If you can use a multimeter check it all yourself, its a 90% probability that just the brushes are worn out. You can replace them yourself for about $20 with a soldering iron. Do a few little other checks too like make sure there isnt voltage drop on the battery wire and check the earthing of it. It could save you some $$ pain.

Amen,

Lifted this of a 4x4 site. Its kind of relavant to corollas in a hilarious yet sad kind of way, it just had to be shared around. :| http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread....3645&page=1

8000rpms. Has webers, cam and a little over 10 to 1 compression. Will eventually go into my rally car once i run it in in the street keto.
-
It is too, my bad.  Cheers.

Yeh i know about the decompression bit, that part is sorted. I need to know about the lifters because the ones ive pulled out are worn on the bases and i don't know what the previous guy has put in there regarding lifter-rod-rocker combination. Its got a 3k bigport head with double springs so the revs its going to be doing will probably be too hard on hydraulic lifters, best be safe now while ive got the motor apart. Do you know where i can get the 5k solid lifters from? Cheers.
-
Hey guys, If your running a 3k head on a 5k is it safe enough to assume that you can run 4k lifters with 4k pushrods and 4k rocker gear? Cheers!
-
A quick photo of the before and after honage, will continue the build once i can get the lifters refaced, they seem to be out of another motor and put on a new cam, but thank god the cam isnt showing signs of wear. More to come later.
-
I'm in, i know both the areas quite well. :P
-
If i remember to take the camera down to the garage this time, i will. :D 6cc dish would be very close to the mark.

3k bigport head, double valve springs, very shallow dished ACL pistons, aftermarket cam, double row timing chain, ACL bearings, solid lifters. Bores are pretty glazed up, everything else measures up good. Head and motor are clean as a preachers sheets on the inside. Hopefuly just a hone and some new rings and it will be going hard. :D
-
I havent split the motor up just yet, but having gone through some of the extra parts that came with the motor there is a 5k head, dished pistons, a factory cam and distributor. So I'm guessing those parts have been replaced by the 3k head, flat top or "less dished" pistons, electronic dizzy (motor has it fitted) and an aftermarket cam of some description. Motor comes apart this weekend for rebuild, I keep you guys posted. (ps, the motor came with twin 40dcoe's and manifold as well. :P )
-
I picked up a 5k on the weekend that has the numbers cast 24010-211, which isnt on the FAQ but seem to be close to the 3k bigport head. It doesnt have the protrusions from 1 and 4 plug holes either. Does anyone know what that casting means? For the moment ill just assume its a 3k bigport head. I will be pulling the motor down next week anyway because it has a bit of blowby and could do with a build anyway by the sound of it. Ill keep you all posted on what I find, but in the meantime does anyone know FOR CERTAIN what the numbers mean? Thanks guys!

Stock KE70 bought for $500, also a rally ke70 thats half finished. Considering putting the rally gear into the shitter whilst i finish of the rally car. Bilstein shocks, kings, worked 5k, locked 4.3 ratio diff. :D Mostly cruise around the Gorge or Old Pac, also long rally runs through the watagans or back of wisemans ferry. Plently of fun roads to be had.

I think pointing guns at people far outweighs "hooning" on dirt roads in the polices eyes. Makes responsible gun owners look like rednecks. Report it or your doing the world a disservice.

Just a few update pics, mostly back together, working 6 days a week really gives you no time to build. Its taken me 6 weeks just to make a custom loom for it.... :S Anyway, this is where it sits with most of the weight back in it, except the battery, tank and spare tyre, Ill keep going along.....
-
Been some time since my last confession.. Got all the front and rear suspension in, engine and box in, new clutch, Started to wire the body up by completely dismantling the entire loom and starting again to suit the location of battery, fuse panel, relays etc.... Its easier than it sounds, trust me. Little things include making a few brackets for various things, gluing felt to the dash for a really poverty WRC dash look, modiying the handbrake lever so there is no button, fitting battery box, spending too much money. blah blah blah.... Ill get some pics up soon......... Thanks!

