  1. the CRX's as are most honda's are great cars, but the only downside to the crx is the panels are hard to find and if you do find any, they will be expensive
  2. ...or instead of going to all this trouble you could put http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_heatshield.htm this heat shield between the extractors and starter someone used this between the turbo exaust and inlet and blocked so many 100's of degrees celcius just a thought max
  3. i have some history behind my corolla now... dad met the son of the orignal owner this arvo, to 1- get the receipt for the car from when they gave it to the wreckers and 2- get the history behind it what amazed me about its life is that the owner before the last gave it to him (which was her son), she bought it brand new, she's 90 years old now. and my car has got a whopping Genuine 50 000 odd kms on it :) the previous owner saw a photo of it just being freshly painted and loved it it should be surprising what the original owner will think of what it's become
  4. took my head and block into the engine rebuilders today it seems that my motor only had 8.5:1 compression when it was stock, but that was soon fixed :P i got 8 thou taken off the block so my pistons reched the top of it and also got 40 thou taken off the head all that made it add up to 10.67:1 compression :P i also got my valves faced and the seats reseated all is good in the world of 4k max
  5. more piccys, balanced rod and piston (note grind marks on rod) balanced to 0.1g :P crank going in with old pistons on rods, ready for new ones now all alloy 4k :P max
  6. more updates, i went to the panelbeaters on friday aparantly they had been cutting rust out of it for about 2 weeks, the body is painted and the bonnet was being repaired and rubbed down, the paint is amazing for how cheap it was, plenty of sparkle :P the engine block currently has the crank in, my pistons and rods are balanced and ready to go in
  7. yeah i get an extra 44cc with it too! thats pathetic i know... lol max
  8. I decided to get off my arse and update this... i ended up getting the rebuild kit for less that $395 ($325 in fact) with 60 thou oversized pistons :no2: the mighty 4k is down at the rebuilders, getting bored out and i will take the head in to get shaved when i get back from my holiday. panelbeater/painter has taken my car away from me today aswell and hopefully should be done when i get back too I've also had some more innovations for my engine :y: I got 4k efi gear with a haltech programable computer, and tidied up the wiring harness, got a bigger throttle body (from a hyundai excell, lol) fine tuned my water injection system by running two windscreen washer pumps in-line to produce 45 psi and having that triggered by a vacuum switch on a relay designed a cold air intake with a commodore/liberty airbox I'm going to make an insulator spacer for my intake runners got thermo fans to replace the engine fan and i've also got a bigger radiator from a ae90/nova, which are cheap to buy new aluminium cored ones ($150!) and best of all, i got this copper one free max
  9. the length of the intake changes what rev your car makes more tourque, by harmonics/resonant pulses i.e. the air that has gone into the engine creates a vacuum in the runner, the air rushing into the runner to replace the vacuum meets the valve/s as they are opening, makeing volumetric efficiencies of up to 130% the longer your runners, the lower the rev this occurs
  10. use a compressor and blast it with air :hmm: or you could sit down with a jewelers screwdriver
  11. How old is the radiator? because it could be blocked, or completely stuffed and if (or when) you have air pockets, you should blead them out max
  12. yes, well it's mates rates
  13. more updates! pulled the engine out on sunday, dad went to the engine rebuilders to get a price on a rebuild kit and it costs $395 (thats with all gaskets, rings, bearings and new pistons) but, i got some oversized pistons from camerondownunder and the rebuild kit's probably going to be less than half that price :P dad also took the front guards, grill surround, apron and bonnet down to the panelbeaters today to get them painted :D max
  14. you can do it alot neater than that if your radiator has a threaded hole in the bottom (or you can make one) to put your thermo switch in or if you know what your doing :)
  15. you'll also need a relay and a fuse for the switch otherwise it's going to stuff the fuse inside the fan have a look at this: http://autospeed.com/cms/A_2015/article.html
  16. it's the tappets, mine does it too no real harm just quite annoying but, you probably should tighten them if they're really loud
