  1. I was otherwise going to buy a manifold to suit, as i think places like redline stock manifolds to suit. I was fairly sure that these manifolds would be up to it, but am not sure, anyone done it before/know how well it works? Thanks for the offer, but i already have one, Thanks anyway
  2. Hey all, I am thinking about adapting a 32/36 weber downdraught carb, to fit on a standard 4k manifold. Coupled with a 25/65 cam and a mild head port and polish job. I was wondering if the stock manifold will flow well enough with this carb added, does anyone know from personal experience? or does anyone know what sort of horsepower you can flow with a standard manifold (with the ends cleaned up and casting dags removed) ? I have heard about plenty of people using these carbs on their k motors, but do not know how they will go on the standard manifold, Thanks in advance
  3. thanks guys, i will ring around soon, to find out what is legal (even if i still don't follow the legal path) the 3k-b setup sound good, but i am now swinging towards a 32/36 downdraft, as could fit the stock snorkel setup and a ramflo on the top (with a bit of modification, and a few holes drilled in the bottom for less restricted flow) and i can also get a free one off a mate, whilst also would save another $250 by not having to buy a manifold
  4. who should/could i call to ask, that won't end me up in trouble (if i go round asking vicroads to many questions they might start looking out for hot lil rollas) i was thinking i would do the bit of work to the the 4k, then ring up vicroads one day to announce "my change of engine number" (again this is dodgy, but rules are made to be broken!)
  5. i am thinking of running a 4k with a mild cam, a dcoe 40 and engine balancing etc, maybe with the stock snorkel above the weber to try and cover it up, although i spose if i don't attract attention to myself the cops won't come calling (but if they looked at all they could easily see the weber) so i spose i will try not to draw attention to myself, and also go by the slogan "its only illegal if you get caught"
  6. thanks heaps, that helps a lot i will have to be very careful when i am modding the engine, to ensure i am not caught (this will have to be one hell of a sleeper)
  7. Hey, i have been looking around for details on what the new p laws will mean for me when i get them next year, and i am wondering how they will affect my ke20 i plan to mod, does anyone know the details with regard to these laws ? i have heard that for the green ps your car must be 100% stock, is this true? also does anyone know what the restrictions are on power to weight? (as i figure a warm 4k in a ke20 will be sitting fairly close) as far as i know the cops won't/can't dyno your car, is this true? cheers
  8. cool, i figured that 4th would be about 1:1, and 5th an overdrive, but was not sure. thats all good though, as the rev figures confirms that a cam with a range of 2000-7000rpm is going to be good for a street driven 4k, but i won't be thinking about changing boxes till later down the track, along with putting in an lsd, thanks for your help guys
  9. thanks philba, does anyone have similar figures to this, what about with a 4 speed ? cheers
  10. sweet as dude, that looks really tidy, well done love the flares, where did you get them ?
  11. Hey all, For selecting my cam i want to make sure that i will be sitting well within the rev range of my cam at highway cruising speed, so do any of you guys know, for your stock or modified k (preferably 4k, as i will have) What rpm are you sitting at when you are at 100kph, in top gear ? What is the stock diff ratio, or current ? (i can't find the stock one anywhere) What is the stock wheel diameter/yours ? Also, just out of interest, when does your engine start to valve bounce ? Cheers guys, your help is much appreciated
  12. any idea on a total price, with/without a group buy, as this looks like well worth the effort, good idea !
  13. are you choking at the rug or the DCOE 40 ? cause the rug was a joke, and from what i have heard, if you jet down the DCOE it will be ok on a warm 4k, (as said by snot 35, i also thought they were pretty versatile) (sorry dude, but i am young and know little, so am trying to learn as much as i can ! , so bear with me please, even if i do seem to know shit all ! )
  14. those weber sidedrafts are great carbs, brockies XU-1 was running triple webers, but only from 3 throats, one throat of each was blocked off they can flow a hell of a lot of fuel !
  15. ^^^^ yeah times 2, would be great to know !
  16. fair enough, i think i might stick to the 30/70 or 25/65 cam, 1 DCOE 40, extractors, balancing etc, and most importantly; whitewalls, venitians, and the old crocheted rug on the rear sill and seats to finish off the granny spec  (ok, maybe the rug is a bit overboard) should be not a bad sleeper though !
  17. fair enough, thats what i was worried about, having a cam that would be fun, but not a pig down low i think i am still heading for a bottom end or strong midrange cam, as i want it to be a bit of a sleeper, and not be a cop magnet (which i think a incredibly lumpy idle would) anyway, if i want a big cam like that, i should just build a race car ! (which i will when i can afford it) oh well, i will try and see, if it turns out to mild, a bigger cam won't be that far away ! cheers
  18. sweet, i am starting to think i will go for something a bit bigger than a 30-70 :) is yours a pig to drive around in traffic ?
  19. man thats cool !!!! :) that sounds sweet as, any idea of what rpm it was idling at ?
  20. yeah, fair enough you are spot on, if i do it, i might as well do it all properly, as it would just be a pain to have to fix it all up later ! :)
  21. thats awesome that they still will idle, with a big cam like that ! what does it usually idle at for a stock 4k ?, i spose seeing it is such a small engine it doesnt mind the high revs as much
  22. cool, thanks do you think that just balacing the flywheel would be enough then ? i am starting to get pretty excited now, after seeing how much fun you guys have had, but i think just to be safe, i will keep it below 8 grand cheers all
  23. gee that will be fun on the street :), that is huge, i think you might have a bit of trouble in traffic idling, or your everyday driving rev range it will sound cool, and will go like hell when you are up in the high revs, but from the small amount i know, that seems pretty big ! i am not sure what your increased lift will do for valve bouncing, but i know even a small increase in lift can really increase your flow
  24. thanks guys for all the feedback, it sounds like i could get away with not getting it all balanced, but for a few $ it is worth it, (just to be on the safe side) i also figure it may be useful if i vist a few hillclimbs or circuits, for when i am at high revs then one thing i have wondered for a while is, if you have a fairly lumpy cam, will lightening the flywheel make idling more difficult at low revs ? what have you found, and how much lighter is yours ?
  25. approx how much did it cost you to get it done through them (labour and jets) ? thanks
