I think you read the same forum I did, sounds very familiar, but I later found they were steel. I wouldn't be surprised if there's someone with a beams rally car casting aspersions to stop people playing with the beams motors to keep there advantage on the track. All other toyota Blocks I've seen that are alloy have been bare metal. You can see some red rust on the lower stud hole under the starter too. The block strength can be overcome with a late gen 5S block that has the oil galleries further away from the bores because of the 1mm larger bore and the back of the block is thicker (was a great pic on toymods recently) but of course the blacktop head has a different oil gallery setup for the dual VVTI. I've heard redtop head on a 5S block is the easy way to go, good for 800+ HP and works without having oil galleried tigged and redrilled like on the blacktop head. There's a company in the UK that does a wet sleeve conversion that makes any 3S block just about indestructible too. I will admit the SR20 girdle system is very superior to the bearing caps on the S toyota motors, but most alloy blocks self destruct without a girdle. I have wondered if the block cracking issue could be solved by a CNC girdle. 2JZ reliability goes from 1000 to 2000hp with a girdle, so I wonder...

ottomoto is the best price for a weld on steel coilover kit. $300 with springs and hats etc...

I'm fairly sure the KE70 centers are the same, that is if it's a salsbury diff.

I've never tried what your saying, but if I designed the regulator I'd only use big enough diodes to rectify the AC voltage as the rated current that the alt delivers to reduce the cost. What engine is this on? Probably worth getting a later model alt with an internal reg that'll fit. Get new crimp pins for the reg plug and you can tap into the needed feeds at the reg.
-
Yeah, KE70's are easy to get, but finding a good one is still a needle in a haystack, like most 80's or younger cars.
-
The problem is of course that there is really very few "exciting" small toyota's out there. How do you make them exciting - put a bigger motor in there! So cinky you'd prefer to see my KE70 with a 4K and webbers than a ITB 3SGE with more than double double the HP? I better put my conversion in the bin :lolcry: My next KE will definitely be an all alloy V6 of some description, will try and keep the toyota badge on the motor though, will probably have the firewall recessed half a foot and be track only. Now if you want to register it may be worth joining a licensed car club, then register your vehicle as a hot rod. Then you can do just about anything under the sun, but can only drive to track days, mechanics for work, organised events etc.

Well if he said "Close to a 5 second car" he owes you a $50. He should have said a 4 second car if he wanted one in the 4's. He is right though, all the top fuelers are supercharged, but this is mainly because of the corrosive nature of nitro-methane exhaust gas makes nitric acid that would probably corrode the turbo to liquid at 2000 degrees in a couple of passes. A turbo can supply enough air to match a supercharger, but you're limited in fuel choice, and methanol just needs more oxygen to burn, so you don't make as much power. What your step dad has asked you to do is find a top alcohol car that'll outrun a top fueler. Maybe comparing supercharged and turbocharged top alcohol car's is a much fairer way to judge the 2 types of forced induction.

No one will really be able to guess a price for you. Every mechanic will charge you a different price for the same work. Time to start calling around I reakon.

Not really frowned upon, SR20 is RWD out of the box, it's a logical choice if you're not a crack pot toyota nazi like me :P Hmm, beams block weak? I was under the impression 400hp was doable on a stock bottom end and a thick Head gasket. I remember years ago finding some misleading crap saying the beams was alloy and sleeved, but it's cast iron.

Or hidden in a muffler housing ;)

Haha reminds me of a cruise 2 years back, we had 10 KE10's to KE70's lined up for a bit of a photoshoot - only to have someone drive by yelling out the window "Go the Datto's".
-
Have a real soft spot for the 2 door coupes, love what you've done to the car mate. I think calling it the Datrolla would have been more period specific though :P
-
That's amazing for a K motor, makes me wonder what TRDKE70's old 5K in a KE10 chassis would have run. You need a mullet too daggers or you'll be stuck in the 14's :P
-
Hell yeah, will be great with a 5spd, do you need to change the ecu too?
-
OOps, 2 many SR rolla threads :P Posted in the wrong one! Can't wait to see the finished paint job Matt.

E10 needs the timing advance taken up a bit too. If the jets are a bit clogged it won't be very happy about it. A really quick easy was to clean your jets is to take the air filter off and put 1 hand on the throttle. Rev the motor up to about 4 grand and then seal the top of the carby with your other hand, taking your hand on and off quickly while feeding the throttle to keep the car running. Now if the motor won't start after this it's because the car is now overfueling, you'll have to screw the idle needle in until it starts, and then get the idle screw right. The extreme vacuum in the motor sucks all the crap out of the jets. I've seen motors that would not start or even idle run like a dream after doing this trick :)

Your right that it'll spool slower. But they do spool on exhaust gas flow. It's just that coming straight out of the ports the exhaust gas is hotter, under extreme pressure and the air has more velocity. It is pressure differential that causes the exhaust gas to want to escape out the restrictive turbo that makes it spool. Down the back of the car the air is cooler and moving slower, so there is less pressure difference to make use of.

Better start stocking up on beer then :P -
200hp atw NA 5K, that's 200kw at the crank Sorry dude, he's pulling your chain. I will never believe a 2V K motor can do that, full spec race formula atlantic 4age's make 180KW at the crank. Madrolla's 12 sec 20psi 5K KE10 didn't even have 200kw.

When you're 30 getting drunk on a school night is a pent-weekly occasion :P -
Hey, you're fitting a cat when you legally don't need to - that make you a greeny dude :P I'm gonna get a 100cpi ebay special cat for my rig, were legal up to a year or 2 ago, but now they can't be bought from exhaust shops and fitted from what I've heard. All legal if you car "already had one though" ;)

There's electric oil pumps for turbo's you can get for these kind of setups, laggy as hell if you go with it, but once it's on song it'll def make good power, corning wise it'll be a little trickier to handle than a front mount turbo setup though. The pipe is nearly long enough that you def won't need an intercooler for anything under 10psi. Cops normally only harass you if you do silly things on the street, Time to start doing motokanha's or track days to release your frustration by the sounds...
-
Do a search for madrolla's setup, fairly sure he put 20psi on a stock bottom end. If you run a 4K head on the 5K and drop the compression it's all about a good quality tune that doesn't detonate and rattle your pistons to bits.

MMM Audi's are not the run of the middle eurotrash. How many K's on the old girl? The drive train still nice and solid? Don't have any experience with these car's but have heard good things.

Flood water though, so I bet it'll have alot of sediment in the motor. Probably worth pulling it down and chemicially cleaning the crap out of it.
