  1. The frame looks heavy!!! Looking good Craig.
  2. Suzuki 1400 pistons? Tell me more.
  3. Got a few little jobs out of the way today. Changed the igniter and re-wired the connection to the dizzy, now using a shielded cable, hopefully this will sort out the hi rpm miss. Removed the speedo cable, as it's no longer required. The speedo runs off a sensor on the drive shaft and the Monit runs off the VSS(speed sensor), more weight out of the car. ;) Finished pulling apart the LCA's, just to check them, clean and regrease them. Now to remove the trailing arms to do the same. Tony has finished the rebuild on the front TRD shocks and has now started on the rears.
  4. To reduce the BAD effects of a big cam and gain some more hp/torque in the bottom end, research exhaust reversion! Or to put it another way, bring the cam on earlier!!
  5. OH god, kill me now. Anyone who has worked on a BMW knows what i'm talking about. :sob: :loo: :yak:
  6. Yip this has been done. Not real clear on how, The head to use is a 2tg, different intake ports to a 3tgte, apparently better for N/A engines. Have read of this, some good info. http://www.classic-celica.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=93
  7. Here's Craig's Celica build for anyone whos interested. http://www.ndscc.asn.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1903
  8. Oh god, i've created a monster. :jamie: Should be a good season with the Corolla and the Celica competing. Keith, Bago is the firsy event that we'll be at, hopefully we can catch up.
  9. Another slow day, Now working on the TRD rear shocks, interesting setup, drained the oil, pulled them apart, new seals and shaft and they'll go back together tomorrow, only problem is getting oil, we'll have to wait until next week. Mounted the Monit today, hopefully the co-driver will be happy with where it is. Nice bit of kit!!!
  10. We did do some testing years ago in NZ with oil temps, and found in a rally the oil temp was getting to around 130-140c. Now with rallying in QLD, with the extra temp up here, we think the oil cooler is a must. Also, depends what oil's you run as well, a full synthic has a lot higher range than a minerial oil.
  11. Torque FTW!!
  12. Craig, because the corolla is a General body it's only got 2 x member bolt holes, where the old one had 3 been a japan corolla. Yes it was painful. Still waiting on the gearset, should be here in 2-3 weeks hopefully. Matt, those are still fiberglass bumpers, tony just gave them a clean up and painted them, they do look good. Andy, anytime mate, we're moving the oil cooler somewhere else now!! :moon:
  13. We've almost finished rebuilding our TRD shocks. Pulled the last front one apart tonight and this was the oil that came out of it. Had a great score in the weekend, thanks to Andy for the JDM bellhousing, cost a big FAT ZERO, just a little welding. Assembled one of the rebuilt shocks with it's new 300mm springs, now has 50mm more travel.
  14. If you get stuck with the vacumn system, i have a US starlet workshop manual, has everything in it and i use to own a KP60.
  15. If you could get the hole centered, then drill it larger, tap and locktite in a bolt twice as large, then drill the bolt to the orginal size. Like a time sert, but on a larger scale.
  16. Sills repainted, back bumper with new fiberglass stone tray all fitted up. Now onto rebuilding the TRD shocks.
  17. A rally car is never finished. ;)
  18. yeah sure, no problem. Mig or Tig?
  19. The old Brantz (rally trip computer) has done a great job since 1988, but it was time replace it with sometime better. Lighter and easy to use. Weighs in at 26grams!!
  20. Finally got to meet Matt (LittleRedSpirit) in the weekend, great putting a face to the name and listening and seeing what's been done to his Corolla. He does a very nice job of everything, good to see someone doing a good job of everything. Have finally finished the gearbox cross member. Front bumper is back together with new lenses and back on the car. Rear one has been painted, bar ends repainted and bolted back onto the bumper, just waiting for the paint to dry on the rear panel and the bumber can get refitted. Found a little video as well from Broder Rangers Rally too.
  21. Decided to clean up and repaint the bumpers, they were full of stone chips. Half way through making the gearbox X member, biggest problem will be attaching the sump guard to it.
  22. The work continues. Doing some body repairs at the moment. Sills had some damage. and the back panel had been smashed off, lucky it's fiberglass and we have a mould. New one all made and trial fitted to the car. Inside floor tunnel all painted after the mounts been relocated.same with the under side. Tony's has finished the modifications to the gearbox, now just waiting on the close ratio kit turning up. Should be here by the end of the month.
  23. Matt and Dave Even a mig with gas and .6 wire, panel steel is still hard to weld. A Tig would be the best for panel steel, which we have as well, but we don't use it for panel steel. too hard to drag around. I'm getting lazy in the old age. Gasless are good for welding out doors, and you don't have the cost of a gas bottle either. They weld panel steel ok, but it's never going to be as good as a gas mig, maybe a little more clean up with a grinder as well. Keith I was surprised to see it bent, Tony didn't think he had hit anything hard. |blink| That was a jap panhard rod as well, they taper down at that end.
  24. Foam and bubble wrap every P platers car. I think it's about as good as the Mayors idea. :ban:
  25. missed one matt. Late flat front, bigger head lights, smaller grill, with either chrome or plastic bumpers, late tail lights. Almost like a T18 but it's a ke70. I've seen 2 in Brisbane, but that was years ago, imported privately. Only place i know to get parts would be NZ.
