  1. shit that looks good :P
  2. reading everthing you're got there, i think the cam is way to big for a street engine. i know they can sound good when idling but they produce f@$k all torque and power. i your case, i think the cam is starting to come on just as your webber runs out of flow, this would be why your making only 56kw's. just a little info for you, no one makes chrome moly rings, you can get chrome rings and you can get moly rings, but you can't get chrome moly rings. the moly rings are cast with a moly insert. as for it glazing up the bores, there's a million reasons, from the wrong oil when running it in, to the way you drive it. but at the end of the day you'll have to strip the engine and deglaze the bores to fix the problem. some where in the posts there is a link to a site about running your engine in, read it, it's really quite true. i think if you put a single side draught on with a smaller cam you'd make better power and torque. but this is my opinion only.but it does come from f@$king around with these engines since 1988, in both Competition and road engines. good luck and i hope you get it sorted.
  3. i thought i'd start this because there are some differences in 5k & 4k blocks. the 5k has 2, the weak one has a welsh plug under the water pump and welsh plugs down the camshaft side of the block. only ever seen one. 4k's, there were 500 made that had no strenghtening around the welsh plugs on the maniflod side. i've struck 2 of these blocks in 15 years and both cracked through the plugs, one was in our rally car in NZ and the other was when i worked for an engine reconditioner here in brisbane, i told them about the problem, but they went ahead and reco'ed the engine, 2 weeks later back it came, you guessed it, cracked though the welsh plugs. anyone else???
  4. i'm not a holden or ford fan but i own a xb coupe and a BLACK BLOWN 57 2 DOOR. f@$ken horn car.
  5. why?? if there to big you're going to be in trouble with side draughts. personally i'd be putting twin 40mm side draughts on with 32mm venturis, i used to run these on 4k's, so on a 5k it should be prefect. one choke per cylinder you can't go wrong. Sorry - I meant the dyno shop said that they are too big in the venturi's. The sentence was meant read "As i found OUT that a 32/36 DGV was too big in the venturi's". I think i'll be going somewhere else to get the side drafts tuned. The car went in with 56rwkw (full rich weber and glazed rings) - Then once they were finished tuning it, it had 48rwkw (Hrmmm, Somethings not right). What was your mileage like with the twins on the 4K? The final thing with twins - Is it hard to get them to meet pollution regulations etc? I would assume not. If they are tuned professionally that is. So what your saying is that one side draft carb will have 2 venturi's - both of the venturi's are 32mm each - So 4x32mm venturi's as a complete set if i ran twins. It's just that i've never dealt with side drafts (only down draft - which have had different sized venturi's from primary to secondary). Is the standard mechanical fuel pump suitable to run the twins? reading everything that you have done to the engine, i think that the carb is thing that is letting the engine down, you've got 2" sports system, a head job( :P ) big valves, and a decent cam. WHATS THE THING THAT IS MISSING?? good carburetion!!!!! if you drive the car the same way as before the fuel economy shouldn't change if it's tuned right, you could even find that it'll get better. your engine will breathe better, it'll deliver power smoother and should rev harder. and use an other dyno shop because these guys must be idots if they think the venturis are too big. what's your cam spec's, 0480" lift seams way to much, that works out to be 320 at the lobe, maybe try a smaller cam, is it a race car or road car?
  6. Round 2 of the KCF short course rally sprint is on the 14th of next month. (about 3 weeks) we'll be there(hopefully) who's going to come and get dirty? ROB??? MEL???(rexgirl)
  7. this is a book i found many years ago and i consider it still to be one of the best books on PRACTICAL gas flow. covers thinks like making your own flow bench, making moulds, porting heads, working out static and true compression ratios. i think i brought it from drysdale books in the city.
  8. thanks i now own a copy :P
  9. it'll put an erection on a jellyfish. :P
  10. has anyone ever see the movie "running on empty"? had a red GTHO,a black dodge, and black blown 57 2 door chevy in it. i'd love a copy, never been able to find one.
  11. i have MM 1 and MM 2 on dvd, if you want a copy let me know. awesome movies. and that car is still in AUS somewhere.
  12. trust my brother to find something like this!!!!!!!!!
  13. why?? if there to big you're going to be in trouble with side draughts. personally i'd be putting twin 40mm side draughts on with 32mm venturis, i used to run these on 4k's, so on a 5k it should be prefect. one choke per cylinder you can't go wrong.
  14. we use Dellorto's on the rally car because they Atomize the fuel better and deliever better torque down low, say that the webber is a good carb, it produces better top end power. we use ly over manifolds before we stood the engine upright and found that with a little work they flowed quite well. the webbers and dellorto's do have the same bolt pattern. hope that helps
  15. yip i've done one. it went out to 5k(80.5) the guy who bored it thought i was nuts, i only wanted to see if there was enough meat in the bore to do it. big surprise, the block i used was a 81 4k from a ke70 auto, there was heaps of meat left in the block, i ran the engine in a ke30 auto, just standard. the only thing i found was a small temp increase on the gauge. not recommended for making big HP!!!!!
  16. was your gun loaded??? what a steal. :P well done. tony wants to know if he can borrow your gearbox for the next rally, and does it come with a gear stick??? :y:
  17. we do those parts at work, i'll try and photo copy the pages. all crash parts are on the street behind alljap if anyones looking for them. they don't sell to public but if you go there on a saturday morning with cash he will sell. i used to work for him about 6 years ago. the bosses name is steve. the panels aren't the best fit but they are new.
  18. found this while surfing. thickness guide
  19. the W50, W55, W56,W57,W58 gearbox, what do they come out in??? and do that use a T50 bell housing??? anyone know
  20. the T50 is also known as a slit case box, the box should be all alloy and the case is bolted together through the top and bottom, (it doesn't have a normal steel pan on it). hope this helps
  21. here's that diagram, hope it's what you wanted. wiring
  22. it's a corolla!!!!!!! thanks guys for all the support and offers. we've found i alot of problems after looking over the car so they'll be fixed before KCF 2, so it should be on fire for that event. at least the engine is fine. :doublebird:
  23. i have a Ke70 wiring diagram for jap,NZ,canadian, and US. i'll try and scan the wiring diagram off soon.
  24. well our rally didn't quite go to plan, 1st stage, big spin, 2nd stage, hit a bank and got a flat tyre from it, 3rd stage, over shoot 2 intersections, 7th stage, nosed into bank, almost rolled, broke 1 hella 2000 driving light, drove the rest of the stage with no driving lights because backing off the bank the lights got unplugged, from then on we battled a bad handling car and to top things off tony broke the gear shift on the last stage and finished the rally with only third gear. finished 10th outright and 2nd in class(1600cc). next event is the second round of KCF at jimna about 3 weeks. shit we've got some work ahead of us before then. it was good to see Teddy up there. flat tyre
  25. you're welcome, as i find stuff like that i'll try and post it, just brought a set of side draughts off ebay for $305 to suit a 4K with manifold, we only wanted the carbs so the manifold will be up for sell. as for the head gasket, if we were allowed to use avgas in the rally car, i would have brought one. but we're not F**KEN CAMS.
