  1. 45% is a huge gain, sounds a little unrealistic. There's no way you'd gain that much on a 4A with an aftermarket. ie 100kw to 145kw, that's comparable to what a beams 3S will produce. It might be worth getting a compression tester to work out the wear of your motor before spending up on an aftermarket. FYI more than 20psi difference between cylinders will mean you need a freshen up or a rebuild. With a freshly built bigport 4A in an offroad racer (suzuki sierra) running a standard ecu, my housmate can pull away from import 20V's on autronic's, and even 4AGZE's.
  2. wow those prices aren't that bad on the altenater gear, I'm pretty sure I've seen people on AE86DC fork out over $250 for a RWD mount, nice find.
  3. When you say aftermarket chip, do you mean a remapped standard ECU? Or are you looking for a standalone aftermarket? The factory 4A ecu's run great in my experience, unless you're going turbo / quad throttles/ or monster cams. I recently bought an adaptronic ecu for my 20V project, and I'm amazed by what the little beast can do. What you got planned for you motor? Adaptronic home
  4. No worries, btw you can get away without the RWD altenator braket and water housings pretty easily, I think they sit in a similar spot to the 20V's. I was quoted $120 for a genuine rear housing and water pump from Anthony Kellam if you're not willing to run an external thermostat, may be worth looking into as it's half what toyota wants.
  5. Hey Trev, loom looks great, if you want to borrow a RWD bigport manifold to get this going I may be able to help, I think the one I gave to a mate is gonna sit around for atleast another 6 months yet, which would give you heaps of time to score a cheap one.
  6. Old specs were here, new stuff at the end :y:
  7. Sounds very interesting, lets hope my AE71 is ready when this happens.
  8. Fastest car I've been in was a 350 bhp VK 308, which has since been rebuilt with a 350 stroker. Fastest I've driven was a a 300 bhp VL turbo. I never got a chance of a ride in the 5L Walkingshaw replica VL with twin turbo's that another mate had, put down 550RWKW :kiwi: Someone stole the complete turbo setup while the motor was being rebuilt !!!
  9. Wow, this seems to be really coming along nicely. Can't wait to see that engine bay with those red quad's gleaming. Looks like you nearly bought the whole T3 product line, I'm jealous :kiwi: Keep up the great work :)
  10. A 20V GZE is a great idea, but you're gonna need a custom intake as the stock one will blow its seals. The SC14 is gonna be hard to squeeze under the quads too, as there won't be as much room in a FWD setup. You won't find a standard ecu that will get a decent tune, an adaptronic ecu will let you do your vaccum trigger on the S/C. Download the ECU interigator off if you want to see the features- adaptronic, you'll be amazed at what it can do. 8 Aux in and 8 aux out and a 30x30 tuning map :kiwi: I don't know anyone with a 4AGZE that converted to turbo that wasn't over the moon with the performance gains. Eating clutch's for dinner is the easiest way to get some bite off the line with such a setup. Before you think about such an expensive project you need to ask yourself, am I in fantasy land where I wish I could make my 4A pull like a V8 off the line? I know I am, but I know it's a pipe dream, that's why I'm gonna play with an atmo 20V for a while. Have you ever been in an overpowered FWD car ... coffin ? Throttle based lane changing aint cool.
  11. What's the deal with running a 100kw ecu on your bigport? This has to be limiting alot of bottom end torque that the TVIS is meant to provide. Have you overcome this or do you run the TVIS constantly open?
  12. don't VL turbo's run a Jatco 4spd auto? Trimatics can be kitted to take a huge amount of power, you just need $$$.
  13. I get that bolt by linking 2 spanners together, works a treat (don't use cheap spanners - they break). If you're just doing the clutch I'd just be putting it on stands and removing the gearbox.
  14. corona and ae86 arms share the same stud spacing for the strut as I have AE86 coilovers on corona steering arms on my coupe. Not sure about the length, but I'm gonna measure a pair of RA40 P/S arms for length next time I'm at the wreckers with this new info .... mmmm lock :)
  15. T series are a 4link rear, KE55's are a leaf. You're gonna need custom mounts welded. I hope you don't have too wide wheels, the track on a T series is alot wider than the KE55.
  16. Des is on the money, but not just mineral oil you want to run it on non-viscosity modifed oil for a while, ie 20W not 20W50. Modern bearings don't have the run in time of old ones. Many people with purpose built race motors will start the motor on 20W, run say 5 mins, turn it off. Change the oil and let it get to operation temperature at ide. Drain the oil change the filter and thrash the living hell out of it :jamie: Not recommended for your daily though. Hills in high gears are the ticket, you want to have the engine running in very high vaccum to suck the rings into the bore and bed them in.
  17. If you want a bigger box in the thing, a K-W5X (Out of a 99 7K townace) housing is one of the easiest to source. sub $100 mark when I got one. Good luck damaging a W55 with a stock 4K :jamie: Best part is you get a decent overdrive.
  18. No race cars are auto, only drag cars are fitted with such terrible devices, and that just aint racing if you ask me. Fully sik bonnet scoop mate, does it go hectic fast ?
  19. nice work there mate, let's hope the chain stays on :jamie:
  20. I've got a complete AE71/KE70 AC setup if anyone wants one. pm Me
  21. My housemate has a heavily modified bigport in a sierra, what can I say it makes a lethal combination. His diffs last a few years. The transfer case will break first.
  22. I build boot poppers with an extra rear door central locking kit solenoid wired via a switch. Only have to run 1 wire too :hmm:
  23. Glad to hear the exhaust fitted to some degree, if you can't be bothered welding on brackets you can always use exhaust clamps with a chunk of metal to clip the rubber hanger on.
  24. You need to search a little harder there is bounty of information in the forum about brake upgrades and diff upgrades. Anything from an AE86 will bolt in.
  25. Picked up the Spirit on the weekend. bit rough around the edges, so it'll be a quick grind and bog over for rwc. I might keep an eye out for a cheap auto with a good body. I wonder if I should store pinky and fix it up really do like the old car and I've alway's wanted to play with another worked K motor.
