  1. I think we have all the parts we need thanks Teddy, unless you can find some TRD rally shocks!! But from my understanding they have stop making them. Trev, I'd love if it was finished by the end of the year, but the way things are going i may be pushing it a bit!!
  2. Yeah Dave that would be Tony!! The steering wheel came from Rallynuts in the UK, not sure what it was worth!! Well this weekend saw the engine finally been put together. Had to be careful with the nice shiny Hi-comp pistons, but generally it went together quite well considering the amount of times i had to pull it apart to check clearances. :P The head is still been ported, but isn't too far away from been finished. Wisco Forged Hi-comp pistons, Mmmm nice!! tightening the Main Studs Got to love a nicely machined block Windage tray in place getting ready for the sump
  3. Rob, yip i can take your fuel, just make sure it's labeled, as for picking my brains, no problems, after a few beers you can't shut me up!!! Dave, I'll be in touch in the next week about hirstglen, And thanks for coming over and having a play with the car, it was good to meet you. As for a master piece, not sure about that, but it's coming a long nicely.
  4. I have struck this problem before many times. If it's what i think it is, there are a couple of things you can try. It comes from the synchro cone polishing the synchro hub, then the cone can't grab the hub to mesh the gears. I've been told it's to do with the quality of the gear oil that causes this. You could try changing the oil, but i have found this to only last a week or 2 before the problem returns. The only other way is to strip the gearbox and sand blast the synchro hub surface, this puts a rough surface on the hub so the cone can grab it better. And while you have it apart change the cones. If you have ever heard of using valve grinding paste on the cones and the hubs, it's the same principle!!
  5. Found this ages ago, could be worth a look. A-W bellhousing
  6. And the porting of the head continues, Tony is loving every minute of it. :P I think so far he has spent 20 hours and is only half way through. Have almost finished the sump and the baffling, Just need to clean it up, oil pump pick up is also finished and that needs to be cleaned as well. Hopefully the pistons will be back this week so I can start stitching the engine together. New steering wheel should also be here this week. The sump with baffle plate. exhaust port almost finished. Chamber shape is looking good. Note: the manifold needed to be pinned. Inlet ports starting to take shape.
  7. Worn Tyres will cause this, try putting the rear tyres to the front and see if that fixes it
  8. We worked it out to be about 40ltrs, really don't need that much. Always found that the engine didn't use that much extra, I believe a well tuned engine shouldn't use too much more fuel as it's more efficient. Hope the 4AGE doesn't use too much either!!
  9. Tony is currently porting the new head and I'm still trying to finish the sump!! Cardboard fuel tank went to Mr sheetmetal today to get fabricated, so hopefully we'll have a nice new alloy fuel tank in a week or two. But i now have to cut into the shell again to relocate the pump. New steering wheel has been ordered, should be here in a week. Things seam to be moving slowly, but at least it's getting done.
  10. If it's a DX in NZ it's on the Build plate. Have a look at the pic!! under trans axle, first letter and number is the gearbox the next letter is the diff code. All assuming this is a DX and not an Aussie car.
  11. The DX chrome bumper indicators are different to the Aussie ones. The only lenses that fit the DX bumper are Hilux. Hope that helps
  12. you'll need to do something with the dizzy as well, the computer controls the timing.
  13. mmm, interesting to see what many people think and what works for them. Our old rally engine in NZ had the mechanical fuel pump from a 3k twin carb engine with no fuel pressure reg. yes it had the dellortos, both of them, and yeah it ran great, fuel pressure was at 3 psi. only ever had one problem when one of the valves shit it's self. These pumps you can rebuild so we were lucky.
  14. Hey mate, yeah i do know of a team looking for service crew. Where are you based? Talk to me via PM!! Unfortunately the Polo blew a head gasket at the end of stage 2 on Saturday and had to retire. Very disappointing considering all the effort that went into it for this event, but just can't for-see some problems.
  15. The other thing, did you re-torqued the head after you had warmed it up or driven it?? This is a real common problem, people replace the head gasket, torque the head down and then just drive it. You need to heat the engine up and let it sit overnight, then re-torque the head when the engine is stone cold, you'll usually get another 10-20 lb out of the bolts. This is caused by the gasket crashing down, if you hadn't done this your bolts would be 10-20lb looser than what they should be, there for not applying the correct amount of force on to the gasket.
  16. Hey Jimi, Yip she'll be up there on the Friday night. Yeah it should go well on this event, had dramas at the WRC, which was it's last event. Has a new clutch, rebuild diff, repainted engine bay, and lots more has been done. Marius, the owner has done a fantastic job of preparing it. If you'd seen it last Friday, it was a shell, it's now already to go!! If your out by the service park on Saturday or Sunday, come over and say hi, I'll be there servicing!! :jamie:
  17. No thanks Jimi, i think i have enough rally cars i'm playing with at the moment. :jamie: Working on a S2000 VW polo, trying to get it ready for rally QLD this weekend, and the rest of my spare time is spent on the Corolla. The Polo
  18. Yeah Jimi, didn't expect to have to mod the sump, but shit happens. At least we know we'll have enough capacity, and it'll be baffled right. fuel tank will be about 35-40 ltr's, made out of alloy, it shouldn't be to big, ha, i did look at making one out of carbon fiber, but wasn't sure how the resin would hold up and how to actually construct it in one piece. the dash is just nice and simple, very lite too!!
  19. Thanks mate, yeah a lot of the mods are because it's a rally car and it'll see abuse that other cars won't. Well the sump mods continue, wings have been added and i'm half way through welding it up. Tony has started on porting the head, after finishing the valves and guides today. Car maybe put on to the trailer this week or next to be taken up to get the fuel tank made.
  20. Thanks Jimi!! Dash is all screwed in with Brantz (Terra trip)bolted in, and map light screwed on. Valve and guide work has been started. I now have to modify the sump, thought we might get away with it, but when it's fitted to the engine it doesn't have enough clearance between the sump and sump guard. Needs about 15-20mm, so it'll be reduce the height of the sump and add wings to get the volume back. I HATE DOING SUMPS!!! Sorry about the quality of the photos, iphones have shit cameras!!
  21. True, we use to do this in NZ and i know of one place in Brisbane who use to do it too. Dunlop actually made a tool for doing exactly that, it clamped on to your strut and bolted onto the hub, then you just wound a bolt to tweak the strut. It's a loss art, F**k all people know how to do it, and fewer will do it!!
  22. New map light has finally turned up, that'll be fitted to the car in the weekend. Also should have the sump baffling done as well, just waiting for the pistons to come back from the machine shop, then the bottom end can go together Still working on the Dizzy adpater, should be finished in the weekend as well. Have screwed half the dash in, and we're lightening things as we go.
