 Play this in any army "boozer" pub and they will all sing it.
  2. were their prices resonable ? happy with work ?
  3. This is myles old car yeh? with tallys old engine yeh ? the engine tally couldnt get to run right and then myles couldnt either ? if I'm wrong someone set me straight and no offense to the previous owners, but by the time the kids at toyota figure out it has no timming belt you would be better off with an older mechanic to look at it. The price to have that carby rebuilt is crazy but we paid at my work 180 to have one rebuilt and billed the customer 400 so the dealer is required to make a profit its upto the customer to be aware of what they are paying for. The kit to buy would be about 45 dollars. I would personally pull the car out of there and send it to your local more recommended professional. No offense to toyota as i work for them but its hard to find a mech in a dealership that gives two shits about a customers car. Wasnt myles messing about with the timing chain last he had it ? maybe the camshaft isnt in sync with the crankshaft making the valves opening at the wrong timing which would cause all sorts of issues. These engines are so easy to work on the 1st thing they should have done was set the valve clearances, spark plug gap, ignition dwell and point/contacts gap and a drop lean method to get the idle right. as well as checking for vacuum leaks from the exhaust/intake manifold gasket fitment or if its warped may need machining flat again as a set. brake booster holding vacuum ? base gaskets on carby sealing ? is the fuel pump diaphragm split or perished ? is the distributor timming to the camshaft correct the gears i mean as is with the camshaft in sync with the crankshaft ? Ive probably missed something but its a start if i were sorting my own engine out if i didnt know its history. Cheers hope this helps and doesnt confuse. Excuse spelling ive had 1 beer :(
  4. Sounds like you have everything covered. Few extra things like when did you last change the diff oil ? and make sure your wheel alignment is sweet. Things that commonly go wrong on a long trip fanbelt/alternator belt snapping, coolant hose magically becomes swollen and splits, fuel leaks or fuel supply problems and ignition problems such as a coil/points check the little nuts and bolts all around and inside the distributor check the wires are insulated through the distributotr housing. Id carry an extra ignition lead a long one,fan belt, coil, dizzy cap and rotor, points. spare both top and botton radaitor hoses and some heater hose and maybe a little piece of pipe like an old heater core pipe to join hoses if need be, fuses,10amp wire crimp connectors and the tool or if you good with pliers will do,10L of water, a can of "start ya bastard". Cable ties and tape as mentioned exhaust sealant, decent silicone sealant, chemiweld small assortment of screws/nuts/bolts. And of course all the tools required to deal with such problems and parts replacements or modifications. The amount of stuff i carried on the Great ocean road trip was about a 3rd of what the RAA would carry, ive only mentioned a small amout here :( Hope ive helped alot of good idea others have too. When or if get the chance id drive my AE71 to Darwin or QLD no problems.

  17. Ive been off work with the flu the other workers brought to work so for last few days going nuts and being bored but no energy to do anything. Unit today. I was feeling well enough to finish the rubback of the roof and rust tratment coating on some bare metal parts. This is all unprofesional of course, but a few things i picked up from the painting trade when a car is needed back on the road quick. Roof now 1st coat of primer to rub back. Some might say "why did you paint over the window seals and not mask the car up" well the last time the car was painted i gave a good friend at the time the car and asked for a respray while i was away in townsville for 3 months. Came back he had been rough with the roof and only 1/2 done the roof and painted over the seals. I attempted to rectify the many mistakes that were done but needed a car on the road as a daily so finished of the paintjob quickly. So as it stands I'm just sealing up the car before the winter sets in and while i wait for the shed to be built so bad rust doest set in.
  18. Nice website Tally should be proud. Id like to take one of these old rusty relic exploration cruises oneday but not atm as ive just been approved for my 12x6m shed. I'm going to the bendigo swap meet next year with 1000 bucks and a trailer as a newbie to start from there.
  19. yeh thats a good idea :D
  20. Considering how low you have it already you will need short stroke shocks, and if you going to go the shocks then the AE86/T18 ect struts will be needed. Spring choice is next, either low/heavy rate springs or coil over kit with a wide range of spring choice. The kind of height and rate of the spring will be depending on what the car is used for such as Street/daily - firm Street/hills spirited driving - firmer Track days - firmest Springs ect have been widely discussed on here but id check out the tech section and ask the guys on the AE86Drivingclub website as they are AE86/KE70/AE71 mad.
  21. sweet one of those wagon would make an awesome project/family car
  22. Those rims looks nice might con the missus into a set. The guys on Twincam.org mess about with the model car your have.
  23. Had the same problem with a customers car few weeks back. Followed the diagnosis on the manual plus logging a lean mixture code. After many hours of checking sensors and wiring, found it was the oxgen sensor was covered in carbon from poor fuel quality. cleaned if off carefully and code went away and car started to run better. NOTE! not saying this is the fix for your car as there was alot of other options in the trouble shooting section of the manual. Id be checking for blocked air filter, fouled spark plugs, vac leaks such as injector seals, manifold gaskets, vac lines ect Recheck your ignition timing. Just some of the things to check. Just give it some time there may be better answers to your question from the more knowledgable. cheers matt
