  1. hey, i was wondering to help with my selection of cams and deciding on whether i will need the bottom end balanced to prevent damage at high revs , for my upcoming build, how high have you guys taken your k, balanced or unbalanced, before it all went wrong ? i want to get an idea on how strong the bottom end of these little motors are, i have heard they will take a fair bit, but want to know a few peoples personal experiences, on how high you can safely take them, without sending pistons through the block, or the like so, what k are you running, with mods or not, and how high have you taken it ? is there a particular engine that has a bad rep for failing ? cheers guys
  2. i think i will stick to that k, maybe with oversize slugs (vicroads don't need to know) :lolcry: on the subject of those weights, do you know how much a k engine would weigh in comparison, to those t blocks ?
  3. i know a few guys who live up that way, they say it can especially bad round the station, seems like you have to be on your guard, and don't wanna be out alone :lolcry:
  4. Cheers man, my mate with an lx torrie said a similar thing, he rekons they are one of the best going round, and suposedly clive left cause he thought wade's were going to the pack, so i will certainly check them out i am i right in saying they don't have a web address (clives) ?
  5. classic lol ! (sad thing is thats pretty much true)............... oh well, thank god car companies have learnt to use alloy now ! (we had to come from somewhere though) Thanks for the help redwarf, i will now do some research on the rest of the k series, this also seems like a much easier option seeing it will be pretty much a straight swap. This said though, how much better is a 4k or later, would they have more space for oversize slugs, or is it just the advance in most of the technology, and better valvegear, that would make them the wiser choice ? cheers
  6. Hey, I am looking at increasing capacity in a ke20, i originally thought that oversize slugs would be the go, but have heard rumours that the celica t engines, or the corona r engines will bolt in. Is this so, and would these conversions need an engineers cert ? I have been searching round, and so far havent found much info on these engines/conversions. I am also interested in a list of conversions that are legal with vicroads (without a cert), or lists of engines that came in each model (of corona/celica) and their capacity/specs, does anyone know where i can find this ? or Does anyone know how far oversize you can go safely in a 3k block, as an alternative ? thanks for your help
  7. thanks guys, i will look into those more, if i do end up getting a grind done locally, chances are i that i will be using tighe cams specs anyway, due to the lack of grinds otherwise available
  8. Hey, i am looking into where i can get my cam ground , and have found a few melboure joints (Crow Cams, Clive Cams, Crane Cams, Wade Cams etc) but i was wondering if anyone has a specific shop they recomend, or have had a good job done with at this stage i accept it will not be an off-the-shelf job, as not many places regularly do grinds for the 3k, but this is ok as i have a fair idea of what i want so let me know what experience you guys have had with different joints (good and bad) cheers
  9. After reading sim's thread about his problems with fixing his horn, it started me thinking about what the laws actually say about having an air horn fitted to your car some of my mates have them, and i am fairly sure they would'nt be legal, but does anyone know what the law actually says, would it just be the noise laws that it would breach? cheers
  10. very tidy aqua ke55 :P, whitehorse area, with p plates, often see it on whitehorse rd, i wanna meet the owner! if u r on here, let us know
  11. Sorry mate, but i think it is broken again !
  12. looking for a wagon..........................look no further :) http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/priva...e|1&trecs=8 btw, sweet brochures
  13. too true mate, sometimes my mates ideas aren't the best. my cousin's boyfriend is a cop and he says that as long as it doesn't look too much like a weapon (eg. an axe) you'll be fine should the cops ask any questions, he suggested a maglite as well.
  14. Thats not good to hear, we occasionly get that stuff round box hill but not quite that bad, i like the maglite idea though, i think it might be a bit easyer to argue with the cops about that not being a weapon, compared to my friends idea (he will be keeping a spare axle next to his seat in case of a similar incident) maglite=much better idea
  15. Hey all, I'm Dougal, a 16yo from the eastern suburbs of melbourne. I don't have my rolla yet, but i will be buying a ke20 in the next few months (when i have the dough). I will be working up the 3k with hot cams, extractors, webers, harmonic balancing for the internals and maybe oversize pistons. It will basically be a cool first car for me, and hopefully i will learn a lot from the process, i will put up some pics when i get it. cyas
  16. cheers guys, thats still better than all i have found so far ! ;) fair point about the rego label redwarf, i have found that on some of my mates cars, those estimates look a fair bit off. but i think that kangaroosa's list is great, thanks a bunch guys
  17. hey all, i know that little rollas are light cars, and so can become pretty quick if you do up the engine i am interested in finding out approx power to weight ratios, so could people; post the weight of their ke, stock and modified, with some rough power figures ? if anyone knows factory weight as well that would be good, as from the research i have done, i found a fairly wide range (650-1000kgs, and i think this might be a bit out !) cheers
  18. sweet, sounds good to me i have similar plans, i gotta get mine first though! then it will be a mild engine job, and i think whitewalls would look cool ! :sob: my mate just got a set for his lx torrie, 150 bucks with rims !! i wanna find out where he got em !
  19. Nice dude, thats just what i want i have been saving since december last year, from my part time job at the local maccas, and so i should be able to by my ke20 sometime in july/august, what are you planning for yours?
  20. Hey all, I am a new member here on rollaclub, and found the forum whilst browsing google. Late last year i was doing some research about buying my first car (i am 16 and lokking to buy a ke20 in the next few months), and i stumbled across the FAQ done by super jamie. I would just like to tell him and anyone else involved in writing it, how good it is, and how useful it is for a young kid like myself wanting to find out about these cars. It is by far the best thing out there for info, and is full of useful advice. Thanks to it i now have a good idea on what kind of engine work i will be needing to do, to increase performance, on a budget. i would like to recomend it to any newbies out there, like myself, as it is awesome. So well done guys, and it looks like this forum will be of a great help as well. Cheers Doogs
