  1. I backed off at an indicated 160kmh in my high comp 5k powered ke35. On a private test track of corse :D Shit when the windows got sucked off their rubbers at about 140 or so.
  2. or drop in a 5k with upped compression, cam, carbs and zorst :D
  3. had experience with 3, 4 & 5k's and in order it would be 5k - love torque 3k - not a bad motor 4k - sorry it should of been tied to a rope and used as an anchor. All will bolt in with basically no mods in the later corollas and all external accessories bolt up. I found no issues finding parts for 5k's either. Repco had all of the stuff needed and the engine builder had no issues getting pistons etc to suit. Had too 5k powered Corollas over the years (KE35 and KE20) and both were lots of fun in different ways :D due to different mods. One was a torque monster and the other was built to rev to 8000rpm +
  4. just fit up another electric pump.
  5. Yeah, it opened my eyes the first time I grabbed the hand brake when I ran there. Ran out of lock really quick :( don't think they liked me when all of the mud and crap from doing dirt motorkhanas for years dropped out from under the car just befor the finish garage. Made it a bit hard for everyone to stop for a while :blinks:
  6. I remember that surface was slippery back in the day. Looks like it hasnt changed much
  7. When doing the head gasket on my old ED, a spanner slipped out of my old mans hand when it was just about finished. It went straight down one of the oil galleries and into the sump. The bloody thing didnt even touch the sides - nothing but net.
  8. First one was $700 odd dollars way back (over 15 years ago??), second one cost $100 but needed a set of big end bearings.
  9. I should tell you that the set in my previous post cost nothing :) Was given a manifold and I pieced it from there. That is why it doesnt have the proper linkages and so on. The previous set I had I picked up for $25 from a swap meet complete with factory linkages and aircleaner :P
  10. Have a look here as well clicky
  11. The tosser in the speed boat who had to just soak me while I was canoeing down the Murray with my wife and kids. We were hard up against the bank where we were supposed to be but they still had to come up behind us and spray water over us from a couple of feet away while filming it from the boat. They decided to come back and appologise once they realised we had taken the rego of their boat. F*&%KEN W&*KERS!
  12. or fill it with grease if you run out of adjustment
  13. Standard bottom ends are pretty tough. My 5k would consistently pull 7500-8000rpm during motorkhanas and did so for years.
  14. Its your car - do what you want. If others don't like it, to bad.
  15. Never took photos of all of the parts cars Ive had over the years. It was pick up a KE20/25 for $90, drag it home and strip anything decent out of them for my racer. Then get rid of the rest before my mum would crack the shits. Sorta sad when I think back f all of the salvagable early rollas we killed back then. Spewin I wrecked a KE26 :laff: Think the best parts car we got was a 55. Originally looked at it for the 5 speed for $250 but got the whole car for $200 :D Used the motor, box, brakes, suspension etc in my KE35 and an ex's KE20. The seats and hand brake ended up in an EH. Wasn't much left of that one when we had finished. My uncle even stripped what bolts and nuts he could out of it.
  16. how do you know if they have been stored properly. Were they kept out of direct sunlight? Were they rotated on the shelf so they were not sitting on the same part of the tyre for the last 10 years? etc...
  17. Only problem with those is that they will probably by hard from age and if they have not been stored properly they may have flat spots etc.
  18. There are also differences between early ke20ish and later gearboxes. One bolthole on the drivers side is half a hole out. Both Jap and Borgy KE30 axels can be used to do this as long as the KE20 diff matches. ie Jap to Jap, Borgy to Borgy
  19. The worst thing you can do for motorkhanas etc. is to go to big with you cam. You will be on and off the throttle and if you drop off the cam you are just leaking time. Used to see a lot of cars compete and everything would be coming on song when it was time to back it off again. Personally, I found a Wade 169 grind ideal in a 5k. No noticable lag down low and a good top end. Would be more aggressive in a 4k though. Approx specs from website - I lost the cams specs a while ago lobe lift In .269 Ex .268 timing ad open/close In 41-70 Ex 75-36 duration @ 0.050 218 valve lift .395 lobe separation 109
  20. There was a kit years ago to twin charge (super and turbo) a 4age. HKS if I remember.
  21. Never had an issue like that. Used to drive sensibly when the coppers were about. When they were not looking........ When I was pulled over they couldn't pick the engine change, no pollution gear etc. They were more worried about the car alarm siren under the bonnet. I'm with you, loved driving away from or chasing some "performance" car through the twisties. Had a guy on the Great Ocean Rd in a turbo Commodore get really frustrated when he couldn't shake me off. Even more embarissing when I wasn't leaving my lane but he was using the whole road like a dick head.
  22. It depends on how the pearl is done. Sometimes it is mixed in with the with the paint to give a metallic type effect but it can also be included in the clear coat (I think) to give a more obvious effect. My first Rolla was done like this and it actually changed colour depending in the light source. It had a few different coloured pearls in it and it would change from redskin pink through red (its actual colour) to a russet (reddy brown) coulour under street lights. I have seen some pretty shitty candy paint jobs over the years. Any uneven coverage stands out like dogs bollocks.
  23. but it wont look as tuff  actually I don't think that 225/60/13's are available anymore - I'm going back 15 years or so now and all I could get were Bridgstone Eagers in that size.
  24. My first rolla was repaired and painted for the cost of paint only, but I was told that I would of been looking at over 3000 of 1990's dollars. This did include multi coloured pearls thaugh. So $4500 is not that bad for a full custom colour and candies are a prick to get right. Second rolla was painted for the cost of a slab in a custom coloured 2pak with gold pearl. Gotta love family.
  25. 225/60/13's will go under the back of a '35 with the lips rolled. Had clearance on the inside so could of gone wider with the right offset. Were mounted on 6" wide rims but don't know what the offset was.