Factory bottom end? Not bad. :lolcry:

Dry ice is the go. Worked a treat on the rally-car. If you need to remove sound deadening from more vertical places like the firewall or the sides of the tranny tunnel then get some leather gloves and harden up. Hold it there for a few mins and it works just as well. don't use a heatgun unless you have no braincells left to kill from the fumes or simply can't afford $50 odd bucks for a few kilos of dry ice.

Yes gutting the doors is also against PRC regs. AMSAG Is not 100% run-what-u-brung, your not allowed to install an engine from another manufacture, it has to have the same amount of cylenders as the factory motor and it can't be forced induction, which sucks because a twin turbo 1uz-fe was looking pretty good. Yeh...... so a 4a-ge or even a 7a-fe if I'm feeling like it will probably be swapped in the future, was thinking of a 4e-fe for something different but at the moment its in the not worth the effort basket. Plus i love 4a's, owned a 20v ae82 as a p plater way back when and it rocked. www.amsag.com.au Have a squiz........ it seems like a whole bunch of old guys living for the heyday of rallying but its not. :hmm:
-
Its not going to be run in CAMS events, its going to be raced in AMSAG. I would also need to install 4 extra bars in the cage, keep the interior flooring, not be able to stitch/reinforce the chassis, not be able to run a 4a-ge in the future, have to buy FIA approved seats and harnesses, latest model race suits.................. You get the idea. Ive read the Cams manual over and over and decided that AMSAG is just so more user freindly if you have a small budget to play with like me.

Ok, today we got the doors finished off, all the heavy as side intrusion rails are gone from the door, painted white, got the aluminuim trims cut. Painted the interior white until we ran out of paint. Looking good though! Photo of the boot panels made from 1mm aluminium. Still waiting for the suspension......... Gribble,

Dear Diary; Tonight I got the navi's seat mounts completed, the side intrusion bars of the cage fabbed and welded in, also gutted the rear doors of at least 3/4 of their origional weight, plus the perspex I'm going to add to it. Pics! Shot of both seats mounted in plus the side intrusion bars. Slightly blurry photo of the gutted rear door, side intrusion of the door has been cut out as well as the inner skin, weight is obviously also lost by lack of window reg and the window itself! These items will be for sale soon once I get the pile of random crap sorted out, so don't PM me just yet. This is just a random shot of the workshop from the mezinine floor. Just thought the car looked really good from this angle. More updates soon! Thanks all. :nervous:

Tonights update, installed the X in the main hoop, took a while with trying to get the fishmouths right but the resule is excelent! Also chucked the seat in to measure up where the harness bar will go, then run out of time..... always tomorrow though. ENJOY! :D

Hey all. Gribble here from Sydney. Just thought id share some info on my little Rally Project I'm currently building. Its going to be a fairly straight forward KE70, 4k, 5 speed, totally stripped interior, bilstein shocks, adm ae86 brakes, cage, seats, harnesses etc etc. Nice and simple for a starter. So far ive gotten the shell totally stripped down, I have removed the sound deadening from the interior and 90% of the crap tar stuff from underneath. Ive begun to stitch the chassis seams together to gain some torsional rigidity. Next step is to do the seat mountings and the cage. PICS! Ok ive finally uploaded some pics of the build. Here goes..... This is how it began, an ugly matte black abortion. Starting the strip down. Unaborted the matte black exterior down to bare metal and shot coated to prevent rust. Also note the lack of sound deadener on the floor! Dry Ice FTW! Alot of time has passed between this photo and the last one. I built a rotissire to enable me to weld the seams and chassis rails stiffer to increase the torsional rigidity of the chassis and allow the suspension to do what its supposed to do properly. Also the rollcage installation has begun and the lowered seat mounts for the race seats. And how it currently sits in the workshop. Waiting on the suspension to arrive. WHitelines front and rear, kings front and rear, full noltec bush kit including adjustable camber/castor tops. Oh and Bilstein shocks for all 4 corners. YIPPEE!!! So thats it so far. Its slooooowly nearing completion but there is still alot of work left to do. Thanks! -Gribble-
