  1. Just about ready to put some paint on the car again. All the gearbox x member mounts are done and primered. All holes have been welded up and sealed too. Found some damage from the last event, bent panhard rod. Not sure how that happened??
  2. Cleaner weld with gas, alot less splatter, so less clean up too. But i don't mind gasless, it has it's use's. Good for welding outside or any place that is windy.
  3. It's a little Brumby CIG mig with .6 wiring, but it's NOT gasless. I would have tigged it but it's just easier with the MIG under the car.
  4. Thanks Ian. Relocation of cross member mounts are almost done. Should get around to sealing and primering it tomorrow. Thank god, hard work grinding and welding upside down on your back!!
  5. Sorry Keith, i don't think she'll be ready for that. Gear shift is almost finished, just some final machining to the rear housing and shifter base and it's all good. Waiting for the gearbox mount to come from Toyota and i can finish the x member too. Now we need to change the gear knob to the correct 6 speed one. Gearbox can now come apart, ready for the close ratio kit to turn up.
  6. Good to see it finally on the road. Now you'll be able come see us more often. Oh, i sure you can find more useless things to put on your list for the car.
  7. The pass couple of days have been spent working on getting the gear shifter sorted for the 6 speed. Putting the gearbox back together proved to be entertaining to say the least. Very compilcated selector setup, but very nicely made. Happy to say it's getting close to been finished, just need to trial fit it to the car to set the position. We've also been working on the shocks and adding some extra bracing to the sill stands, it appears the sill isn't double skinned near the back wheels.Anyhow, they should be all finished tomorrow then all i need to do is paint the sills and look at making some kevlar sill protection. We had one shock together, all gassed up, but the seal failed and pissed oil and gas everywhere. turns out the seal that was supplied was the wrong one, have left the old seal with the supplier to see if they can find the right one.
  8. Fantastic effort mate, really shows what goes on behind the senes. Love how you've showed what your done and why. One thing i learnt all the years rallying, is there is always something to do on them. Look forward to catching up at one of the events next year.
  9. well i didn't want to say anything.. But the idea was, if he ever wanted any more grunt, we could quite easierly fit a Beams engine into the car. But that could be a long way off.
  10. Well have slowly started on the six speed conversion, had to buy some bolts for the bellhousing to gearbox because the helicoils they use on the conversion are 1.5 pitch. Gave the bell housing a much needed bath. We're going to dummy fit the G/B to the car so we can make the gear shift and x member. The old box will be out of the car by the weekend. Close ratio gear kit has been ordered and should be here in the early new year.
  11. yes it is, piss off the old bosch alternator and fit a denso one that charges at 14.4 volts.
  12. we use a sv21 camry rad, it's cheap new, the bottom hose is on the right side, but the top is closer to the left side. This is in a KE70, so could be a little big for a 20.
  13. I have no idea what the weight of the cage would be, pretty lite compared to what's out there. It's a MANZ approved rollcage, not a CAMS approved cage, so it has a 38mm main hoop and not 44mm main hoop. I'm guessing this would make a bit of a difference in weight. Michael, the car still hasn't got lexan windows, and then there's the innner door frames and winder mech's that can come out after the windows go in, at a guess, about 20kg's.
  14. Tony and I really appreciate all the hard work you, Teddy and Craig put into the car servicing to get these results.
  15. http://www.topgear.c...-gt86-2012-12-7 Thought this might happen. Such a great little car.
  16. After our first rally season with the new Corolla, we have managed to take out Sportsman A and Club Rally Car title. :rocknroll: It all came down to the last round that was ran a couple of weeks ago. All sportsman crews had to complete 15 stages, which we did, but our competiton didn't. Well done to Tony and Deddie, and a big thank you to Craig,Teddy and Justin for all your help servicing. :hail: Really looking forward to the 2013 season, with the new 6 speed, weight reduction, rebuilt shocks and a few more tweaks, the 2WD rally master series should be fun.
  17. Check the point gap, they may have closed up. I'm assuming it's got points?
  18. Nice work Matt, just gets better and better..
  19. I think most guys who have read the build know what our rally car weighs(ke70), but for who that haven't. It's just under 780kg's wet.
  20. The 7k starter is what they call a 1 kilowatt starter, it's quite a bit different and more powerful than a 2k starter. Most 5k liteace vans and late 7k townace vans had that style of starter. If you have an electronis 5k dizzy, it'll fit and work very well.
  21. She's a neat bit of kit, he came up on the weekend and helped service, as did Teddy and Justin. He knows his stuff when it comes to wheel alignments, after all, we drive all the way from brisbane just to get him to do it. He's also getting a set of motorsport scales very shortly, we could be up there alot more.. Tony and Debbie also got a trophy for Most spectacular,
  22. Oh goodie, 6 speed conversion stuff has just turned up.
  23. We have finished the last rally for the season. Gallangowan make the cut was a completely different format from your usual rally. 5 stages ran 3 times, if you were part of the sportsmans series you had to complete all 15 stages. We were part of the series. Then your 5 fastest stage times were added together, from here. The 10 fastest 2wd's and 10 fastest 4wd's then went to make the cut stage. Then this became the top 20, which then ran one stage approx 5km's, this would reduce the field down from 20 to 15 cars. 15 cars then ran again to get down to 10 cars and then again to get down to the top 5 cars, this didn't quite workout as the top 6 cars, tied, car 5 & 6, 4 & 3 and cars 2 &1 tied, so it ended up the top 6. To make a very long story short, the Corlla was car 6, so we got to run as if we were in the top 5. The little corolla was the only 2wd car in a sea Mitzy Evo's. We finished the event being 6th outright for the event and first 2wd car. Excellent result and totally unexpected. A BIG THANKS to Teddy and Justin for coming up and servicing, couldn't have done it without you guys. Now with the season over we're going to concentrate on getting the 6 speed box into the car, rebuilding all the TRD rally shocks and getting done the very long list of minor repairs that have to be done before next years season A KE70 in a sea of Evo's..
  24. here's a bit of video from a month ago.
  25. New parts arrived today, including new Denso plugs, and a brand new 3ac dizzy. Just wanted the pick up out of it but it may end up on the engine.
