Takumi Tax Rates set to increase.

I always wonder if people like this are taking the piss, or really believe that someone will pay that much. -
I asked the ebay guy for the same measurements for the rabbit bilsteins. body length 320, compressed 430Extended 545 diameter 38. Stroke 115

Hi James welcome to the forum. There is a great deal of experience and enthusiasm on here, and the forum is still pretty active despite the drift to faceplant. Other than some pretty dubious info given out on the FB sites, the other great advantage of the forum is that you can easily search for info, the vast majority of which has been asked before. Can't do that on FB. Also have a good look at the rides forum for some inspiration. It's actually quite easy to load photos by the way. The inner wheel arch plate has long been unavailable, and second hand ones are rarely usable. But not to hard to fabricate a replacement. Rust is common in the rear pockets, bottom of front guard (due t those plates) and the front and rear sills. Also under the rear quarter windows. Really after nearly 50 years, they can rust anywhere. Well worth taking out the seats and carpets and having a good look. VIN numbers didn't exist when these were built, so you rely on the body number. Virtually all after market parts are pretty poor quality, and the dash pads are no exception. OEM can still be got with a bit of hunting, but expect to be paying around $300. It's not hard to retrofit a booster with twin circuit master cylinder. It's been discussed often on the forum. A booster doesn't improve braking performance, just how hard you need to push the pedal. Won't actually stop any better. Spoilers I can't help with, but they were never available when new. Anything available is a generally a Bodge job and needs to be screwed to the body. Not really a great idea. Webers are a topic of their own and a lot depends on the condition of the carb/s themselves. Then it's about balancing and tuning, and don't forget the general condition and tune of the engine.

I know Harvie went with KE2x struts when he built his (work done by .T.) 4AGZE KE15. I gather it wasn’t simple but not aware of the specifics. Stu, I have some NOS KE1x lower arm bushes if that helps your measurements, if that is what you are making. Happy to send you one.

The yellow plug on the left with the rubber cap edit: the black cap. Use a short piece of wire with a male crimped terminal at each end.

Sorry, let me clarify that. Toyota ECU’s don’t fail. Mindful that you’re the guy who modifies carbie jets with an angle grinder as I recall.... Stupid app won’t let me put an emoji in, but I’m a bit old for all that anyway.

See bilsteins fitted in a Datsun 1200 strut here http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=24043

These ones https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/bilstein-strut-insert-vw/332450561866?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 One of the links I posted earlier does comment that some brands seem to have a slightly narrower fitment, whilst as Jono says, other don't fit There are also some KYB excel G's https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-Cabriolet-Jetta-Rabbit-Front-Suspension-Strut-Cartridge-KYB-Excel-G-361005/351444081785?hash=item51d3b31c79:g:NOYAAOSwjVVVln~N But yes, they would be a punt to buy unmeasured. And we don't even know anything about these regarding length or stroke.

I had a look at a Tokico listing I have. Unfortunately it doesn’t include any measurements as I had hoped to isolate some options. And interestingly has no listing at all for an RX7. There are some rabbit bilsteins in Ringwood on eBay, but looking at the pics, I’m not sure how they locate in a macpherson strut. I think the rabbit inserts sound most likely to have upgrade options that are also available, at least after a quick look on eBay, as long as they can be installed in the strut and aren’t too far out in the other measures.

Some interesting stuff here http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Strut_Insert_Part_Numbers and explore the links. Bilsteins! https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/sa-versus-fb-strut-cartridges-detailed-dimensions-970339/

Actually looking just now in the Tokico catalogue, TE20 & TE25 inserts are the same size. Only TE27 are larger

No, that is what Cameron said in his ad for the springs. He is pretty clued up though, and I wouldn't be surprised if Stu is looking into the options now. The main problem of course is finding something with the right diameter. It's easy enough to space something up. Spacing down is a little harder unless you know someone with a lathe. Essentially you need to find something that will fit into the strut tube, with sufficient stroke. If you are going sporty, you won't need as much stroke, but you need to match it to your spring compression range so you don't bottom your inserts out and wreck them. And in a model that can be obtained in a sport or adjustable option. Shouldn't be too hard.....

Well there are mechanics, and then there are mechanics. I would do a compression check, make sure the cam timing is right, ignition timing is right & replace the fuel filter. Then I would go here http://www.aeu86.org/technical/ae86-manuals/ and download the 4AGE Diagnostics manual. It looks complicated, but really it isn't. Make sure the throttle position sensor is set properly and follow the various diagnostic charts. You will need a multimeter but they aren't expensive. These engines are pretty foolproof, as long as the sensors are set correctly and the basics like compression and timing are correct. ECU's don't fail, neither do coil / igniters. Keep it simple and work through methodically and it will run great.

Do you mean the shock absorber within the strut tube? That shouldn't happen unless the top nut holding the strut into the tube comes undone. Or has the nut that sits at the very top of the shock absorber piston rod that you see from inside the engine bay come undone? Either way it should be possible to put it back together again. Original fitment didn't have a cartridge insert inside the tube, rather a piston assembly that sits in a bath of oil. Unless either nut has come undone, I fail to see how the strut can seize on full droop, and if the nut has come undone, it should be repairable. If it is a KE20, the strut insert cartridges that go into a TE21 which is the other Corolla model that came out in the states, will not fit.

Measurement of a NOS Tokico strut cartridge S1002 Standard fitment Body length. 430mm Base body to top piston on maximum compression 495mm Base body to top piston on maximum extension. 685mm Piston stroke 190mm Body diameter 38mm

Not slipping? Otherwise all that can really go wrong is if the pressure plate bolts haven't been torqued up properly. But don't forget, that they had to remove the gearbox and lots of other things to replace the clutch. Possibly it is coming from somewhere other than the clutch itself. Exhaust bracket, starter, anywhere really.

Was as easier to find than expected Custom Made front coil springs Had these made for my KE1X suspension up grade. I ran stock struts with either stock/RX7/KP61/TRD shocks/KE1X konis with KE20 top hats and my custom made camber tops with no front leaf spring and a sway bar. Custom made wound to 245mm length at 4.5kg. Wound with KE10 bottom and KE20 top to suit KE20 top spring mounts. must have for handeling up grade. Cost heaps sell cheap $80 I
-
Camerondownunder had a pair of custom made springs made for the ke20 into Ke15 strut modification. He didn’t get round to using them, and sold them to me. Currently sitting on the shelf till I get some time (kids move out....) ill see if I can find the ad and if there was any detail, but failing that you could PM him and ask
-
I’ll try and get measurements for you tomorrow. The sway bar issue isn’t an issue if you let Todd Selby know you need the sway bar for a disc brake front and get him to make it to slightly different measurements Scroll down to the end of the thread. I think it was Tommyske11 who gave me these pics

https://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lowering_KE1x_Front_using_KE2x_parts There are supposedly some thinner AW11 inserts, at least in the interweb talk. Not sure anyone has found them though. I have some KE1x inserts if you need measurements

Cup Holder and Mounting options for KE20
parrot replied to sskoul's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Japan is the home of cup holders. Super autobacs basically have an entire row devoted to them. A good place to check out in Australia if you have one in the area, is Daiso. The big decision is whether you are prepared to drill or not...... -
Take the plugs out and start again, and make sure the clearances are tight.
