Well no, of course the big axles are stronger. But then stronger is all relative and it depends on the amount of abuse you intend giving it. Disc brake rear ends are pretty pricey and you are unlikely to know whether it is a small or large axle unit till you pull the centre out. As mentioned, the large axles are very hard to find and the tercel ones are not a direct replacement. Of course the centre you get needs to match the axles in size. These large axle T series rear ends are only found in late AE86's never delivered in Australia. If you are concerned, you can always spend the money on the hiace conversion at the added cost of extra weight. Otherwise you could bolt in a T18 rear end which will be fine for width (don't forget to factor this into your thinking), and axles are available fairly easily, plus a T series LSD will bolt in.

Interesting. This was the conclusion I had come to for my KE25 which would run exactly the same set up except I will likely run 13 x 6's. What offset are your wheel? I was thinking I would still need to cut the diff down.

I think you will find this isn't a solution. I presume however a Bank of New Zealand account would be fine. Though I imagine they only exist within Australia in capital cities.

I think they may have changed the rules to say you must have a NZ bank account. No one over there seems to know what paypal is. An international money transfer is very expensive. I have bought a few small things and sent cash in the post. One big thing that required a bank transfer was a painful process.

Hmm thanks guys. 45mm might be manageable. I might keep a look out for a rear end then. Will be a while before I get to do it as I need to relocate my AE86 first so I can work on the KE25......

I will be putting a 4AGE in my KE25 and plan to put a T series rear in it for various reasons (I have a shed load of AE86 stuff, centres, rear discs etc) plus PCD for wheels I am thinking TA23, RA23 rather than TA22 due to axle strength /bearing size. Has anyone else on here done this and has the extra width been problematic? The car will have flares eventually but would be nice not to have to modify guards or shorten the differential. Have searched high and low and not found anything specific. I don't wish to go Nissan or any other manufacturer. I realise I need to take of the spring seats etc. TA23/RA23 is I believe 1365mm drum to drum, and I am getting varying figures for an KE25. Unfortunately my car is very awkwardly placed to measure. does anyone have a diff out of a car that can be easily measured?

It isn't that simple. What ECU are you running? If it is a standard ECU then it won't know the injectors have got bigger and therefore you will flood the engine as it will send pulses according to MAP etc assuming the injectors are 182cc. All you will do is wash your bores. You also need to take into account what resistance the injectors are, high or low. Standard bigport are low impedence - around 2ish ohm, and from memory 3SGE are high - around 13 ohm. Your injector drivers can't cope with this. However, if you are running an aftermarket ECU, things are different. Having said all that, I am going to try some 225cc series 1 1GGTE low impedence injectors in my bigport running a standard Jap ECU and an old HKS F-con piggyback fuel computer.

This is a bit old sorry, but have been trawling through the forum looking for an answer. I have nearly finished my AE86 resto and have a 1973 KE25 to move onto next. I see a lot of references to the early and late KE20/25. I see in the history build thread that "a minor face lift occurred in September 1971." What is the build date at which the changes came in? I realise mine is a late.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but which Thai seller did you get them from as there are a few. I have been looking at them too.
