  1. eek the decade of shame. Not if it decent paint and if it looked after.
  2. I'd go bright red but I'm biased
  3. Stick with the stocker until it breaks. A worked 5k shouldn't stress it to much.
  4. simmons, dragway, neales all make custom rims
  5. first set I had was complete and cost me $25 :P
  6. Shit, I must have been lucky. The twins I had (two different sets on different 5k's) were both set and forget. Didn't drop out of tune, actually idled better than a single carby, and gave the same economy as well. Hell even the insurance company liked them  But as I have never ran a weber I can't compare. I had all the troubles cameron had as the second set started off with just a manifold that I was given. Had to suss out a linkage set up (old fuel hose linking the throttle shafts) and use standard single carbs. Aircleaners were modified aftermarket housings originally made for Holden carbies with Corolla bases welded in to them. Pisses me off that I let go a complete 3k-b set up in good nick when I sold my first rolla :P
  7. yes, both Cameron and myself are/have run these. Make sure you find a setup that is complete, as linkages and aircleaners are hard to set up if they are missing. I know :P
  8. Try a commercial wrecker for a 5K/7k since they came from liteace's. May find one.
  9. anyone with a hydrolic press.
  10. First 5K cost me close to $800 15 or so years ago. Second one $100
  11. I was running KE70 front brakes with Girlock calipers. Shit pads I think. Would be ok for a short time but after a decent mountain fang it would come to the point where suddenly it got very interesting. Actually worked out which corner it would happen on between Colac and Apollo Bay. 90 degree left with no armco and a dirty big cliff on the outside :P
  12. Used to do the same with my 5k'd KE35. Towed a camper all over the place. Used to do it easy until I had to go down hills. Would get some serious brake fade......
  13. And was still quick as. Enough to make me look silly on most, sorry, all occasions :P We had a party when Rob went north :)
  14. On a previous 5k, a shved 5k head made a decent improvement. Instead of 4th gear going up a couple of local hills I could use 5th.
  15. Ran motorkhanas, khanacrosses & autocrosses for over ten years. Ran the 5k, cost $100 from the local paper :'( for six or so of those. All theat was done internally was the cam and a set of shells. This isn't the best video but this is it in action . This test was really to tight to let it have its head. Others that day would see the shift light on constantly, set at 7500rpm. I would baffle the sump if you are going to operate on bitumen as the g forces generated would be much higher than I would generate on dirt. Maybe just install a huge oil light and see how it goes. If you have an issue, then you could do your sump or see what people running Corolla's in hillclimbs have done. Cost wasn't an issue for me Cameron, as I had no money to throw away, I just reused everything that I had unless it was stuffed . If it was, I then looked at what was in the shed or the old mans workshop and used what I could. That id why my KE20 was running a KE30 radiator, truck exhaust tubing, ke35 front brakes converted back to ke20 pattern etc........ I may be seem like I'm talking myself up, but I know a number of people who went down the track of doing this or that cause it was the done thing and they have ended up not going any quicker than me. I think this was down to weight as my KE20 had undergone a serious diet.
  16. There are no KE10 shirts that I can see but check out this site for old school car t shirts clicky
  17. Personally, you would be better spending your time and money on better suspension. Its no good having decent power if you can't put it to the ground.
  18. standard - never had any issues with oil pressure. Only issue I had was when I was doing motorkhanas with constant right hand (I think?) corners. The oil would pool in the rocker cover and end up being sucked into the engine through the manifold. Instant smoke screen. Shit myself when it first happened :'( . I was waiting for the death rattles, but all was good. A catch can would have fixed it but it was so infrequent I couldn't be stuffed.
  19. solid conversion - a lot of stuffing around for little gain. As I said before, I had no issues running beyond 8000 rpm with hydrolics. Basically unless you are chasing BIG revs, I feel it is more wank value.
  20. fair enuff
  21. Yeah you prick. Still haven't forgiven you for your last motorkhana in Vic - stealing a class win from me :y: :S
  22. all you guys spending big bucks on pistons, balancing etc :y: My 5k ran standard bottom end and head, 3kb carbs and manifold, 4 into 1 extractors and a 2" zorst. Ran a thermo fan, electric fuel pump and a self modded dizzy Cam was reground to a Wade 169(?) spec. This would easily rev to 8000rpm and did so for years and was extremely competitive in club events. This is why I question buying aftermarket pistons......
  23. it appears whereis is useless for areas away from major cities. I have the same problem as KE70 from Mt Panarama
  24. Personal preference would be a 3K if you can not get a 5K but a 4K would be ok. These are the specs from my old 5k Extractors and 2" exhaust cam 3kb carby set up (factory twins) plus a few other things :y: In a KE20 this was an extremely competitive combination with the ability to win outright.
  25. Many many moons ago in Vic, if it was under 1600cc it was ok. So my KE35 was registered legally with a 5k. Insurance was ok with it as well - even running the twins etc was ok :)
