  1. Does anyone have a picture of a 2TC alternator molex connector? I'm trying to figure out if the E(ground) is part of the F & N molex connector, or if the alternator grounds itself via the bolt to the block. I have the stock conncetor, but its so old and cruddy that I can't tell if it has a third wire that was sheared off. The molex connector I did pick up is for GM cars, but its only a two prong connector and not a third. Funny thing is it fits perfectly into the alternator. Stock is on left. Stock connector fitted to alt. You can see the E male spade rests against the stock connector. If I rotate the molex 180, it won't insert completely into the alt. New connector fitted to alt.. You can see the E male spade rests against the stock connector too. If I rotate the molex 180, it won't insert completely into the alt too. So this makes me wonder if there is a ground wire from the alt. at all. If there is indeed a third wire that needs to be connects, no one here in the states(that I can find anyway) sells a replacement 3-prong molex connector, so I was planning on just using a female spade connector with a #10 to the block. **Edit** Just found a three prong molex connector... new question... Where does this ground to? The wiring diagram just shows and earth ground, but does anyone know at what point it actually grounds to? Trying to save the trouble of cutting the stock loom and following the wire...
  2. It's an 1976 2TC 1588cc Corolla. Not sure if SR5 or DLX, how can you tell? Thanks for all the input so far.
  3. I noticed the wiring for the alternator was disconnected, but I'm not sure what hooks up where. As you can see from the picture there are 4 wires that are close to the alt. They must all go to the alt as they are the only wires within close proximity to the alt. The far bottom left wire(cream colored) I believe goes to the post. o nthe back of the alt., but am looking for agreement. This wire disapears into the wiring loom, and shows itself back at the positive battery post. That's assuming it is the same wire anyway. I'm not sure what the yellow/black stripe wire goes to, and the red and green wire had a molex connector that broke off. I'm assuming this went to the alt. as well. I need clarification on the following: red/green - goes to the instrument cluster. Which would explain the CHG light on in the dash. I would need to buy a molex connector to replace the one broken. cream colored - goes to the battery positive. It looks like it goes to a relay that is located next to the battery. yellow/black stripe - ???? Any help would be nice!
  4. This is only the second one I found. I was looking at a 4-dour sedan that was in horrible shape. The interior was completely gutted, and the body had rust, holes etc. They wanted $1K for it. Laughed when I walked away. Hopefully I can find some people near me. I'm still trying to figure out if it's an SR5 or the DLX model.
  5. Hi all, just pick up a 1976 Toyota Corolla yesterday for a little over $500. Bought it from a previous mechanic, but there's a good indication that he didn't do much on it besides the basics. I'm not sure if it's a DLX or an SR5. I'm thinking it's a DLX since it's a 4 speed manual. Although there are louvers in the hood right where the air filter intake is, usually an indication of the "sport" model. It has the 1588cc motor(1.6L?) 2TC. The power plant is completely dirty, and typical of older models, there are tubes and wires going to nowhere. So far I've made a list to basically replace ALL the tubing since pats are so cheap. I drove this 60 miles to get it home on the freeway without incident, so it leads me to believe the power plant is in decent working order. Before I drove it home, I stopped at Checkers to get a new air filter(was almost %100 black) and a new battery. The alternator light was on, which I was told about from the owner, but found out later that the alternator was not even hooked up! There was NO 4ga. going to the battery! So far I've bought parts for an oil change, cap and rotor, plugs and wires, new battery cables, and carb. cleaner Will keep everyone posted if interested! a few pics! Some hardcore audio! Power plant No cable from alternator to battery! Car info. Dirty dirty! One of the many missing tubes!
