  1. Love your work mate, looking good. Will the ex-gate be plumbed in for rego or will it no longer be a street car?
  2. Thanks for the kind words mate! it can be a hard slog at times hey!? I'm hoping to keep the progress rate up, as mentioned above cash is now the restriction. I'm aiming to do a few things differently from here on, as I'd like the car to be a bit unique and not another white Corolla with whitewalls etc. Good luck with your build!
  3. Sorry for the late reply! Yeah I'm mates with Brad and Mick as well, they are great guys! We will be having a 'car-b-que' tonight with them all lol When cash and shed space permits I will be building an LX hatch with a 355 stroker on either LPG or E85, bit of a 'closet Torana browser' as you are a closet Corolla browser lol! In all seriousness I get into all cars that are old and cool :) Recently I changed the rear wheel bearings and took it up to a DECA day outside Shepp, awesome fun! Needs an alignment and tyres pretty badly, struggled for front end grip. Cash is a little short now I'm back to uni but it will be lowered and wheel aligned soon in prep for a Morwell hillclimb day. Few vids for those interested;
  4. Hey guys, At long last I have finished the stereo install. Pretty happy with the result and it is now a much more pleasurable Daily! I have also been doing a fair bit of research on internals for my 5k and have come to the conclusion that I won't be needing forgies or 4AGE internals. My wallet is very happy with this decision! Progress will halt for a bit whilst I get some more funds together :/ Uni life! I tucked the headunit up under the passenger side of the dash, I was wanting to put it in the centre but clearance to the heater was to little and I didn't want the heat pumping directly onto it. I will put my gauges in this location instead. One of the main reasons I opted for this headunit was the large choice of backlight colours. I love the fact I can choose a less bling colour that blends in with the standard dash illumination. Bluetooth mic and tweeter; 4'' boxed out and sealed (now tucked up under the dash);
  5. Yeah that's one of a few reasons I'm keen on the RX-7 calipers, but I still need to work out the logistics of mounting them up on XT130 struts with MA61 rotors. I have EBC reds on my MR2 and they are really good thus far! :)
  6. Looking good Paul! Are there many aftermarket sport pads available for MX62 calipers? What is the distance between mounting bolts on the caliper? I'm looking at running a similar setup but am worried about my pad options. The other thing I am pursuing is 4-pot RX-7 calipers with the above rotors and struts... Cheers, Dougal
  7. Very interested in more details/pics, a 2JZ in an early Holden would be super cool.
  8. Awesome read! Love the backyarder/DIY approach, clever mods. :y: Cheers
  9. Cool thanks Luke! Put me down as a maybe then lol in the KE..
  10. Thanks Stuart, yeah I remember reading about the fire you had! I'll be fitting an extinguisher to the car shortly, don't want any engine fires.. Thanks Mik, I won't be coming down this Sunday as I think you have to pre-register to get in due to it being at the RAAF base. I hadn't decided if I was going when they asked for the list.
  11. Hey guys, Since the last update I have given the car a whole car a cut/polish/wax for Hanging Rock and also painted and fitted the venetian. Now I have started pulling down the 5k so I can get it all machined and build it up as a warm N/A motor to start with. Currently I'm looking into the possibility of fitting forged 'GZE pistons to the 5k so I have the strength down the track when this thing gets boost. There's no point doing the job twice! I also need to finish the stereo install, and buy some KYB shocks and Corona struts/brakes. I have mainly been working on the MR2 recently though, as the alternator carked it and also I have a motokahna day at DECA this Saturday. Now I'm back at uni I have plenty of time on my hands but the cash supply is starting to dry up! lol Few blocked water jackets but otherwise not too bad; Bit of wear in this bearing; Cam looks pretty clean, no pitting;
  12. Awesome, such a monumental task! Well done. :y:
  13. Ok cheers. I also like the lateral support you have going with the panhard and trailing arms, interested to hear how it handles.
  14. Love the rear end mate! What does the leaf pack consist of? Re-set Corolla ones with some added?
  15. They look great, would be ideal to put on a centrecap...
  16. Thanks for the info and kind words! This car would be more than worthy of COTY, I love the way you have adapted parts from other Toyotas to fit rather than just buying off the shelf items. You don't need a big budget to complete quality mods! Cheers
  17. Top work guys, love it! I can't believe you got defected in this, and I thought Melbourne cops were bad... Sorry I missed it, but what brakes are you running up front? Cheers, Dougal
  18. Awesome build mate, very thorough job. :y: Keep the pics coming!
  19. Hahaha yep, good mates from High School. Not many red-heads rolling round Porsche's with a sticker stating "My other car is a Datsun"!
