i'd have to check, but i think the LSD you are after is out of a ke70. All the TE series here came out with a 6.7" diff. the 6" diff came out in the Jap spec KE70, if it's what you want we may have one sitting in the garage for sale. it's a TRD unit, but the LSD is f@$ken tight!!! it was in a rally car, it's got 5.1 TRD gears, had new bears just recently, but we upgraded to a AE86 sprinter rear end. if you could give me a chassis(vin) number that would help as we have a toyota EPC to cross reference too.

(has hand up) i know the one. you're right teddy it is a van and it's a spaica, yes a townace, same as the 7k powered ones. they also came out with a 3sfe in them. i think the coding is SR50G i think i have a engine at work from one. but they are RWD with a W series box.

NZ went through this about 4 years ago with ethanol and found that too much and plastic fuel lines get eaten out and they ended up with heaps of cars busting into flames for no reason. they discovered that anymore than 10% ethanol will chew plastic fuel components to bits. saying all that we ran the rally car on it, the other weekend and it was good. gave it heaps more ignition and the engine loved it. :P and you can taste it, found out decanting fuel. :) also ran it in the van just to see how good it was, and i did notice a difference. but f@$k using it for a daily driver. :( end result: good for motorsport or highly strung engine but wouldn't bother for daily driver. And Nick your right about Japan having decent fuel, there prem unleaded smells like avgas. Bring back AVGAS. :(

we used a KE70 1:because of the 5 bar link rear end, a leaf sprung rear just can't put the power on the road like a 5 bar. 2:there's shit loads of them out there 3:same floor pan as AE86, so parts change over is easy. 4: wheel base is almost ideal for a rally car. 5: TRD make heaps of parts for these models and AE86's. 6: parts are easy to come by and cheap. like the photo's above, that happened about 4 years ago. it was repaired in 12 days at a cost of $200. 3 bars were replaced in the cage, R/F guard, boot, L/R full quarter, but it's still got it's orginal roof.

i was thinking that with a moly ring you have to have a very fine hone on the bore and this can cause problems with the ring not bedding in, so you end up with the bore glazed up. in your engine i'd use just a cast ring with a good hone, around 400 grit. when i hone the bore i use carby cleaner to get as much oil off the cylinder walls as possible, also makes the honing stone bite in better. i also don't oil the rings when fitting them. Hastings rings are good, i've used Pro Tec and there good too. Grants are another brand, but i've had mixed results with them. i doesn't matter what pistons you have in your engine.there's no set rule for what rings you use with what pistons. the biggest things for me are, the hone on the bore, the oil used when running in and how the engine is run in. here's a link from an old post, have a read, it'll give you an idea of what you're needing to do. running in

Thanks mel!!! :D Tony and I didn't start out doing Motorkhana's, we went striaght into rallying, but have done a couple. with great success. might look at doing this next year.
-
why did he use moly rings??? this could explan why it's using oil. i use cast rings only, found that chrome ones chew the hell out of the bore, they don't crack but if you ever strip the engine back down you'll find that you'll have to rebore it. with cast rings, you have to make sure that you hone the bore correctly. and don't use Castrol oil when you run it in, as it's friction modified and this will glaze the bore back up and you'll start using oil again. basicly cast wear the ring, chrome wear the bore.

we had a ke70 rally car with a 4k and it flew. it did have a TRD uprite in it but they still go with a nicely worked 4k lie over in them. Trendact, never mind what other people think, i know how hard you can get a 4k to go. it's a good plan as starting in a low powered car teachers you how to drive fast and not rely on HP. most people who coment on how slow a 4k is, know nothing anyhow. these are a strong little engine with some good mod's can produce some excellent figures. our old car (1300cc) produced 137 ATW in a 790kg car.
-
you're such a sweet talker Mel. but disagree, the photo doesn't look like he can drive too well, he drove it down a bank and into a tree( sorry 2 trees ) :D had harder enough time trying to keep this one from breaking, i couldn't see Tony finishing a rally in anything else but a corolla, or at least a Toyota.
-
yip it would, P1 is 0-1400cc and P2 is 1401cc-1600. it's a good class to start in as you learn to drive the car fast with no HP.
-
i think he's missed a couple. there's something like 34 trophies so far this year. not bad for a KE70 with a K engine.

i know where the money is going, so you better put me down for one. PM bank details and i'll send the cash.
-
thanks jamie, this will be interesting when i ring him and find out what the bullshit excuse is this time.
-
Well i don't know about any body else, but i'm still waiting for the All Toyota day trophies that i paid for. has anyone got this guys address, i'm going to pay him a visit.

More crazy people on rollaclub. and for everyone wondering what Mel was talking about with xmas themed rally car, Peta decided to add a little xmas theme by putting decorations around the rollcage. But the best bit was the Flashing Xmas lights wrapped around the cage as well. These looked awesome in the night stages. Pic's to follow, PETA!!!!

Tony and Peta have managed an outstanding result in the final round of the Queensland rally championship. They finished 5th outright, 1st P2,3rd classic,3rd 2WD,clubman outright,3rd QRC outright and 1st P2 clubman. With this result they have taken P2(1600cc) for the Queensland rally championship. Peta also took outright clubman co-driver and we have to check where Tony got. This was a fitting end to the Corolla's last championship season. we want to take the time to thank everyone for there support and help thoughout the season. a big thank you to Rollaclub's own Teddy for all the help in the last 2 events. Prize giving is in a couple of weeks, we'll confirm all the results then.

try an SR20, turbo or non turbo. they do fit, just. there all alloy and 2.0 litre standard. will improve handling as the weight splits between front and rear become closer to 50/50. you can also use the silva front end with only a few mods,( bigger brakes )
-
first weekend in Dec is out for us, you should know that Teddy!!! but the rest should be ok, thats if the car is still in one piece. :D hopefully we'll have 2 twin headlight corollas turn up?????
-
there is a couple of ways you do it, but the easiest is to cut holes in the floor where the legs are going to sit, so you can drop the main hoop and front legs down far enough to weld it, it's a good idea to tac weld all the roof bars in placebefore you drop it down to weld it, so you're welding them all at once. then once you've done that it's a matter of lifting the cage back up and putting the foot plates under the legs to stop the cage dropping down. when you've finished all the welding on the rest of the cage, just weld the peices that you cut out back into there holes, this is the hardest part unless you can turn the car over.

yip just change the rear housing and it will be ok to use.
-
you need to change the tail housing as the ke55 rear housing is different to the ke70, different mount and gearshift position.
-
we found what is wrong with the T50 box and it wasn't that bad. the bolt that holds the front layshaft bearing in had come undone and was siezing up the layshaft. good news for us, just change the bolt and in it goes. but we are now looking for some parts for a K50 gearbox, if anyone has one in bits please PM me. thanks. and this is what happened to the K50 box. this is the first time this has happened to us. R.I.P

i've just discovered we have managed to get 3rd outright for the series as well. even with the yesterdays result. not sure what our outright finish was but 2nd in class is a bit of a surprise. Rob and Wayne done a fantastic job, and to hear Mel(99) got 4th outright is fantsatic also. Hat goes off to Teddy who done an outstanding job on the car, being the first time working on it. if he hadn't been there i think it would have taken longer. it was a good effort by all Rollaclub members who were there.

boilermaker's are good, but what a dirty job. i know i use to do it NZ. i just thought that it would be easier to bolt it on, that way there's no heat to damage the balancer and you could adjust it, i reckon 3x8M bolts would do the job.