  17. More updates took my car apart yesterday so i could get the panels into the panelbeaters :y: 873: DSC00290.JPG] dad's going to take them in on monday i've also designed a ram-air box out of aluminium to go behind the grill max
  18. Update! sorry i didn't respond to these question's... i forgot so here goes: .i didn't get him off ebay-(from the wreckers if you read :D ) .i've seen one other liftback like mine, i saw it up in brissy, lovely orange colour, aparantly there's another liftback around ballina area more updates: i forgot to add to my list that i'm going to water inject it to stop detonating and at the moment i have a system relying on manifold vacuum, sucking air through the bottom of a washer bottle and it sucks the water droplets through the oil breather hose (it kinda works like a bong) that's the picture of the washer bottle with the air cleaner to the left that's a picture of the line with water vapour going into the oil breather hose that's a top veiw of the hoses with the vapour (and yes it is a bit hard to see) that system was based on this: www.greaseolineplus.com/page2.html my new system is one based loosly off these : http://autospeed.com/cms/A_110369/article.html and http://autospeed.com/cms/A_110368/article.html my dad is putting water injection in his wrx boat and he had some irrigation foggers left over that run at 50psi , i decided to try it with a windscreen washer motor which runs at 2-3psi, it worked... :) so i did some simple tests to work out how long my 1.5l washer bottle could take this flow i timed it with a stopwatch and a measuring jug and found it ran at 50ml per minute, that makes 200 minutes per litre which in turn is about 300 minutes (or 5 hours) for my bottle :P my other modification i am hoping to get is an efi setup-fingers crossed i'm looking to take him apart in another 3-4 weeks and painted over the chrissy holidays max p.s. if you noticed i was reffering to my car as him, yes he has a name, louie :argh:
  19. well, the supercharger is always pumping out the same amount of boost unlike a turbo and yeah the boost controller either uses vacuum to operate the wastegate or it can use the pressure from the supercharger itself to operate the wastegate and it alters the amount the wastegate is open for how much boost you program it for, one more thing, why do you want the carby on the pressure side? i reakon that it's much better on the suction side because it has an intercooling effect and much easier to plumb, but thats my opinion :laff:
  20. yeah i think so, my dad's doing a similar setup with his boat (sc14 on a wrx motor!) and hes mounting his wastegate between the intercooler and the throttle body-(same thing as mounting it between the charger and inlet manifold) and he's using a boost controller to change the amount of vacuum supplied to the wastegate so yeah i think it'd work the same with a blow off valve instead of the wastegate(less expensive but not as strong) max
  21. i've got a system like this on my car except the hose goes through the tappet breather, i got my ideas/plans from this website though http://www.greaseolineplus.com/page2.html max
  22. have you heard it before it was loud like, when it was quiet? and from what i read it sounds like a big end max
  23. 1.yes, its called a wastegate, operated by vacuum or you could get a boost controller that alters the boost level with a wastegate 2.the motor will still suck air through the supercharger when the clutch is not engaged, i.e. the lobes will move at their own speed relative to how much the engine is sucking
  24. well... chassis number says otherwise...
  25. hey everyone, this is only my second topic ( you may remember dohc 4k) last august i saved a ke55 two door lift back from the wreckers with only its motor attached (no g'box, tailshaft or diff centre ) and seeing as dad knew the owner i bought it for scrap value-$100 i bought some mesh from super cheap and went crazy with it, cut my air cleaner box thingy and meshed the air cleaner and meshed the grill i also got some 5 spoke mags for $80 to replace the mix-match steel rims (you'll also see a racing seat in there, one of my ideas that didnt work) it took a while before i got a 5-speed box tailshaft and borg warner style diff then i got it running ive been using it as a part paddock-basher, part driving learning tool since then and it's soon to be pulled apart my plans are to:1. paint it (and get all the rust out) 2. take the engine apart 3. shave the head 4. put extractors on it 5. bore it out 40-thou i've bought the paint two days ago, it's a cool metalic blue nissan colour (probably from a n14/n15 pulsar) and it only cost me $610 (with thinners, hardener etc) which is cheap as chips seeing as it costs as much as a solid colour (thats the lid of the tin of paint in the sun) so all's well and this is something for me to do before i turn 16 :hmm:
