Word of warning though. Sherrifs were clamping cars in the car park last year if you had any outstanding fines etc.....
-
This Friday and Saturday at the Ballarat Airport. Looky Here
-
Or a gear reduction starter. Could get one of those out without pulling the extractors :)
-
Think I got away with it cause I spent a bit of time making it all neat, tidy and looking factory. Should of been pinged for being to low etc but seemed to get away with things.......
-
Or slot in the 5k as has been said before. Ran a KE35 with twin carbies and not one police officer picked that the engine had been changed, or commented on the twins, or that it had NO pollution gear at all, etc.....
-
Well the engine was in bad condition before the rebuild officer. The head was warped and needed to be shaved, the bore was scratched and needed to be taken out a bit. What it makes more power? Didnt realise that sir...... I'm sure with a bit of thought and creativity you can improve the performance a resonable amount without anyone knowing ;)

Yep keep your eyes open. Thats where I picked up my complete 3KB set up including linkages and aircleaner for $25 :)

learn to stop driving like a tool......

They are involved with Hill Climbs etc. They used to run a tarmac motorkhana but the old air strip if stuffed and finding enough tarmac betwen the pot holes was getting hard..... BLCC also run the Winter Classic Rally, which is mostly a navigation exercis but has closed road sections as well :)

Ke20 Drum To Drum Upgrade And Diff Issues
coln72 replied to trelf's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Need to do a search, it has been covered heaps. In a nut shell. pull old axels and brakes. Get hold of some KE55 axels and brakes, don't bother with KE30 as they arent much bigger if any. Need to get later model axels shortened a bit. Approx. 5mm off the spline from memory. Can turn them down in a lathe. fit into KE20 housing. Just be careful as there are two different types of diffs. Jap and Borg Warner and I don't think you can interchange axels..... You can also change the front bolt pattern to match very easily but you can look that up :) -
COME AND TRY DAY, 13th Ballarat Light Car Club is hosting a Community ‘Come and Try’ Training Day on its Autocross track Sunday Feb 13 starting at 9.30 This is a special opportunity for members of the public to have a drive or be a passenger on a hot lap of the club’s 1.6km granitic sand competition circuit. The club will also be running driver training classes for juniors and learners of all ages on the day. “We’re looking to have a big day on the track with something for everybody,” club President Noel Peers said today. “We have qualified driving instructors as well as some of the most experienced Autocross and rally drivers in the state in attendance, all here to share their skills.” There will be displays, practical demonstrations, and hands on opportunities for those that wish to have a try or learn some driving skills. The club is especially inviting learner drivers to come for some driving experience. “We have designed a special program for people young and old who want some training in driving a manual vehicle, and we have a program for supervising drivers and their learners who are looking for a few tips on getting their licence and becoming a good driver and safer road user,” Mr Peers said, “We will also will be offering training in skid control and use of the ABS braking system so common in newer cars.” Training will be offered at a nominal charge to cover CAMS driver insurance cost. Following the training sessions, the club will be conducting its first competitive Autocross for the year. This will start at 1.00 PM. Supplementary Regulations for the day are available below The clubrooms and Autocross track is located at Ballarat Airport, with action starting at 9.30 am Sunday 13th For information contact Ian Brain on 0418 518988

Sorry, my question is why bother when the standard valve springs in a 5k will handle 8000rpm anyway.......
-
Go the 5k, the torque is so lovely :) It would have to be a really good 3k to keep up with a 5k. As an example, my father and I both had KE20 club cars. Mine was powered by a 5k with a cam, twin carbs and a few other little things. The old mans was running a 4k with a ported head, higher compression, a BIG cam (it had nothing until 4000rpm!!!) and a modified single carb. Both were running extractors and 2" systems. We lined them up on an old airstrip one day while doing a motorkhana and mine walked away from the old mans. By the end of the eigth mile it would have been a car length or more in it. That 5k cost me $100 to buy and probably another couple of hundred to modify :)

Trialled HZ Kingswood V8 in my KE20 at one stage. Nearly cut in half to get the ride height back down :) They were waaayyyyy to stiff for my application though, front wheels would bounce off the ground....... As far as shocks go, you can refill the front struts with thicker oil to stiffen them up.

never used the choke with my 5k fitted with 3k-b carbies so I guess twin webbers would be similar

mmmmm, I'll second the above. If driven properly (not abused) stock stuff will last a long time. Run your k series box and see if it does break. I wasnt making huge power out of my 5k's but they were healthier than stock and even with motorsport use, stock stuff used to last. In 15 years or so, I only ever broke on box and that was due to stupidity - slotting first gear while doing 50km/h. Even this left the box still drivable. Welded diffs used to last me a couple of years, think I replaced 4 or so over the years. Another example of supposedly week gearboxes is my uncles FX Holden. The Opel gearbox that was fitted, not known for its strength, outlasted two well modified 202's. A gearbox article in Steet Machine years ago summed it up perfectly. Quote "If you keep breaking gearboxes, do yourself a favour and by an auto....."

don't know about other centres, but in Ballarat you only need 6 to get a group booking. To get a final and a trophy, you need at least 8 though.
-
Yeah, I've been told that they have never seen a hire kart with so much angle on them at times. But if it is an understeering dog, you gotta throw it at the corners don't ya :)
-
Weight isnt really an issue if you can use it to you advantage......... ;)
-
See if you can book the centre just for the club. I know that if you get enough people together, Ballarat Indoor Karts will hire it exclusivly and offer a trophy for the winner. Other centres may be the same. Port Melbourne did it years ago when Toyota and Mazda car clubs competed against each other.

From memory, 5k's only had single row timing chains. That said, I never had an issue with it over the years I ran 5k's.

Yeah the question with the solid conversion is how high are you going to rev it. Be honest with yourself. If you think you are going to be using 100000 rpm every shift then, good luck to you and go for the solid conversion. In my experience with two 5k's over the years (but a while ago now). First 5k was a torque monster. It had a standard cam, but a ported matched head to a 3kb manifold and carbs. The head was also machined a bit to pump up the compression as far as I could go on pump fuel (leaded in those days :) ). Also had electronic dizzy and some other stuff as well but thats the basics. The difference over the stock 5k was amazing. Hills that would take 4th to accelerate up could be done in 5th gear with ease. The Seond was in my old KE20 club car. It had a standard head, a cobbled together 3kb carby set up, a Wade 169(?) reground cam and alot of little things done to it that I am a little fuzzy on now. This motor could and would wind of the tacho, which was 8000rpm. Shift light was set at 7500rpm to help me remember to change ;) but during a motorkhana it would be on constantly. Both these 5k's had hydrolic lifters that came with the motors and I had no issues with them. I hated keeping the solids in adjustment when I ran 3k's as they always seemed to loosen up with big revs...... Now I wished I got around to combining the big compression with the reground cam :( There is a youtube vid of my old '20 in action if you want to hear it in action.
