  1. Sweet as, i think this will prove very useful for me as well. Top stuff man :'(
  2. Same as original answer before we started to get carried away. Google Rollaclub Faq Search Many users on the forum get sick of people asking "make my car fast'' or other similar questions, when they have obviosly done no research for themselves. You were lucky to even get replies (let alone the ones you did get) :'( Use the above links, those resources are very useful.
  3. This beasty also needs speedholes ! :'( The question is.................before or after the tape ?
  4. The reason why i was asking if a 5k head has space for bigger valves is because of a comment made in an article in the faq. In the ''how to build a tuff k motor'' thread 'superjamie' suggests that a 4k would benifit greatly from bigger valves. He then proceeds in saying that ''this is the big restriction with a 5k'' This comment put the doubt in my mind and so i decided it would be good to check.
  5. Sorry, my bad i just re-read your last post :y: When looking at pistons i was mainly hoping for flat-tops or maybe even domed. This engine will be naturally aspirated for a long time, so i will end up running around 10:1 compression. (although compression is still to be determined, depending on which cam i end up choosing) I am still unsure on whether i will end up changing to solid lifters, because i have been getting mixed mesages about them. Some people i have talked to say that the hydro lifters have a bad tendency to ''pump up'', while others say i won't be revving high enough for it to be a problem.
  6. Forgot to add; I went to repco and bursons to find out about pistons this morning. Bursons said that because national parts have now gone under they cannot get acl pistons. Instead they offered 40thou over, ''precision international'' pistons, for $250. Repco said that they could probably still get acl pistons direct from the supplier, at approx $320 for 50thou over slugs. The funny thing was that the guy at repco has just moved over from nz and he said he had a KE30 with a hot 4k, which was then replaced by a 5k he bought off a mate. It was good to talk to someone who actually knew what a k motor was ! :S Anyway, according to this guy, in nz they get the cheap jap imports and so you can ''easily'' pick up a 5k for $150. He suggested i go onto the nz site 'trademe' and buy one then ship it over. (not sure what this might cost though) He also suggested i put on a 3k bigport head, which i was interested to hear. I was not sure this was a good combo and what it will do for the compression. Anyone know? Also; Does anyone know the differnce in port and valve sizes between a 5k head and a 3k-b one ? And, is there space to put bigger valves in a 5k head ? Thanks again to all, and sorry about all the questions :y:
  7. How much work was needed to get the 4k crank into a 3k? Could i have a rough price for what all that cost you ? (i am still working out budgets and working out how much i can afford to do) Thanks
  8. Sounds good, (especially the price) :S What advantages do you get from that mix of 3/4/5k parts ?
  9. I think i will be running similar duration to your tighe 104 grind. Unfortunately most of the cam joints down here are not interested in doing profiles for a k motor and so i will need to give them specs from tighes to work from. But, from what i hear about the quality of tighes work, this is not really a bad thing :y:
  10. Well he certainly would not be short on power :S Hope hes not a p plater though, would love to see a cops reaction to any of the suggested jet engines on your car :y:
  11. What else have you guys done ? The more different combos the better :y: So, once again.............whats under your bonnet ?
  12. I am still decideding whether i will use aftermarket pistons or not. I will decide when i get the engine, and it will depend on the condition of the bores (and my cash at the time). Originally i was not going to, but i figure if i do the job, it may as well be done right. Still unsure :y:
  13. Sweet, that was approx what i thought i might be spending. (hopefully i can get springs cheaper than that though)
  14. Thanks man, that answers it for me :S By the way, your bay looks top shelf :P Do you know if there is any space for bigger valves in a 5k head ? Thanks
  15. Who knows much about flight and or aerospace ? We could get this car airbourne in no time :y:
  16. Sounds like a nice build :y: , If you don't mind me asking, what did all that cost ? I am especially interested in the costing of your head work. I have decided that this will be where i put most of my money into, because it is where i can get the most gains. I am looking at getting a port+polish job and hopefully bigger valves with seats to suit. I need to look into this a little more though, because I have heard that in a 5k head there is not space for this. This is why i am interested in the different combos people have, incase i need to run a worked 4k head on a 5k block. (or something similar) What combos do the rest of you have ? Cheers
  17. (refer to mythbusters for more info) :S
  18. Cheers guys, KE555k, sounds like a fun car you have got there ! :y: (especially with that cam) I have been told before that duralites are good pistons, do you know where they can be sourced from + a rough cost ? Thanks, Dougal
  19. Do some of your own research. Google rollaclub faq Also use the search function on the forum.
  20. Hey all, I am looking at building a warm 5k in the near future to go into a Ke15/17/20/25 (whichever i end up finding). I have as good as planned what i will be doing to it (heads, cam etc) but have decided to have a look at other options as well, and find out what others are doing/have done. I am interested to see what others are doing/have done in the way of blocks, what head + work, cam, bottom end mods etc. So; What k motor do you have under your bonnet, and with what (if any) mods ? What head are you using, (and what has been done to it) ? What other work has been done to the engine, and to what specs ? (cams, parts etc) Sorry about all the questions, but i figured it would be good to see what else is/has been done, and what combination of parts are being used. By the way, i have read the faq article on 'how to build a tuff k motor' a number of times, but figured it would be good to get an idea of how others have done it and a few more opinions. Thanks in advance, Dougal
  21. SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK MATE ! |blink| (you guys crack me up) ;)
  22. ^^ Good idea, i second that.
  23. As the saying goes.... its only illegal if you get caught |blink|
  24. Not sure about up your way, but down here i am told by a reliable source, (Pete Robinson for those who have heard of him) That if you have the right papers proving it is from the same engine series etc, that you can put one in a Ke20. So i assume it may be allowed in a 55, although your rules may be different. I say get it reg'd then drop it in afterwards (thats what i will be doing because of our stupid P laws) :)
