  1. Been plugging away at the motor again, but it's gonna be slow progress for a while now that I'm back at uni after the break. Yesterday I dummy assembled crank/rod/piston to measure the deck height in each bore, The piston was about 0.007" from the top of the bore in #1 and a little closer in #2 and #3. #4 was between 0.006-0.008". I'm gonna drop off #2 and #3 on Monday for a very light skim, just so they are all even. Once they come back there will be a bit more stuffing round with dummy assemblies, just to check there is plenty of clearance to the valves and not a stupidly high comp ratio. I'm a bit worried about the comp at the moment! The head worked out at around 19cc per chamber, still need to check the pistons and calculate what comp we get with the overbore etc. Today we cut and shut the sump giving it about an inch more depth, this should give me another 750ml-1L extra capacity. I will also modify the oil pickup to account for this extra depth and reduce the chance of oil surge. A few baffles will be added whilst we are at it, but the extra depth rather than adding width should mean there isn't to much slosh across car. Mum's cousin has been giving me a few pointers through this process, and it has been great picking up a few old tricks from him.
  2. Ahhh forgot the fact it had no rego! Soon! Classic Japan?
  3. Any updates mate? I'm going through the same issue with compression on the 5k at the moment, as I have also bought oversize pistons with a very shallow dish.
  4. Good news Adam! Can you push for CC&D on Sunday?
  5. Any reason for the auto? What diff/brakes do you plan on running? Keen to see this evolve.
  6. Cheers guys, Philbey they wheels were a bit over $600USD + $230USD shipping, worked out as a smidge over $900AUD with the exchange rate where it was. I tried buying locally first but the local shops were either unhelpful or wanted me to order 20 sets! lol Seems to be some decent choice on eBay USA at the moment.. Trev, I'd be keen on a few interior trims and also possibly front/rear bars depending on condition/shipping. Can you PM me some photos/details of what is left? Thanks
  7. Turns out what I had thought was a CV issue was just the horrible tyres that were out of round causing vibrations! At long last my car has some decent fitment! After a bit of measuring and a trial fit of another mates wheels I came to the conclusion that 15x8+25 would be an ideal size for my car. Once my tax return came through I purchased a set of gold Enkei 92's from eBay USA; After some consideration I opted for a set of Yokohama AD08r's in 205/50/15. A mate also bought a set for his SR20DET 1600 at the same time so we got a good deal. By all accounts they are the best street tyre short of a semi slick, and after spending most of the weekend in the twisties I tend to agree! This wheel/tyre change and an alignment last week has completely changed the car! From memory I now have 6-7 degrees caster, 0 front toe, -1.5 degrees front camber, 3mm total rear toe in, and a bit over -1 degree rear camber. When I went in for the alignment we found the RHR toe link was bent and that wheel alone had 7.5mm toe out! I have also purchased a whiteline rear bar and will be mounting that up soon. Loving driving this car now! :D Here are some happy snaps from some of the ks I did with my mate on the weekend;
  8. Looks spot on, very nice job on the bay! Interested to hear how you go on the dyno.
  9. Hey guys, Picked up my cam yesterday and the specs are as follows; Should come in pretty strong at about 3,000rpm and peak at 6,500, can't wait! :D Gonna get some more lows happening shortly and some camber up front, gotta buy a manifold and start porting too.. I also have a rear sway bar on the way, B-rad and myself have just ordered them through Signature Swaybars.
  10. Thanks for the kind words mate, I'm really humbled! Seriously think about giving it a crack, before I did this build I had no experience with any of this stuff either! As for funds I'm still at uni and also on casual wages, it's all possible if you take your time and do what you can without paying others. I still have a lot planned for this car to try and give it a bit of it's own character and lose the stigma of 'just another white KE20'. Buying my MR2 has slowed things a bit as now I have two money pits! lol Cheers, Doogs
  11. Hey guys, I have been a bit slack with updates. I have changed the look of the front end of the car by fitting these and wiring them with a few fuses/relays to suit. These goodies have also arrived; Cheers for the shocks Adam. The new engine mounts are from Summit in the US, it is amazing the amount of stuff there is on there for old Corollas! Well worth a browse. I have chosen a solid cam profile and that should be finished shortly, then I need to work on the head and induction side of things before screwing it all together. The cam should come on pretty strong at about 3,000 rpm and then drop off at about 6,500, hopefully about right for my application.
  12. Hey mate, I'm also looking into a set of these for the front of my KE20. The best prices I have found are either on this site; http://www.jcwhitney.com/gr-2-strut-inserts/p2017685.jcwx?skuId=1183024&filterid=d2181y1985g7j1 Or Summit; http://www.summitracing.com/search/department/chassis-suspension/part-type/shocks-and-struts/make/toyota/model/mr2/year/1985 Cheers
  13. I sure hope so! Cool powerplant, everyone converts GZEs to 'TE's these days...
  14. Couldn't agree more! Ahh well the KE20 will be out rain or shine, it's more waterproof than the newer MR2! Who thought a targa roof was a good idea?! :P
  15. Bugger that's bad news! I was enjoying following this thread..

Cool idea, love that this will be manual drag car too! I had just assumed it would be a built auto like so many others, this car is certainly gonna cause a stir. :y:
  17. After a bit of stuffing round we managed to track down some other rings to suit the +0.040'' bore. They even look like they have been on the shelf for a while lol as the paper in the box was starting to yellow etc! I'm also looking at getting an MSD 6AL2 Programmable ignition system, not only will this perform well with the new motor but should provide adjustable ignition retarding when I set the motor up for boost. Bit of a pricey bit of gear but at least it will last for the long term.

    Great progress, looking very clean!
  19. Nice daily, hope you do get carried away with mods though! :P I never knew these had IRS, cool as.
  20. Hey Stuart, I will most likely be down to coffee and donuts this week, last exam Saturday so I will be pretty keen to get my head into cars again! Hope to catch up then.
  21. Thanks mate, I reckon there is something cool about sticking with the K series! After seeing what guys like Philbey and Kickn5k (Stu) have achieved with 5k's I reckon I should be able to make enough power for the car to be a bit of fun. I have a feeling I'm gonna like the induction noise when it's naturally aspirated though, so boost will be a fair way down the track! With my current plans the bottom end should suit both setups, so when the time comes I will just need to swap heads, induction setup and the cam. The rest of the motor should be able to stay together.
  22. The exciting stuff; New clutch, lightened flywheel and balanced the assembly to suit; Balanced and clearances closed up; Crack tested, linished, balanced; Gives you an idea on the reduction in dish (yet to cc for a value); Next week I'm gonna head down to Clive Cams to pick his brains and get a cam grind on the way. I also need to track down some molly rings to suit the +0.040'' pistons. I have been told that cast rings and boost are a bad idea..
  23. Cheers that's a great help! I had been thinking I would go for a cam somewhere around the [email protected]'' region but had no idea what rev range to expect etc. Thanks, Dougal
  24. Awesome news! Good job guys. Sorry if I missed it but what were the cam specs?
