I've heard the same thing, amazing offroad, but go through fuel like it's going out of style, and break down for no apparent reason....... One I never had the pleasure of meeting went into limp home mode 100km from Launceston because of the ECU picking up that the engine had some kind of major malfunction, as such, 50kph for the remainder of the trip, turned out "that happens all the time" according to the mechanic who had no idea how to fix it. Not quite sure how it got fixed, but eventually it ran again, just long enough to get sold........ Unfortunately, Jeep owners (That I've come across) tend to think they have the greatest offroad vehicle ever, and then get pissy when they can't go where the "poor mans 4wd" <--Quoting a Jeep driver, bounces up without a hassle. I may be a tiny bit biased, but Jeeps are for posing at the beach, or carting a bootload of screaming kids to school. /end rant. Turns out, Hummers aren't as tough as some think........

Yep, makes sense. Have a look at ARB's range of rock sliders, they'll help with your sill damage issue....... Yes, there is a considerable difference in the coil/leaf articulation as far as droop goes, but the truck in that picture was essentially stock, and I'm having drop shackles installed on the good one eventually so that I get much better down travel when wheeling. It does, and I'm sure it did, I just bought that one for a thrasher/learning truck and found out it could do what I told it to....... Stoked! Happy wheeling to you too. *Edit* I spelled wrong :no2: :lolcry:

And Who Said You Needed A 4 Wheel Drive?
Toy-Yoda replied to Clapped out's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
 That's brilliant......... I love the idea of having extra people over the rear for better traction....... MOAR! That is all. :lolcry: -
It's sad but true, I have to agree, the stock Hilux LSD is useless on anything more troublesome than a nature strip, hence "decent LSD". You say you'd lock the front and not the rear, are you saying with the LSD or an air locker? And why would you lock the front anyway? Unless you mean just to get over something and you need to scramble a bit........ Here's a few pics of my old one, I haven't finished setting the new one up yet, but when I do I'll go and get some decent flexing pics....... I'll see if I can find some better pics of the old one later....... 1984 single cab, 22R, 2.0 Diesel exhaust, 32 inch Mongrels, load carrying springs in the rear (Front stock height, rear raised maybe half an inch), ARB bars. These pics don't show the full extent of the flex it was capable of, but should give you some idea........ Was fun though...... And yeah, Hummers fail. :lolcry:

*Edit* :lolcry: @ sleeping cow syndrome, I like it....... 1: Mine does, and it has leaves front and rear, which means it has a real diff in the front. Never had any troubles out of the leaf rear end, so I don't quite get what you're trying to say...... Air lockers and decent LSD's are worth their weight in gold when you're off road and I'd take either before getting bigger tires or a lift kit. 2: Ok, fair enough, they have been known to fall over, but in fairness it's usually because the owner/driver has added height without adding any width, or he/she (gotta keep this fair) is doing something stupid. I honestly don't know anything about discoverys, so I won't comment. *Note* I'm not trying to start a flame war or a pissing contest, I'm just saying that in the time that I have spent going trail running I've never come across anything I can't get over around or through with a bit of thought, a dash of common sense, and patience because sometimes it takes more than one go. Peace, Yoda.

Amen brother. Always worked for me.

I'd love to know what makes you think that....... I haven't found anywhere that I can't go in mine....... with a little bit of determination, a lack of regard for your paint, low range and a heavy right foot, virtually anything can be driven up......... :y: I think I've watched that episode about 50 times now, just to see jeremy get pushed into the water again.........
-
:y: Wow dude, thanks for the info, I'm gonna go shopping! Then I'm gonna get this car going (assuming tomorrow works out), then I'll have to hide the magnet switch somewhere nasty and evil where I'll forget it and crack the shits while trying to find it......... This will be fun. Ta heaps man. Yoda.
-
Yeah, i was talking about the auto shifter, I figure if I pull it to bits, I can work out which wires are triggered without the trial and error thing........ And the kill switch idea is a thought, where do I get one of those magnet switches?
-
4th is brilliant, provided I have the car running again by then of course........ because it's a Sunday! :hmm: If all goes well tomorrow I'm in. Probably with a dodgy tune and an open diff, but if the engine goes in tomorrow, I'm so there........
-
Thanks heaps for the tip, I'll look into it during daylight hours...... I had a thought too while I was at work, I'll pull the shifter itself apart and work out which wires trigger each switch......... Cheers for your help. Yoda.

As title says, I'm in the middle of an auto to manual conversion with a KE70, and I've disconnected everything leading to the gearbox, now the engine won't start at all........ :hmm: I've had a dig around and the only information I can find says that there are a couple of wires leading to the auto shifter that only allow the car to start in "Park", could someone help me by telling me what wires I need to cross so that the car starts every time? Thanks heaps in advance........Yoda.

First off, more epic coffee! This time it's epic coffe next to a normal sized coffee.......... And secondly, now that I'm getting around to doing something with Tofu, I'm using parts, parts are coming from ALL the generations of my previous KE70's, so the end result is 3 Ketos in my little backyard........ :jamie: ORB Mk I, ORB Mk II, and Tofu, 3 KE70's, 1 running, 1 almost running, and 1 slightly worse for wear.

Minority women drivers in tiny hatchbacks......... 25 in a 60 zone, then back right into a shiny Mazda 3........... On her "L"s..........

Dude, I have a 4K! It just won't die but hills confuse it!! But then again, hills mean corners, and corners means skids........ I think I'm gonna have fun...... :nervous:
-
This may only be conjecture, but lightweight pistons, rods, and a well balanced crank *should* allow a 7K to rev reasonably happily AFAIK. Or just leave it for a bit then supercharge it to really rip up stumps...... :nervous:
-
Sounds like a goer, May 4th is a good date, because it's a Sunday!! And I should have Tofu rolling 4 forward gears via man-shift by then too!! :nervous: I can't think of many roads west of Launnie that'll be fun off the top of my head though....... Someone want to PM me some Google Earth Co-ordinates to give me some idea of where we'll be heading please? *looks to Si* /rubs hands in anticipation.......
-
Your talk of Supercrap has just reminded me, I ordered a set of spark plugs through them for my old Daihatsu Charade because they didn't have any in stock, they still haven't contacted me about them....... (they must be rare :nervous: ) Keep in mind I sold this car 3 years ago........ |blink|

The cup was big enough for my new kitten to sleep in.......and he's 8 weeks old......... I realise now that I should have used my drivers licence as a size comparison measure, will have to do that soon........ More epic coffee coming soon! :hmm:
-
Went out for breakfast this morning, ask for a coffee, get an EPIC COFFEE!!!! That f@$ker was YOOG!
-
Out doing some cruise duty today and randomly came across this....... Own up, who's is it? :hmm: *Edit* Excuse the shite pic, no cam, just phone.......

Jeremy Clarkson deserves everything he gets plus more, the pixel faced man did him a favour by showing him first hand the dangers of falling into the water in that environment.......... But yeah, loved that episode, was a good laugh.........
