10 Day Respray Ke55 4-Door 24-12-10 To 3-1-11
beerhead replied to shaded_shadows_KE55's topic in Rollaclub Rides
Looks great! Will turn many a head. -
Never heard of a RWD E motor, so this is definitely a unique swap. Out of interest, how light are these motors? Must be close to a 4K, so it should be a handler hey, nice choice for a windy road eater. Dizzy mod looks like it may need a bit more love though, does it have a tensioner for the belt? I'd use the factory spin adjuster bolt slot for timing with a custom bracket mounted to the top of the block to work as a tensioner for that extra belt. Will need a pivot point down the bottom to make it work I guess. BTW, I'm going to try a factory FWD 3VZFE bung to block my dizzy hole, looks really close to yours too, may be worth a look. Can't wait for the finished product! Later

All 4A blocks have the same basic mounting provisions. You can cut and shut or get a factory JDM bigport intake from an AE86. AE71 or AE86 have all the mechanical bits you need, mounts, rwd gearbox etc etc, clutch spline matches too, just bolts up, as does the 4ac rwd starter. You can rearrange the mounts on the xmember to suit the 4A factory rwd mounts or make or possibly buy custom mounts techo toy tuning; starlet 4A onto K crossmember may be worth a look, just need to use www.toyodiy.com to make sure the mounts on your car and the starlet are a match, both K powered and similar width, I'd do some research. The TRDKE70 boys would know if the mounts are the same heaps more RWD starlets in NZ

Nice find.

Matt's 20V ate one for lunch, they don't make much extra power than a 4AGE, just more bottom end torque. They need aftermarket rods if you plan to rev them hard, so it isn't a cheap or common option.
-
Have a search for "bitten of more than I can chew" - something like that A dude in tassy who was restoring an TE70 2 door. He had a play with this idea, but from memory I think the A motor bolts onto the crossmember with the T rubber mounts, but the gearbox xmember doesn't line up and will need mods afterward.

My 2 1/4 didn't sound like crap with an 88/42 spec cam, one of the toughest notes I've ever heard from a 4 cylinder, but I think it would have picked up piles of bottom end torque with a 2". 1 3/4 will flow heaps on a stock motor, but 2" is probably the ticket if your thinking cam/extractors in the future.

Caltracs are normally used for drag's, but when setup wrong they'll make a car really tail happy. Watts link or a panhard rod will defintley make the car more precise and get rid of that boat steer. Leafs won't ever cut the mustard as well as a good 4 link setup though, but with some work they handle alright. A mate who's into the older holdens on the track was telling me about polymer single piece leaf springs which are meant to be the ducks nuts of leaf springs, $1000 a pair from the states though...

Rebuilt Motor And Wont Start... Why!!!???
beerhead replied to samv6912's topic in General Mechanical
Does it crank over really quick? Could be the cam timing, a compression tester will tell you if its definitely out of whack. -
Medicine man should have a photo of a pair side by side. As the K motor is slant and the A motor is upright the passenger side mount is higher and skewed to suit the lean of the motor. You could make custom mounts or get KP61 Techo toy tuning mounts to make it work though.
-
Save up another $50 and you can come out and use my spray gun and compressor mate, 2L undercoat and 2L of topcoat will cost you $100 at the right place, then its just thinners and wet and dry after that. I've got a industrial fume extractor in the shed too :)

Lol computer term sorry bud mixing cars and computers - Plug and Play

Yeah all 4AGE Looms are an easy to mod for RWD, can guide you or help or mod a loom to make it as PNP as possible.
-
A 4AGE is basically a drop in swap, that's why its so common. I went down the 3S path because I wanted more torque, it's a nightmare though, an SR20 is a much more sensible way to go if you want a 2L, if you've got the cash a beams 3SGE wouldn't go astray either, but I'm hoping to reap the rewards of the work of the gen2 3S in weight balance, and Toyota purism ! - Defintely quicker than 14 seconds ... but I know what you mean, they're not the fastest thing in the world in standard form. A 20V or a 4AGZE will definitely do better than a bigport or 100kw motor, but it depends what your looking for I guess. I don't think there's any right answer to this one, 4AGE is the best budget engine swap for a KE70, triple the power of your 4K, but if you've got a welder, or are willing to learn how to use one you can make anything happen.

Sounds like a bit much, It could be stuffed bushes allowing a bit of end float letting the dizzy shaft move in and out on the crosscut teeth of the cam. Does the dizzy have much end float?

Well yeah, RC is a bit dead atm post wise, but I believe there is still a lot of dedicated readers like myself. I think as a forum gets on in age most of the relevant topics have been covered. What I've noticed of late when new members jump on and ask silly questions that could have been searched for they get shunned into submission, which won't lead to any new long term members. It is easy to use the search button, but the effort that many go to flaming people is probably longer than the effort to copy and paste a link to help a new member, especially when you've read every 2nd post in the last 5 years and know what to search for. RC used to be a thriving community, and a community is only as strong as those who guide the way for the up and comers. Maybe us older farts who've been on here a while need to take the time for a quick G'day in the threads of new members to try and foster enough positive attitude to make people feel like reciprocating in the RC community.

Hey shayden, It won't be a fast car when compared to a V8 or a turbo 4 /6 cylinder, but a 4AGE in a corolla will eat 99% of the 6 cylinder owners for lunch. Many people forget power weight. To me driving a corolla isn't about being the fastest in a straight line, it's about the agility in the corners.
-
Hey dude, hows things - Hate when oldies mess your stuff up! How much you get charged for that swimming pool ?
-
We all know that golf balls go faster through air, I've always wondered if a corolla covered in dimples would slice the air better, dunno about the astro turf though !

Get a boob job D cups pass every time :lolcry:
-
When I had a flat battery one day I asked a workmate for a push start - he promptly asked me if I wanted a can of petrol and a lighter instead :lolcry: I told him where to go and push started the old girl on my own.

My driving test was hilarious, got it first go, but on a 2 lane road about 10m from an intersection in the left hand lane I had a car cut me off from the right lane to take the left hand turn. Massive brake lockup to miss the asshole. Funnily enough he said he was going to fail me before we nearly had an accident, but he was like, your definitely going to be a safe driver on the road if you missed that. I've had friends take a few goes to get there license, some of them are great drivers too. Might be worth booking in at a small town for the test if traffic stresses you out.

Australia's most famous KE70 I think :lolcry:
-
Lol 100db at idle, thats mental.

Yeah, most people forget that cut springs + short stroke shocks will not upset your handling at all, and after 2 hours of paddock bashing with snapped shocks on Beigey without loosing a spring I really think it's a bit of a joke.