  20. Hey guys, Here are a few more recent pics of the car and the 1/4 repair, the car is also now registered :) Unfortunately I have a charging issue so the car was flatbed-towed yesterday from the Geelong Rd :/ There are a few more things to iron out including a good service, and then I will drive the car as is for a while whilst the KE20 gets some more love. Once I have sorted a motor and suspension in the rolla I will give this some nice fitment/coilovers and also tidy up the paint on the front and rear bars. I really can't wait to sort the charging issue as this car is a blast to drive! I went for a 'topless' hills run last week with a mate's MX-5 and lightly modded '75 911 Targa, and can safely say the MR is a quick as the Porsche! :)
  21. Hey guys, Pics of repairs and new exhaust; Now I have finished my work experience year at Holden I have a months break before uni! :D Time to sort some minor brake and suspension upgrades and build this 5k! I will also be painting the engine bay and venetian and working on the MR2.
  22. So guys, I'm pretty happy! Got the car back Friday and they did a pretty good job, my bar isn't done yet so kindly Dave (TE278U) lent me one of his for the weekend. Cheers mate! A group of us then went for a driving weekend up to Myrtleford and had a blast! I surprised a few of them with what you can do with a stock 3k too! :P Seriously keen to get my 5k happening soon and also some more brake/suspension mods, I chewed the outers of the front tyres a bit due to lack of camber!
  23. Good work mate, keen to see the rest of it take shape! What brake/diff combo do you have planned in future?
  24. Hey guys, Here is my latest purchase! A 1987 Toyota AW11 SC with an SC14 fitted. I picked it up for the bargain price of $1,500 because the previous owner was desperate to get rid of it for some more shed space! I had been looking for another fun car to use for hills work and weekend motorsport for sometime. The idea was to get something that was almost ready to go and required very little work, as I still want to keep modding the KE20. Like every other young drift-boy in Melbourne I had been looking at R32s and 180s, but it became increasingly hard to find one that had not been thrashed or was a little dodgy! Also both of these cars were really not me.. After riding in an AW11 with and over-driven SC12 up at DECA, and driving a mates N/A one I was sold on the idea of an MR2. I browsed a little further and came across a few MR2's but none that were quite right for me. When this one came up it wasn't really turn key as I'd planned, but who could say no at the price! The good; Factory SC with targa roof Adjustable shocks SC14 The bad A little rust in the rear guard Slipping clutch Worn brake rotors and flogged pads Dirty as all hell! -I think he must have sat doing doughies in a puddle or something, it was amazing the amount of crap we found under the car! So far i have fitted a new Exedy HD Organic clutch, EBC red stuff pads all round, new rear rotors, repaired the rust, wet-vacced the carpet/seats, pressure washed/de-greased underneath. I still need to go for a RWC and get the car rego'd again and then I can enjoy it/do some motorsport. In time I will upgrade a few things on the motor to squeeze some more power out, and also fit coilovers/wheels. The current wheels are a nice style but are a horrible offset! 15x6.5 +47! :down: I am thinking I will go for 15x8 +25 with some decent quality 195/50/15s. That should really improve the image of the car and take away from the body imperfections. The other part of the story is I couldn't bring home another un-rego'd car or Mum and Dad would crack the shits! So I managed to negotiate storing the MR2 at a friend of a friends place untill it is rego'd. He also has an AW11 with an SC14! The agreement was that i could store the car at his place if I helped part out another AW11 SC he had in the front yard. This has also meant I could salvage a few parts from that shell! Everything really has fallen into place with this car :) When I brought it back to my mates place and gave it a wash; All dirty during the rust repair process; Adjustable shock; Someone got this hot.... Note the powdered friction material on the floor! Mmmmmmmm fresh; Flare for safety, such a cool Japanese feature! Etch primed; My first attempt at 2 pack; The stablemate; A happy couple...
  25. Hey guys, I'd just like to say thanks to anyone who voted for my car in COTY. it is really humbling to be put alongside some of the previous winners that are of such a high standard. Seriously stoked! :) I hope to improve the car further over the coming year and do a few more things to make the car stand out/a little more unique. Cheers, Dougal
